has henson mellowed?

no this isint a wum about henson, so dont worry!

i was watching Sports Wales and during the interview with Henson i was surprised how mellow and almost deflated he seemed, he also seemed very honest and open about how stupid he had been, to sum it all up when the interviewer asked henson if a good run at 10 for london welsh would see him in the welsh set up henson simply replied "those lads dont need me, they are a great bunch of lads, absolute class, they dont need me" is this a sign henson is actually growing up and realising the mistakes he has made albeit too late?

Lyn Jones has probably pointed out that humility never hurts. I reckon we can see Gav get some real form back under a great coach.

He did dish the dirt on Cardiff Blues though...!

“I don’t really want to drag it all up but if you watch that last game (against Glasgow) where I was brought on as a winger - that sums up the way things were there.

“It was going to be my last club but before that incident I was made well aware they were not going to sign me on.

Not much humility there. His track record with clubs speaks for itself.

THats semi contentious...! The clubs have obviously mucked him about too. Playing him out of position etc, unable to get decent game time, he had a few injuries too.

Toulon offered him a full contract providing he gave up international rugby. He wouldnt so they with drew the offer!!!

I think Lyn knows him better than anyone as a player so I guess he wouldnt have made the decision lightly... then again he will attract attention to the club which means profit...!

He was decent under Lyn Jones at the Ospreys. Their record point scorer for a long time, 700 odd points in 80 appearances with lots of injuries and rehab in between. I think Lyn Jones can make him decent and focused again.

He has courted controversy in all of them except for the Welsh national team I suppose.

Although - I have some newly discovered respect for him if he did indeed play 30 mins with a fractured face. Must have been excruciating.

Maybe he actually wants to end his playing career on a high? Rather than living off the now distinctly faded reputation of being a decent international player, in 2005.

Casartelli was it him who played with a fractured skull. Or maybe Jamie Roberts. Didn't some Welsh 12 do that before.

Jamie Roberts played on after banging skulls with Mortlock.

I think it was shown he had a fracture later.

It was brave on his part but IMO it should be a sackable offence for the medical team to have allowed it.

True though a Brocken bone is only diagnosed by x-ray. A dr might presume a fracture or break but not know for sure.

I think you have to give med staff some leeway.

Looks like the med staff on Saturday were more cautious.

Chequered, I don't think he has had more injuries than most rugby players.

I remember him having a very difficult 18 months from late 2005 until the 2007 RWC was over but there are heaps of players far unluckier than he when it comes to getting injured.

After the match Lyn Jones was clearly premature in his accusation accusing Manu Deacon of 'a late shoulder barge' as the cause of the injury.

Statement from London Welsh today -

' Having reviewed the DVD of the game LW are satisfied that injury to Gavin was caused by an accidental clash of heads and the club does not attach blame to any Scarlets player.'

Perhaps LW highly paid lawyers saw a slander writ coming ?

More likely an honest mistake. It was internally dealt with between two clubs that have been good friends for many years that both want to see each other do well in their respective seasons.

I thought Henson retired from rugby several years ago.

Yes of course the joke is on the 2010/11 AP champions. If Henson had knuckled down he might have even have picked up a winners medal. I know an awful lot more about the situation than you do. Henson allegedly made little to no effort - I heard he knew only 3 of the squads first names. Also I heard he refused to play for the Saracens A team when he first arrived at the club. The club has been tried to create a very tight knit team ethos. Henson made no effort to be part of this.

Saracens needed cover at 10/12 because Derrick Hougaard at the time was injured. Owen Farrell was a relatively unknown youngster who happened to step into the breach. Gavin Henson was swanning around in Strictly Come Dancing which allowed Farrell Jr to nail down their 10 shirt as his own. Henson was never going to supplant Brad Barritt at 12.

In regards to the other clubs do you think they are still worried about Henson? Toulon have been performing well in the Top 14 and are in the HC. Cardiff are in the HC.

The joke is of course not on Gavin Henson who was very lucky to get a contract from the AP bottom feeders and red hot favourites for relegation.

Yes because of course you know more about Saracens than me.

He can behave ok when sober.
He needs to keep clear of the booze for a while and focus on latest 'one more chance' saloon. He can go 'Jekyll & Hyde' after a couple of sodas, so needs to avoid the risk. Looking fwd to seeing London Welsh in the Jeff and at Kingsholm esp. Oxford is also a nearby 'Derby' for Glos supporters, so will try and make that one too. Come on Gav, focus mun !
