Man Utd thread
First topic message reminder :
There are a few Utd fans like myself on the board but like the LFC one set up, everyone are welcome to discuss Utd's results and news etc..
Playing Barca tomorrow night, only a pre-season game but would like to see Kagwa given a run out tomorrow night see what he's got against the best.

That's probably wrong. You know yourself if you don't play for a big team you don't get picked for the big tournaments *cough*Holt*cough*

So do I but I'm not in charge. We'd pay a stupid price for him but it would be worth it because he's pretty much the best LB in the PL.

And you would get a good 5-6 years out of him as well. He ain't that old, and he is a marked improvement on Evra, who last season was a weak link

Re: Man Utd thread
Buttner's arrival may just pressure Evra into cleaning up his act, performance wise... He's lost some of his pace and was nowhere near as effective last term but is still a great footballer. If he knows he has a decent player pushing to replace him, he may just have to work harder.
I'm quite happy with this Buttner deal, it adds depth in the defence and he's a young guy who will improve at the club. Just remember, nobody had heard of Vida when we signed him and look what happened. This club makes players most of the time and if we end up gaining a left back who will improve over time, then at 5 million euro's that's a snip in today's market!

I bet no one had heard of Modric either so I get that point. Perhaps it's what Liverpool should do with Reina: Buy a competent backup to give the first choice something to think about. Hopefully he'll turn out to be good as, let's face it, Evra has 2 years at best left.

Re: Man Utd thread
I'd be surprised if it's two... Full backs rely on pace essentially, and Evra's is beginning to dwindle big time, in my eyes. He's still a clever footballer though.

Re: Man Utd thread
If you guys have a competent scouting network, then I'd have faith in this kid to come through. Although, this Buttner never played a full international and was kept out of the Dutch first and U21 sideby Erik Pieters. It's well documented that Pieters wanted a move to the Premier League, so I'm unsure why he wouldn't have been your first choice.

kagawa starts then in behind Welbeck, Valencia at RB with Nani RW, Rooney will probably play in behind Welbeck rather than wing. Cleverly and Scholes cm. I think with Gibson and Neville cm for Everton, we can really get at them with Kagwa and Cleverly.

Said it all along van persie was a luxury an not a necessity, that money could have been spent on a holding midfielder. Fellaini embarrassed united tonight

Re: Man Utd thread
Well the difference between the the two side: Fellaini and Jageilka.
The two were phenomenal, as were all the Everton back 4. Stopped every cross, corner and pass that went their way. Truly was a great performance.
Utd plus points:
Kagawa:
Simply outstanding tonight, highlighted what a good player he is and what the potentially great player he could become. He was what we have been missing the last couple of years, someone to float around the final third and I don't think he missed a pass tonight. Showed some lovely touches and I feel he could be a real game changer for utd.
De Gea:
Always had faith in him, pulled off some great saves tonight and kept us in that first half.
Scholes + Cleverly:
Both had decent games, Cleverly making plenty of runs and Scholes staying deep and dictating play.
Utd Negatives:
Tactics:
Didn't adapt to Fellaini in the 2nd half, consistently allowing one of the midfield men or Carrick to pick him up. Should have been sorted half time and had Vidic picking him up and having someone filling the gap left behind by Vidic. Have no idea why Carrick was picking him up at the corner and to not have a man on the post is criminal.
Rooney:
Poor game tonight, looked sluggish and gave possession too many times. Hopefully his fitness picks up sooner rather than later.
Nani:
Wow, tonight he highlighted why he frustrates so many of us fans. Time after time, got himself into decent positions but time and time again, failed to beat the 1st man cross after cross, corner after corner. Going forward, we need to see Kagwa on that left hand side and when our defensive crisis lessens, Valencia starting on the right.

I think Jagielka's 1st tackle was a red card and a penalty. He goes right through Welbeck's foot. However, I didn't noticed until it was slowed down and a different angle so I can't blame the referee.

Everton were organised and have a huge talentless ganch.
United were awful to a man except for de gea - league over we have nothing to offer.
Kagawa the ext kleberson, 2 good passes a game does hugger all for 80 minutes. Rvp why bother if he gets 20 mins and no passes. Rooney same old crap when you need him he can't control a ball or make a 0 yard pass never mind make a match winning contribution.
Another season in the Stratford watching through my fingers

Re: Man Utd thread
bit too premature there Ent
I thought we were awful but I ain't writing off the league straight away. I anticipated a difficult game and Everton duly delivered. City will go there and struggle, as will Chelsea and Arsenal
Would hardly call Fellaini talentless either, the guy was superb tonight, first to everything, put himself about, got the goal and couldve got the opener much earlier when he hit the post. Sounds a bit like sour grapes to me

What talent does he have Aside from his physicality? 2/3 years ago vidic and rip would have laughed at him, as would stam, Bruce, pally, johnsen etc.

Well go and support somebody else then mate, we don't have any God given right to win every game and the fact that we are Man United means we're a scalp for whoever we play and a lot of teams will be out to beat us
Sometimes we'll play bad, more often than not we won't. Plus did you know when we do win We're not going to win by 8 goals every week, so I suppose that won't be good enough for you either
That physicality is exactly what we have missed since Keano left, Hargreaves was the next best thing we had since him but his knees didn't work. Lets be honest as well Fellaini is a better player than he was 2-3 years ago, thats what happens with footballers they get better the more they play....except for nani of course

In truth Everton are not the most talented bunch and it was a bit embarrassing yestereday that Utd didn't even get a draw but remember this is Manchester United always doing things the hard way.
Kagawa did look lively and it was great to see Vidic back but the rest were pretty average and Nani was below average. That said Utd are not in a relegation dog fight just yet.

I can't understand how Fellaini can be bracketed as a big man and nothing more. He is far better than that, but Everton used his physical attributes perfectly last night. He is a top player with his feet.

Re: Man Utd thread
We've always struggled with Fellaini so I'm not sure why it's a suprise to some that he played so well. This Everton side will be tough to beat this year, make no mistake, and the fact we played them with one recognised CB didn't help. Jaguelka (who I am a big fan of) had a monster last night and is the reason that we didn't manage a couple let alone one. I disagree with the sending off comment, thought it was an excellent tackle (we would have been up in arms if Vidic was sent off for such a tackle).
I thought Kagawa looked a little bit good and once given time to bed in to the pace of the league will be a special player for us.
RVP made a couple of lovely runs inbetween the centre backs but wasn't seen....again, that'll come with time.
De Gea showed his shot stopping qualities......and it would seem it's perfectly legal to elbow him in the face now that Utd have moaned about the lack of protection he gets :S
The two worries for me were Nani and Evra (nobodies mentioned Evra's performance). Being excellent for only 10% of the time isn't or shouldn't be good enough to get you in to any Man Utd side. Nani must be allowed to leave.
Evra seemed to lack the ability to be productive once he got forward......couple that with his league one defensive positioning and judgement and he is less than usless. The Italian league is calling mate.

I did think Evra was very toothless when he got forward. His crossing was abysmal. Ok, he's not known for his goal scoring prowess but usually gets a few assists a season with great crossing but even that has deserted him. I thought he was just about alright defensively except when Coleman came on he was burned for pace each time. Perhaps Buttner has not been signed to be a backup.

Well it is his physical attributes that are his main attributes. In fact that goes for the whole Everton team, a far cry from their championship winning days. Utd had hardly any defenders on the pitch which is why Fellaini was successful against Utd last night. In general it was a poor display by Utd but as usual they will bounc back.

Predictive text my friends predictive text.
We are awful despite having a great manager, some very good players and spending £50 million or so a summer.
When we have none of the above I won't complain about not winning, got to make hay while the sun shines.

Dutch defender Alexander Büttner has today completed his medical, agreed personal terms and signed for Manchester United on a five-year contract until 2017.
The 23-year-old, who was part of Holland's preliminary squad for this summer's European Championship, joins the Reds from Vitesse Arnhem, where he made 119 appearances over the past four years.
Sir Alex Ferguson said: "Alexander is one of the best young left backs in Europe and we're delighted to sign him. He's someone we've been watching for a while now. He gives us some really exciting options in that position."
Alexander Büttner said: "Joining Manchester United is one of the best days of my life. It's a team I have admired for many years now and I can't wait to join my teammates and play my part in helping the club be successful."
