England v South Africa at Southampton, 2nd ODI
First topic message reminder :
With the wash out at Cardiff, this fixture has no less the importance of that as regards to whoever wins either keeps/gains the number one International ODI team position in the world. Both will give it everything they have.
Likely teams i would think pretty much as the first ODI, ie:
England.
AN Cook, IR Bell, IJL Trott, RS Bopara, EJG Morgan, C Kieswetter†, TT Bresnan, CR Woakes, GP Swann, JM Anderson, ST Finn.
South Africa.
GC Smith, HM Amla, D Elgar, AB de Villiers*†, JP Duminy, F du Plessis, R McLaren, WD Parnell, RJ Peterson, M Morkel, LL Tsotsobe

AB would get a couple of sighters before the power play starts. South Africa would very much need him to be there at the end of it.

If we can get Amla out in the next couple of overs, we may just be able to keep them below 275.

question to Biltong: wouldn't you want AB to be coming in earlier than this?

Re: England v South Africa at Southampton, 2nd ODI
It is one fault of de Villiers, I feel.
He really should be facing the music higher up the order and taking more responsibility, particularly at this stage of his career, whereas to me he has always tended to shy away from the high pressure role and always looked to fill his boots later on in an innings.

Kieswetter drops another one, but this is more a case of saving three runs I think. Bresnan really down on pace, is he bowling cutters?

Kieswetter's having a rather tough day out there, another very dificult chance goes down, and its AB.

Yeah, sorry mate, but I think SA needs to have their quick scoring batsmen in as soon ascwickets fall after the 20th over, especially those adept at accumulating runs, usually there aren't any powerplayscon between 20 and 30 overs so the field is more spread.Mad for Chelsea wrote:well that was short but sweet at least Biltong

Batting PP. England goes in with the advantage to start with, AB isn't looking very good out there, he's been edgy out there, but he starts the PP with a confident drive of Finn.

de Villiers looks much happier with pace on the ball. Finn a tad full so far, though he's troubling Amla still.

AB has to be careful running with Hashim. Quick single, direct hit from Cook, but the batsmen are safe.

Patel into the attack, think this is a good move from Cook.

Good over that from Patel, 7 of it, AB isn't looking very comfortable against him.

England keeping things under check, 6 of the 3rd PP over from Finn.

better from Finn, just 6 from that. SA should be looking at 280-plus here, but if England can pick up a couple of wickets you never know...

Bresnan's first ball is driven imperiously on the up over mid-off by Amla (great shot), but he comes back well, and just one more run from the over.

Meanwhile, a one time England batsman moves on to 103 not out in Surrey's CC match against Somerset. 'Absolute masterclass on how to dominate an attack' - Mark Church on BBC Radio London.
Hopefully that will encourage the current England batsmen in this ODI ....

Bedwetter had better make some runs with the bat because he'll be starting from a negative number in my score book.

and now Bresnan fails to stop one at third man, England have been really ordinary again in the field I'm afraid.

Wonderful century today from a genius of a batsman.
And a decent knock from Amla as well.

century for Amla
he's had a bit of luck (not least being dropped twice), but it's been a lovely innings.

poor decision by Taufel there, clearly bat onto body but he gives it not out. I don't like criticising umpires but that was a shocking decision.

That's pretty disgusting behaviour from de Villiers tapping his shoulder. Fair enough to not walk (I wouldn't) but no need for the other nonsense.

England mugged of a wicket by a Johnny Foreigner Umpire.

AB deVilliers' IPL teammate with a fine hundred for an English county side.

quite. The trend of trying to hoodwink umpires is disturbing to say the least (much like batsmen showing their bat when facing an LBW appeal).

218-3 after 42. 8 an over from here would take them to 280. 10 an over would get them close to 300. But Anderson has bowled a fine over so far.

lovely bit of bowling by Swann, sensed him coming and fired in a faster yorker-length delivery that sneaked under the bat. Well deserved for Swann.

Filthy cheat.
ABdV, despite his obvious skill, is one of the luckiest batsmen in world cricket. Dropped catches and terrible umpiring decisions have aided him on countless occasions.

If it's all the same with you I'd rather you didn't quote me as a basis for your Xenophobic comments. I know it's only banter but I'd rather not be associated with it ta.
