Mayweather, Pac - Yawn
First topic message reminder :
Seems to me since the announcement of TMT promotions that the May v Pac fight is more likely than ever. Pac seems to be pushing for it more behind the scenes and May more open to it. But don't they realise the fight has lost its luster? I mean, nobody can tell me Pac beats May now. I don't even think it is close and itis at least 3 years overdue. They blew it, so why can't they just move on anf fight more competative opponents.
Pac v Cotto might happen again and I think that would be a far closer fight than before.
May has less options, but Sergio at 154 would be amazing should he beat Junior.
Just give up on Pac v May. It will be far mroe fun arguing on here hwo would have won in five years time than talking about whther Pac got spanked cause he was old, or whether the juice simply wore off.

I bet 90% of boxers are juicers anyway, just as all sports.

I don't really get why so much emphasis is placed on who's to blame for the fight not happening thus far - it seems like both parties could have done more to make the fight happen and without ALL of the facts just see it a bit pointless to bicker over who did what and what they were thinking etc...
If the fight does come to fruition later this year/early next year I think Mayweather will win, but the question marks around what the result would have been had the fight happened when it should've will remain...

Thumbs up. How can anyone argue for one side or the other with any real basis (or, for that matter, any real energy)? This episode is a stain on boxing. I actually now hate to see it legitimised as a talking point. It should be dismissed as the farce it is. We should like to watch and talk about the sweet science of boxing - not discuss the poorly understood negotiations surrounding this embarrassing non event.

Chris and TopHat
I purposefully didn't include the Hatton and De La Hoya fights as they had no crossover with the potential Mayweather fight happening so was focusing solely on the fights they both took when it was being touted.
Stylistically Marquez is a tricky fight but someone who's being talked about as being a potential Mayweather beater shouldn't get comprehensively outboxed by a victim of his he completely outclassed, weight aside he would have been far too good for JMM.
Margarito, Mosley and Clottey all coming off losses were duff fights which offered nothing to Pacquiao as apposed to fights against current world champions in Ortiz, Cotto and Mosley. Pacquiaos Cotto was better than Mayweathers but on the balance of performances and opposition have to give it to Mayweather.

Re: Mayweather, Pac - Yawn
it was my comment you picked up on originally ghosty, regarding who was the risk taker among them, and i was speaking historically, as i suspect were the others.. i.e. throughout his career pac has taken more risks, which from a gut feel perspective makes me think he'd not shy away from the fight. Mayweather, in my opinion has been a bit more careful throughout his career
Don't think it matters who they pick once the fight has been touted. Arguably, there's a genuine reason not to take a risk if you're lining up a huge fight.
Anyway, any more colour line great threads lined up rowley?

At some point milky, might just go the populist route and do a thread called "Pound for Pound does Lennox Lewis do the best stevie wonder impression of any former heavyweight champion"

Corrales, Hernandez, Castillo, hatton, de la Hoya were all risky fights for mayweather, easy to forget he has tested himself much more than people tend to suggest. Not much in it but I do favour mayweathers opponents while there alternative recent opposition is hugely important.

Re: Mayweather, Pac - Yawn
i like mayweather, and i have always believed he would have beaten manny since the fight was first mooted. however i would say he was slightly more to blame for the fight not happening. i dont know wether its because he genuinely believed manny was cheating or because he didnt think the fight was worth risking his unblemished record for, but he certainly didnt want the fight 3 years ago. blaming bob arum is just too convenient. the other problem is that the fight is not worth as much money to either fighter as people like to believe. both guys would have to considerably drop their percentage to fight each other and could have easily balanced out the increased revenue.
