First topic message reminder :
There are a few Utd fans like myself on the board but like the LFC one set up, everyone are welcome to discuss Utd's results and news etc..
Playing Barca tomorrow night, only a pre-season game but would like to see Kagwa given a run out tomorrow night see what he's got against the best.

Swings n roundabouts Ruby, swings and roundabouts. You twice won titles off the back of ref decisions against us so it's about time fortunes were reversed a little.
Still haven't shown you can actually beat us though. In 2 sets of 90 mins you haven't been ahead once whereas we've been 1-0 2-0 1-0 2-1 and 3-2 ahead. And it took two gifted pennos from rookies to pull two of those scores back.
This season at least, I think we've got your number. It's elsewhere we'll be dropping points I expect.

Re: Man Utd thread
Pity about the result last night, attacked pretty well considering it was a second 11 and disjointed team.
Injuries at the back have cost us again, 1 of Evans/smalling/jones being available would have made things a whole lot easier.
I think we finished with a 21 and 20 year old at centre back and a 18/19yo dm in front of them.
Really the turning point was taking Anderson off IMO.
As for the equaliser, it was a very soft award and it just goes to show you throwing the toys out works. Sad for Wooton but the mistake was th lack of organisation- there were 3 Chelsea players free in the box for some reason and we'd had fair warning when caught asleep from corners.

Didn't see the second penno, but the first was nailed on. Silly challenge from Buttner, Moses merk'd him.

Chelsea should have had 3 pens, a clear handball was not seen by the referee. Thankfully, the shove in the back in the 93rd minute was seen otherwise United would have had another referee to thank for their victory.

Yeah the clear handball that was chipped up on to the lads arm from two foot away :S Tell me something, how was that a deliberate handball???? Are you trying to say the lad deliberately went into that challenge with his arm in that position to slap the ball down????

Luiz had a similar handball not given at the weekend.
First one was a pen but Moses was on his way down early.
The 2nd pen was a hit soft, Ramirez really kicks wooton more than anything, like I said the mistake was the lack of organisation.

Your post comes across as a little biased
The second was naive and clumsy defending. If he hadn't given that then even I would be saying 'biased refs'.

Haven't seen the second penno so cannot comment, but that 'handball' was indeed exactly like Luiz's on the weekend. Neither given.

TopHat - there's very little between these sides. Last night however United looked far more composed on the ball all over the park compared to Chelsea. Chelsea seem to wait for some individual brilliance rather than creating much when they have posession. Moses was the difference last night but nothing really in it in both games

I love Man U fans like TopHat getting annoyed at the ref, when a pen wasn't awarded against Man U in the prem for something like 7 years!!! and last stat I saw - they had the lowest fouls to cards ratio in the prem, despite stats like this and the one saying that Howard Webb has given Man Utd 9 penalties in 32 games. He gave Arsenal, Chelsea & Liverpool combined 10 in 100 games. And also apparently out of the last 15 games between Man U and Arsenal, 9 Pens have been awarded - 6 to Man U...

I'M NOT GETTING ANNOYED.
The only thing I get annoyed about is all the baloney people, like you, spout about United ALWAYS getting ALL the decisions. Someone did a big piece of (independent) statistical anaylsis last season about dodgy decisions and United were no where near the top of the list.
I had this argument with a moronic Chelsea fan last season, had great fun producing stats refuting the United fallacy. One of my favourites, and ref a point you raise, was that Chelsea have actually gone longer without conceding a penalty at home than United ever have in the history of the EPL. Also, do you honestly think there is no link (other than bias) between the best teams winning the most and conceding the least penalties?? Any chance they might have the best defenders and trickiest attackers?? Take last night for example, two clear penalties, I haven’t disputed them in the slightest, but both given away by rookie players. Do you think a United first XI defender would have given them away?
Like all the City fans kicking off a couple of years back for United getting about 6 mins extra time (and winning in them) but then MOTD added it all up and only 7 seconds more extra time was played than should have.

TopHat - Really? Chelsea have gone more than 7 years without conceding a pen at home? Not sure I believe that but please let me know if it's true.
TopHat I'm not talking about vague links between better teams having conceding less, or isolated incidents, I'm talking about hard stats built up over many seasons, and quite a few (such as the Fergie time one which was in the Independent last season) which show that on average Man U get more extra time when behind than any other side, they get less booking per fouls than all other clubs (including other 'big' clubs - who you'd think the same would apply).
Also how did the Independent report decide which were 'dodgy' decisions and which weren't?
If you're saying that Man U should have won the title last season, then you'll probably admit (by the same vague yardstick) that Liverpool should have won the title instead of United in Benitez' penultimate season.

Well that was pathetic.
No one played well and fergie went with a midfield combo with no legs and the front 2 weren't clever enough to drop into midfield when needed.
Never got in behind Norwich or put them under real pressure and they were just able to form 2 banks for the majority of the game.

Ent watching the game live I just got the feeling that your midfield was very very toothless. We were able to play the ball about a fair bit, which is unusual for us, and Hoolahan had space aplenty a certain points. If ever I've seen a team in need of a midfield bruiser/tackler it was you yesterday

could not agree more, we just sat back and let you play. not a single player tried pressing the ball. no offense to norwich but if were letting the likes of norwich pass it around how the hell are we supposed to compete with some of the big guns like barca in europe. while we have this midfield theres no chance were getting anywhere in europe.
cleverly, has proabably been our best midfielder this season as he can pass it about but also puts a shift in and has legs, yet he drops him? its not like he was resting him for mid week that doesnt even count. carrick is just a very average player, how he's first name on the team sheet in midfield every week beats me, the sooner we get rid of the likes of carrick the better. look at when we have won in europe, 99 we had keane 2008 we had hargreaves (who was fantastic at breaking up play) other final flecther missed and was a huge loss, enabled barca to pass it round us all day with the likes of carrick

Just something missing in this Utd team. I think Scholes and Giggs as good as they are, I think there legs are catching up with them and physically they become overpowered now in matches. You need others to step up

Don't think we need a new CB, just a full fit complement of what we already have - Rio, Vidic, Evans, Smalling and Jones should be more than enough.
Our CM definitely missesd dynamism though. Would love a Yaya, or a fit-Diaby, or a Fellaini etc. That said Anderson has actually been looking quite good recently and good probably do with a run in the first team.

Apparently Manchester United are being linked with Sneijder again, despite the fact with Kagawa, Rooney, Cleverly and Anderson Sneijder is just the player who isn't needed.
I can't believe United aren't going for De Rossi who is apparently up for a move to the Premier League.

is still take sneidjer, he's a bit more physical than kagawa and can get stuck in abit more. kagawa couldnt tackle a big dinner.
anserson has looked good in a couple of games recently, but still abit dubious as he has done this in the past then gone gone to be awful the rest of the season. carrick is plain average, scholes looks like hes struggling and could well have been sent off in last couple of games. flechter still look likes he not quite back to his best so theres still improvements to be made there.
i agree a dm would be my first choice but with a weakness on the left aswell with both young and nani not good enough if sneijder were to come the likes of kagawa and rooney could fit in there, certainly at home when team are sitting and defending a attacking team could work well, would certainly give us options:
...................carrick/flecther.....................sneijder/clev
.....................................kagawa/rooney/sneijder
valencia..................................rvp..........................kagawa/rooney
the most attacking team would be sneijder in the deeper postion and obviously the likes of anderson, nani and young would get games depending on form and could switch to a 442 if hernadez is i there dropping the attacking mid. the problem at the minute is we keep playing 442 with players who arent suited, scholes and carrick in the middle its no wonder we cant get the ball back

Sneijders time has come and gone.
We just need some all round midfielder who can lead the team- we've got every other type of player.
Also I'd rather come second than employ a pure dm.

he's only 28. how many times have we heard that giggs was on his way out?
whats wrong with playing a DM, we did it in 2008 and won the champions league doing so. its become a vital postion in todays football, with many teams playing 4-3-3/4-5-1 its vital that teams are not overrun in midfield. all the best teams have one, makelele at real and chelsea, we had keane and hargreves and even de jong at city (you can see how much there missing that ugly player this season). you simply cant play a flat 4-4-2 these days with no defensive mids as even the poorer team will out work you, look at the norwich game

We didn't play a dm in 08, players who can tackle and run aren't dms, it is an insult to suggest keane was one.
De Jong didn't get a lot of game time last season- I think makelele is the only example of a top team having a pure dm.
We didn't lose to Norwich because we didn't have a clogger sitting in front of our back four, we lost as neither of our midfielders could run.
As for sneijder he is done, had no form and health problems since WC 2010

i agree that keane wasnt a out and out sitter, we were very lucky to have a player who could do it all. like viera did for arsenal. but even still he did the majority of the defensive work in our midfield for that team which would suggest that he was our defensive mid

You lost at Norwich because you had no ball winner in midfield. We also beat Arsenal at home, but in that game they dominated possession for large spells and really we got an early goal and shut up shop. Where as in the game against you we were able to knock the ball around and really get through your midfield quite easily. You didn't have a ball winner in there, and you really need one

Would still rather a box to box combative midfielder who's comfortable on the ball and can play football whereas today's DM's are just tackle monkies that break up the play and offer little else.
Basically I want Roy Keane. Or Viera.
