Fantasy 24/7 Empty Fantasy 24/7

Post by John Bloody Wayne Fri 17 Aug 2012, 2:48 pm

There was another thread about the best 24/7 moments in the series' short history, most of them were the ever tiring Mayweather family antics.

So what about all the great rivalries before 24/7? Which would make for the best viewing if it'd been around back then. Reading The Four Kings makes me think Duran v Leonard I would've been great TV, as would some of the old time crazies like Greb v Walker.

Over to you, pilgrims...

Seems an obvious answer but you have to feel Ali and Frazier would have been great, a genuine rivalry without having to force it and Ali never saw a camera he didn't love.

Going back some years you would have had to have thought Jack Johnson vs Ketchel would have been funny as well, Jack did not seem short of personality and Ketchel was a madman

Anything with John L Sullivan if the stories of him going into bars and challenging everyone in there to a fight were true.

Max Baer could've been fun too.

I wonder what would have happened if he had walked into a bar and Peter Jackson was there?

He would've sited that blacks weren't allowed in said bar.

Ha, a lot of pubs in Rotherham operate a similar policy.

Greb versus Walker, for me. Some serious antipathy and attitude between those two.

Laugh
One thing I learned from an exhaulted former member who is no longer around is that, actually, champions like Jack Dempsey weren't actually champions of the world because they didn't face black fighters and there was no politics surrounding this and it is what stops them from being quality imo like Ali and Tyson.

Griffith v Paret would certainly have had some spite during build up.

Benn/Eubank would have been brilliant.

Perhaps Tyson / Lewis too.

Johnson/Jeffries or Louis/Schmelling would have been intense.

Mayorga vs Anybody

Barrera v Morales had genuine spite, but I get the feeling neither would play up to the cameras that much. Erik maybe a little bit but they generally spoke with their fists...in the ring or out.
