2012 Standings
See Spoiler Below for Final League Standings:
Keeper Rules
- 3 players per year max.
- Can keep players twice (so three years total per guy) before forcible release.
- Players take the value of there draft round in the first redraft.
- Players move up in value by 5 rounds for the second redraft, or as high as they can go otherwise.
- If you end up with stacked picks (multiple players as keepers who count as the same round) they build up backward. e.g. if my keepers are draft picks 3, 4 and 5 I would loose draft picks 3, 4 and 5 in the first redraft and 1, 2 and 3 in the second as each player would be upgraded to an effective 1st rounder by the 5 round rule and therefore stack up.
- Undrafted players are valued at round 10 for the first redraft.
- Traded players initially count as there drafted position with the +5 rule in effect for all subsequent years.
- Years of eligibility are team specific, based on the round value of the player when traded to you. e.g. if a player is drafted in round 12 and is kept by another team for one season they will be valued as a round 7 pick when traded in year two due to the +5 rule.
- Abuse of the above rule by trading away a player over the keeper period only to get them back afterward will invalidate the resetting of two year eligibility.
- Once a player has no eligibility left on a given team they will count as a 1st rounder if traded away to somebody else and retained

2012 Draft Analysis
See Spoiler Below for Draft Analysis:
- Spoiler:
- Thunder and Lightning - First Three Picks: – A. Foster (RB), A. Johnson (WR), Greg Jennings (WR).
One of two inactive teams in the draft, however the roster has fantastic potential. Tony Romo in round 4 is a bargain as he often goes in the high twenties, let alone 48. In fact no QB was taken in round 2 or 3 having had five go in the first round. His pass catchers are pretty great, certainly if Andre Johnson can stay healthy and Demaryius Thomas beats out Eric Decker as the top dog in Peyton Manning’s route tree. Running back is a potential weakness, but this is with the obvious caveat of having top overall selection Arian Foster. Jonathan Stewart is stranded in an unpredictable timeshare, Felix Jones is a number two following up a bad camp performance and Ronnie Brown is only the short term starter in San Diego whilst Matthews is out. By being inactive he got the top kicker in David Akers, plus an early selection of the Detroit defence who were clearly overdrafted.
Enter RG3 - First Three Picks: – A. Rodgers (QB), A. Peterson (RB), R. Matthews (RB).
Draftday nightmares for Number-25 put a dampener on the draft process as he was having plenty of issues selecting players via Internet Explorer (Go Chrome!). Aside from possessing two defences due to the above issues I think the roster is relatively good. As it’s a keeper league the top three selections are very strong. Rodgers is an obvious choice; I certainly would have taken him in a Keeper league at number 1 or 2. Adrian Peterson is damaged goods right now, but there is no reason to believe he won’t be a beast and is great value at a second round keeper. Similarly Ryan Matthews is a little banged up but has great potential for this season and the next few. The weakest position is probably wide receiver because Kenny Britt looses value due to him being a total plank. Denarius Moore at round 10 could breakout but is unlikely to become a keeper so his impact may be limited. Stevan Ridley is overdrafted at number 71 as was the Defence and Janikowski in the mid rounds though this largely relates to the techy issues. Jake Locker is a breakout candidate, but will likely never see the field barring Rodgers’ bye.
They Put a hole in the roof - First Three Picks: – T. Brady (QB), R. White (WR), H. Nicks (WR).
A well balanced team that results from four positions being drafted in the first five picks. Tom Brady will anchor the team for the full three year period and whilst Roddy White looses out on targets due to Julio Jones he is still easily worth a second rounder based on previous form. I prefer Hakeem Nicks to Victor Cruz who I feel may regress a lot versus last year, so I’m glad to see him go earlier in this draft. As mentioned on the West thread I also feel Hernandez may be the better TE to own out of New England this year so that rates as a solid forth rounder. Jason Witten is a fab backup tight end and may see time at the flex as a result of it. Weakness comes at running back, a natural result of not getting one until round 5. BenJarvus Green Ellis should produce okay, and if in doubt he is handcuffed with Bernard Scott. I like Mikel Leshoure in round 10 as a soon to be starter in Detroit, however Beanie Wells is moving in the opposite direction and Mark Ingram and DeAngelo Williams are stuck in messy timeshares. Got the Packers defence by selecting in round 13 and not 14 and they should generate a good amount of points.
Corn on the Schaub - First Three Picks: R. Rice (RB), M. Jones-Drew (RB), W. Welker (WR).
I’ll be honest, I love a lot of my draft. You can basically chalk in Ray Rice and Maurice Jones-Drew as my keepers for the next two years and that represents a dominant pair. Now Pocket Hercules has some well documented issues this season, but I’ve handcuffed him with Rashard Jennings who will become waiver wire fodder once MJD gets back on track. Wes Welker is a top receiver and whilst Dez Bryant still flatters to deceive I’m always happy to throw a forth rounder at him. Matt Ryan is poised to break out this year having finished fantastically last year in the regular season, though I had to hesitate when choosing him over Phillip Rivers whose interceptions and questionable receivers put me off in a keeper. My other receivers are alright, certainly Reggie Wayne is the only proven target for Andrew Luck and we saw what that did for Steve Smith with Cam Newton. I like Heyward-Bey to breakout from the muddy Raiders receiving corps and Jon Baldwin of the Chiefs could get a fair few targets. Got stung by TEs and couldn’t get one until round 10 and I have some regret over that.
Prestige Worldwide - First Three Picks: – L. McCoy (RB), J. Graham (TE), B. Marshall (WR).
Potentially my favourite one year line up, but I’m not as sold on it long term. LeSean McCoy, Frank Gore and Willis McGahee are a strong running back group for year one, but I’m not sure you would keep anyone outside of the Eagles back. Additionally RDuncan8 has Rashard Mendenhall who appears to be progressing better than expected from his injury – great value at a twelfth round tariff. Jay Cutler and Ben Roethlisberger offer good variety at QB, but in one sense they are relatively evenly matched and may present a weekly dilemma which often leads to fantasy regret! Speaking of Cutler, I love Brandom Marshall this year now that he is back with the Vanderbilt QB and him plus Marques Colston who benefits from the departure of Robert Meachem should be a good starting pair. Jimmy Graham is my top TE for the year and good value at number 20.
Flynn it to win it - First Three Picks: – D. Brees (QB), L. Fitzgerald (WR), F. Jackson (RB).
As per the 606v2 West draft Cherries was inactive, however I think he will be more pleased with the outcome of this draft. Drew Brees solidifies the QB position for the three years and despite the issues in the desert Larry Fitzgerald is a top receiver who always produces points. His other receivers are alright, namely Mike Wallace and Miles Austin though I don’t hold out much hope for Michael Crabtree or Santana Moss. Flacco could produce well this year as the Ravens appear a little more balanced, however he is clearly a one week player with Brees on the roster. Running back is again a little weak – it’s the nature of the position these days although the starters of Fred Jackson and Ahmad Bradshaw are more than serviceable. He’s landed the top defence in the 49ers (despite potential resentment as a Seahawk), though Dan Bailey is overdrafted as a kicker.
Flying High - First Three Picks: – C. Johnson (WR), T. Richardson (RB), S. Jackson (RB).
The questions for flying high once again reside at the running back spot. Trent Richardson will surely be a fabulous keeper as a potential feature back for seasons to come, however he comes with injuries before having even taken a snap. Steven Jackson is at the other end of the career spectrum, likely heading south as the years go on. He does however remain the top option in St Louis and certainly for this season will still produce strongly. Peyton Hillis is the third guy and he will get carries with Jamaal Charles recovering from an ACL, but 3 backs is simply not enough. Megatron is the receiver to have and when paired with Stevie Johnson creates a strong 1-2 punch. QB is strong with Matt Schaub providing decent backup to Phillip Rivers who I love as a QB, but still throws too many interceptions. Tight end Antonio Gates is primed to perform this year without Vincent Jackson in San Diego, but again he is on the downside of his career. Speaking of San Diego, I do rate Malcolm Flloyd and he should get some looks at the flex spot.
Second Hand Secondary - First Three Picks: – C. Johnson (RB), R. Gronkowski (TE), M. Turner (RB).
I believe Chris Johnson will be back to form this year after last year’s hold out induced CJ2K slump – in fact if McCoy hadn’t dropped to 6 in the West league I may have taken him over a QB. Michael Turner gets a lot of stick in fantasy circles but will still produce decent points this year despite the Falcons morphing into a prolific passing offence. Michael Bush could be a neat pick up for a flex spot, but don’t expect too much. In a shock turn of events I actually support the drafting of Rob Gronkowski as he “slipped” to number 17 and it’s a 12 team league, plus Kyle Rudolph is a longer term sleeper. Eli Manning is the main man at QB and in terms of receivers the team fields are series of diva receivers whose performance may fluctuate but as a group will provide solid weekly points. I still like Vincent Jackson, but not as much as last year and that is reflected in his 5th round status. In fact the sleeper pick here is Danny Amendola who I liked a lot in last year’s drafts before the injury bug hit.
Memphis Hound Dogs - First Three Picks: – C. Newton (QB), AJ Green (WR), D. Martin (RB).
Cam Newton is a solid sleeper pick, but you have to expect some drop off from last year, particularly in the all important rushing touchdowns which earn QBs extra points. I love Doug Martin as a keeper but I’ve never been a fan of Reggie Bush and I still wouldn’t have taken him 4th round - that is of course personal opinion as his performance last year merited it. Isaac Redman should be good for the first part of the season and maybe beyond whilst he gets increased snaps in light of Rashard Mendenhalls injury. His remaining backs consist of two of the guys in the 49er rotation, so there may well be some praying for a Frank Gore injury. Greg Olsen as the only tight end option is weak but I love the receiving corps. AJ Green is a star and a great keeper option, beyond that there are plenty of big sleepers but generally they are the sleepers I feel may pay off. I rank Eric Decker as the top WR in Denver, plus Torrey Smith is poised to benefit from a slightly more open Ravens passing game. He also got two solid rookie receivers in Justin Blackmon and Alshon Jeffrey who will get plenty of action right away. LeSean Jean is a super deep sleeper in Houston, but someone has to catch the passes in the slot.
Sri Lanka Rams - First Three Picks: – M. Stafford (QB), J. Jones (WR), S. Smith (WR).
There are some great aspects to the Sri Lanka Rams, but I wonder what the need to grab 3 QBs is, especially when your top guy is Matthew Stafford. I know he is an injury risk and the other guys, namely RGIII and Russell Wilson have great potential and should be fabulous trade bait if they pan out but I still wouldn’t be balancing my roster that way. As such I think the running backs are relatively weak, though you can’t blame that on the excess QB drafting because it was a lack of early RB selections that are to blame. I like Darren Sproles, but Cedric Benson is the number two and I see him more as a matchup based flex player as we know Green Bay will throw it more often than not. Ben Tate is similar, though in my view has more value than Benson as a weekly Flex back due to the tendency for Houston to run the ball with their great blocking. I’m not even going to comment on Alfred Morris as I have gone all Adam Rank and declared war on Shanahanagains… I’m not drafting one period. The wideouts however are what sets this team apart. Julio Jones is going to be amazing this year, Steve Smith is still basically the only guy in Carolina and Antonio Brown is poised for a big year now that we know the Steelers have placed their faith in him and not Mike Wallace.
The Diddley Poos - First Three Picks: – M. Forte (RB), J. Charles (RB), J. Nelson (WR).
I’m not a massive fan of Mike Vick, particularly in a keeper league as it’s a possibility he is let loose after this year due to his contract parameters, however a 62nd pick isn’t bad value at all given his ability. The key is for him to stay healthy as you don’t want to rely on Matt Cassel as anything more than a bye week replacement and a possible matchup based starter against Oakland’s corners for example. The main reason I like this team is the skill at running back. Jamaal Charles was a top selection in last years drafts and whilst he has been injured and it’s an ACL you can’t argue that he has the talent to be the focal point of the offence again this year. Charles is paired up with Matt Forte and also Ryan Williams who I’m pretty much certain will overhaul Beanie Wells sooner rather than later. He even has Taiwan Jones with smashing 14th round value to cover the seasonal Darren McFadden injury. The WRs are also strong with Percy Harvin and Jordy Nelson both good candidates for keeper status and Dwayne Bowe still dominating in Missouri. There are also a couple of sleeper wideouts, with Kendall Wright particularly intriguing from my perspective. Finally the tight ends, whilst unestablished, offer great potential with Coby Fleener likely seeing plenty of targets early in Indy due to his Stanford connection.
BamBam’s Warriors - First Three Picks: – D. McFadden (RB), D. Murray (RB), M. Lynch (RB).
BamBam was worried about his team being labelled as accident and emergency and I can see his point!. Darren McFadden should be a fantastic keeper as his talent is undoubted, however he never remains healthy and BamBam wasn’t able to snag Taiwan Jones as a handcuff. DeMarco Murray has worries too, but I like the guy and rate him quite highly. Getting Marshawn Lynch at number 36 in a draft containing Cherries shows two things – firstly great value, but also that he overdrafted the same player in the West league. Jacquizz Rodgers is a super sleeper and a dark horse for a keeper if things go south with Michael Turner. Peyton Manning is obviously a solid QB and decent value at sixth round value, however I think Andrew Luck was slightly over drafted for this season simply due to the keeper format where he could soon build up to become a star. Victor Cruz at the beginning of the fourth round is fabulous value and highlights more overdrafting in the West draft. I like Jeremy Maclin above other Eagles wideouts and Titus Young seems set for a decent year if he doesn’t throw it away off the field. Randall Cobb and Jared Cook are young up and comers, though only the latter will see the field regularly in fantasy. If it wasn’t for plenty of injury concerns I’d label in this roster in the top couple.

Me and Seabass have history in fantasy .. He owes me a rubbish performance after scoring something like 18 fantasy points against me last year to give me a loss
Should be very close, hopefully DMC runs wild!

Just noticed that I'm up 30 points in the West league, and the Tankers have DMC so I don't want him to run too wild, a nice 25 points should do it

Slightly hollow victory as he is still away as noted previously, but it's not like his side is full of bye weeks or duff starters.
It was all about Matt Ryan!

A disappointing week for me in this league (unless AJ Green finds 40 points from somewhere).

Me and Seabass have history in fantasy .. He owes me a rubbish performance after scoring something like 18 fantasy points against me last year to give me a loss
Should be very close, hopefully DMC runs wild!
Can't quite believe it but I ended up with the highest score in this league this week!
I'd love to take all the credit for it but I can' unfortunately.... turns my autopicking hell that I experienced in the draft went in my favour as the 3 guys I started that got autopicked for me (Ridley, Janikowski and Bears D) contributed 41.2 points! Am well pleased with Peterson's performance though - he could be a 2nd round steal (is there such a thing???) if he keeps that up.

Was a whole 21 points behind RDuncan8 with the Ravens D/ST to go for my team and the Bengals D/ST for his and so very nearly pulled off a victory! Lost by 2 points in the end! Need more points from my RBs though- a measly 8.3 from Turner and Johnson combined. The Falcons look like they're going to pass a lot this year so Turners numbers may stay low but hopefully not

Sorry... I didn't realize we are now trading AARON RODGERS AND ADRIAN PETERSON away just to get RGIII
I know this is a keeper league, so RGIII has increased value, but seriously. This is the top QB and arguably (once health is out of the way) the top RB (especially in a keeper) for a guy who has played two games.

Can't say I'm surprised it hasn't been received well. I do love the offer but I probably would've just done it for either player to be honest. Well maybe Peterson but most definitely Rodgers.

I could understand it if it was for one of the guys, especially as keeper rules mean that RG3 could be kept for a 5th round pick, but 2 of the probable 5 or 6 picks next year is crazy

Re: 606V2 Keeper League 2012 – NFL.com Fantasy Football Homepage
Evenin' all! I see my trade offer to Barney has set tongues wagging!
Here's the thought process - Through 2 weeks, RG3 is the highest scorer in the league. I think he's only going to keep getting better. He wasn't drafted until something like the 5th round which means if I keep him next season I have potentially a 1st round QB for the price of a 5th rounder. If I kept Rodgers next season then that's my 1st round pick gone. With RG3 I get a 1st round QB and I can use my 1st round pick on a RB. I didn't think Barney would want to just swap RG3 for Rodgers given the way both have started this season and also the fact that Griffin will be excellent value next season. I thought I'd have to make him an offer he couldn't refuse so threw in AP because I reckon I can get by with the RBs I have. Also looking ahead to next season, if I keep RG3 and Ryan Matthews then I've got a very good QB/RB combo and still have my 1st and 2nd round picks to augment that further. Keeping Rodgers and AP would cost me a 1st and 2nd round pick next season. I couldn't keep both to be honest. Also, who knows if AP will be the same AP that we've always known? Too early to say if that torn up knee will come back haunt him at some point.
If this was a one season league then I don't make this trade but it's a keeper league and I reckon I can give myself a much better chance of winning next season while still staying competitive this season if I make this trade.

Why ever not? You have three keepers and regardless of them being valued at rds 1 and 2, there studs at there position.
I imagine quite a few people will be keeping there top 2 picks. I will be regardless of what happens this year because i'm not getting anyone better next year than Ray Rice and MJD
Number-25 wrote: I didn't think Barney would want to just swap RG3 for Rodgers given the way both have started this season and also the fact that Griffin will be excellent value next season.
You mean your first offer was AP and Rodgers? Why? I don't think Rodgers for RGIII is a good deal either... regardless of how "bad" Rodgers has been and "good" RGIII has been, one has much more of a history than the other. Why wouldn't you try the straight swap... there is no need to throw in a potentially fantastic RB in as well
Cam Newton was fab at the beginning of last year fantasy wise and has faded... it may happen to RGIII. Rodgers has consistent production, fantastic recievers and has so far played the best defence in the NFL (SF) and a tight rivalry game which is often quite low (relative) scoring. He's not on a bad season yet, certainly keeping him for 3 years as you can here is still literally the best decision you can make.

Re: 606V2 Keeper League 2012 – NFL.com Fantasy Football Homepage
Well, yeah, of course I could keep Rodgers and AP but there's an opportunity here to potentially get a 1st round QB for a 5th round pick without there being any drop off in production at the QB position this year. This is fantasy football, not actual football so this isn't me making an assessment that I think in actual terms RG3 is as good a QB as Rodgers. In fantasy terms though, RG3 is outplaying him at the moment and there are good signs there to suggest that he will continue to do so. This is a major gamble but isn't this game supposed to be fun???
With regards chucking in AP from the start, I hate it when people muck about making trades and waste your time by trying to get guys on the cheap. I personally wouldn't have traded RG3 for Rodgers at this moment in time given how fast a pace RG3 has set off at. I felt I would have to come up with a deal that Barney couldn't refuse and I felt I could spare AP although it will leave me crossing my fingers the rest of this season that the rest of my RBs can stay healthy. Again, isn't this supposed to be fun. If it all works out then I look like a genius. If it doesn't then I'm a donkey! As the saying goes though, better to regret something you have done than something you wish you'd done.
Having said all that, RG3 hasn't got off to the most dazzling start tonight

Disappointed to lose in the end. Was low enough in the waivers to pick up Andre Brown (25 pts) and then I left Torrey Smith on the bench (24 pts) as I weren't sure of his status and he was my last player to play.
On the upside going forward I did have the second highest score of the week in the league (so far anyway).

Well, in the battle of the teams that Barney has traded with, I lost by 4 points. Happy enough though that it wasn't anything to do with the Mike Ditka-esque blockbuster trade I made for RG3. He was everything I hoped he would be. My decision to go with Pitta and Finley instead of playing Denarius Moore instead of Pitta cost me the win. Thought I'd go with Pitta while he was hot knowing that at some point on that Baltimore offense he would cool down. Just didn't bank on him scoring zero points on the weekend that he did finally cool down. Hey ho, I still scored over 110 points and when that happens and you lose, you just have to congratulate the other guy

Thought I'd complete the Set with Jay Cutler... I think I now own him in every single league I have... 3 times as a backup, once as a starter
I like his matchup against Detroit in week 7 when Matty Ice is on a bye... certainly a crippled Jake Locker wasn't going to help me
