Quiet on here.....
Just thought things had gone fairly quiet on here, so decided to start a new thead!
What are everyones thoughts on the upcoming clash in Scotland between Burns & Mitchell?
Has the undercard been decided yet either?

Re: Quiet on here.....
Funny I was thinking the same about the quietness, seems to be pretty much dead of late. Has everyone migrated somewhere else?
I think Ricky will be just too good for Mitchell, I think it'll be a close decision, I don't think Burns will have the power to trouble Mitchell, or Mitchell the power to trouble Burns for that matter, so 12 rounds of action. Both are pretty good boxers, But Burns nicks it for me.
In an ideal world I'd love to see Burns blast Mitchell out, but can't see that happening.

Mitchell for me, all day and every day. Quicker, better movement and demonstrated in that gruelling scrap with Murray that he can suck it up when he needs to. I don't think Burns hits anywhere near hard enough to offset these advantages which Mitchell has - not sure what the Scotsman can do with him, to be honest.
Mitchell to box his way to a clear decision, something like 116-112, although I wouldn't rule out a late stoppage.

Re: Quiet on here.....
I think the reason why it has been quiet is that there hasnt been any big fights in the last month other than the olympics which did get some good chat.
Re: Quiet on here.....
I'm going to go with Mitchell as well. However, I don't have the same confidence in the outcome as Chris.
I think he is underrating Burns somewhat. Burns is a classy operator himself and I don't see Mitchell having it all his own way. Especially considering that Burns is about as dedicated a trainer as is imagineable, whilst the same cannot be said for Mitchell.
It may also prove to be a factor that the fight is taking place in Burns' back yard, where he will enjoy a fiercely pro-Scotland, anti-England atmosphere.
With regards to the quietness on the boards. It has been anything but, if, like me, you enjoy quibbling over who, and what exactly constitutes a boxing expert....

Really? Got to say I wasn't expecting many to go for Mitchell in this one.
I just think Burns has got a lot more class about him and Mitchell will be too easy to hit. I'm actually thinking this one will be a late stoppage :S Although I have nothing to back that up.
Has anyone seen any odds on it?

I personally like both fighters, Mitchell showed his guts against Murray while Burns should his skill set against Katsidis. Will be very interested and a real pick em fight.

Re: Quiet on here.....
Murray too one dimensional (and shop worn) for Mitchell, I just don't have the confidence that fight was a fair assessment of where Mitchell is at (maybe it was and i'm totally wrong, wouldn't be the first time). Burns obviously doen't have the power to run through Mitchell in the way that Katsidis did, But I think going down the home straight he'll pull clear by a couple of rounds.
Am really looking forward to the fight though, think its has the makings to be the domestic fight of the year.

Think a few are on Holiday also.
Going for Mitchell, think he's too fast and has more dimensions than Burns. Burns is a tough cookie to beat when you're an extremely aggressive fighter because he truly does have all the basics down to a T. He is the perfect basic Billy Nelson made fighter.
However with (I imagine) the large majority of the fight being fought on the outside, I would assume Mitchells superior speed and extra skills will see him through to a hard fought decision, could be a real cracker, though.

Re: Quiet on here.....
Burns vs Mitchell will be a great fight. Mitchell has all the attributes but a dodgy mind, Burns has a great mind and some very good attributes.
Burns wont let Mitchell counter him, he'll know the key to victory for him is volume, range, his jab and solid feet movement. For Mitchell to win he has to coax Burns into range and get off, he has to work near the ropes and off the back-foot, and if that doesn't work he needs to be the aggressor.
It's a pick 'em for me. If Mitchell turns up fit and ready he can do the business. Most improved British boxer of the last two years has to go to Burns though, so really tough to call this one. My heart says Burns but my head says it's a pick 'em.

Re: Quiet on here.....
i think burns has got the skills to get the decision but mitchell has the power to KO him, which burns lacks. that said if he can avoid the heavy shots early on i think he will box to a UD. wouldn't rule out a very controversial decision from the judges either.

Re: Quiet on here.....
On paper it's a great fight for Mitchell. Burns doesn't have the power that Katsidis possesses. As stated above, Mitchell has the better hand speed and movement. All that being said, I think Burns will win it clear enough.
I can see Mitchell starting fast, racking up the early rounds. But after Mitchell's early success, Burns will take control, boxing behind his jab and then mixing it up to the body. For all Mitchell's physical advantages, I think Burns has the better boxing brain. Mitchell has a tendancy to get drawn into the kind of fight his opponent wants instead of fighting his own. Against Murray and Carl Johanneson (sp) to a certain extent, he was tagged and forgot his own game plan. Whilst Burns doesn't have the power of those two, although in my opinion he isn't as feather fisted as made out, he's a superior boxer to both. His chin will take Mitchell's best shots, and will gradually force Mitchell to come to him then will work both the head and body to a comfy-ish UD.

Agreed mitchell has a touch of class......
Typical Warren getting a just-been hammered katsidis to make Burns look good.....
As for it being quiet on here.....There is always silence when I'm posting!!!.......So people can digest my words of wisdom and become more knowledgeable and rounded human beings..
I'm sure that was God's mission in sending me to this Island!!!!

I think Burns in an easier manner than expected, although Kevin has certain qualities I've never been massively oversold on him. Burns isn't John Murray much more versatile and better boxer, Mitchell stands flat footed at times and doesn't actually block shots, Burns by wide decision or late stoppage for me.

Would have liked to see Mitchell be a bit more busy of the last year or so, Burns isn't the sort of guy to go in against if your a bit ring rusty, and I'd have thought that Murray should have at least put a toe back into world class waters before diving into a world title fight.

Re: Quiet on here.....
For me a lot of this fight depends on preparation. When both fully prepared Mitchell is the superior fighter - a better technician with a bigger punch. But Burns is a dedicated pro who will be buoyed by the home crowd, he will try to win this fight on workrate and volume punching. If Mitchell is at his best he slips and counters and takes over later on, winning either a late stoppage or a decision. If Mitchell isn't at his best he gets overrun by Burns and sees the fight drift away from him with every round that Burns puts in the hard miles. Mitchell annoys me as he has talent but is dragged down by a work shy chav mentality. If he had Burns dedication he'd have been a world champ ages ago. But he went into the lions den against Murray and did a number on him, and I don't see Burns as being any better a fighter than an undefeated Murray was. Gonna hang my hat on a Mitchell points victory on the assumption he knows his career is in the last chance saloon and and turns up ready.

Am surprised at your confidence there Chris, whilst I agree with you Mitchell is the classier operator it seems pretty clear he hardly leads a monastic lifestyle outside the ring and whatever one thinks of Burns' talent level he is clearly a very dedicated and commited pro aqnd you know he is turning up in excellent condition and is unlikely to get bowled over quickly or fade, throw into that home advantage and this is not a fight I would call with any degree of confidence. On talent Mitchell is the smart pick but if this get attritional I would not rule out Burns' out toughing him.

Suprised by some of the predictions for Mitchell, especially giving both fought Katsidis recently. Think it will be an easier night for Burns than some expect. I also Hope Harrison/Murray is on the undercard otherwise they've missed a trick.

Re: Quiet on here.....
Still not completely sold on burns, imo his last tough fight was against Martinez at SFW. The likes of Moses, laryea shouldn't be a threat to a world champion
Katsidis was a good scalp to have and is the only common opponent between the 2 but remember how much punishment he took in the Marquez fight and the Guerrero fights. No excuses but it definitely took a lot out of him, it would take a lot out of any fighter
Mitchell holds the skills edge and the speed edge and burns the one with the high output, better stamina and the more consistent performer. Should be tight but Mitchell will win it based on the better quality of punches landed

"Given both have fought Katsidis recently"...........
What does difference does that make......Katsidis had a Rosario type battering before Burns!!!
and styles make fights.............

Gonna go with Burns by a few rounds. Just think he's being a bit under rated here and is a better boxer than he's being given credit for. Mitchell is talented but he's a loose cannon and I wouldn't want to be backing him against a man as dedicated to training as Burns is. 115-111 by the end.

Re: Quiet on here.....
So you think had Mitchell fought Katsidis after he got beat twice in a row things would have been different? And will be taking no comparisons from their recent common opponent? Mitchell was nearly taken out agaunst Murray, that fight was aways going to be tough due to their styles, Burns won't be fighting Mitchells fight.

Re: Quiet on here.....
He wasn't nearly taken out by Murray.......
Katsidis was made for Burns as he would've been made for Mitchell had he shown any discipline..
He was face first garbage who was lucky he didn't share a ring with guys like Camacho...Chavez..Nelson in the 80's who destroy him!!!!
Context here..... please...
