ICC TEST RANKINGS

I have spoke to Fists via PM and decided that i will leave this thread here..

It will be the ICC test rankings and i shall edit it whenever there is a change...As it's posted in this part of the board there shouldnt be much discussion on this thread if any its purely to look at when changes are made

2.Australia - 117
3.England - 104
4.Pakistan - 103
5.Sri Lanka - 101
6.India - 96
7.New Zealand - 94
8.West Indies - 75
9.Zimbabwe - 32

How regular are the updates by CF

when the rankings change GSC....

GSC there's no need for discussion on this thread...Fists advised me to put this in this section of the cricket board as we try not to discuss on these threads once they're in this part of the forum.

Yeah this thread is more for reference, GSC, but can of course be open to debate as soon as there is any change in the rankings that warrants discussion.

with a lot of test match series about to start round the world, i will be reguarly updating this thread soon

Zimbabwe arent currently ranked as they havent played enough matches

Only problem I'd have with the rankings at the moment is that India are too high, probably due to that 4-0 win over a divided Australian team.

Rankings can only interpret reality. So as rankings they are correct.

Clearly, we can say that a ranking flatters a team, or fails to do them justice. But that doesn't mean that the rankings are 'wrong'.

Currently, SA's lead is well-deserved and I'd say the next four are correct (Pakistan could be higher, but other than the Eng series have no wins over the top four on their record).

Now I can see a flaw in the Test rankings. India, ranked above England, despite England stuffing them home and away in the last 2 years. Take that with a pinch of salt. Plus England are going to have smash the Aussies 4 zip or more to get their rightful place back.

There's been a few changes actually. Apart from Nos. 1 and 2, right Biltong?

Maybe wait until after the Pak-SL Series...

lol don't mean to be a pain, but can we move this chat lol, this thread wasn't set up for discussion it was for me to update the rankings, which i had been doing reguarly until this time, the one time i hadn't got round to doing it, but i assure you i will keep on top of it lol..

There won't be much change from now on though. I'll check up with it again after the SA tour.

updated. No change in the rankings themselves, but a few teams have gained/lost points.

I was quite surprised to hear the latest rankings today. Hard to believe it's been 5 years since Australia were top of the heap in both Test and ODI formats... it feels more like 4 and a half!   

The system is still a bit strange though.
All teams are really only as good as their last match... none of this delayed adjustment or weighting seems right, imo.

Does seem a bit weird for teams to swap places without anyone setting foot on the field , doesn't it...I mean I can see the logic of old results dropping off , etc ; and because matches are not played at the same time each year this can result in odd moves like this.
I think I'd prefer they only actually announced new rankings, say , every three , or maybe six , months , because I actually regard moves like this as more like leading after one lap of a mile race , rather than any real result.
That said , the truth is that on present form there isn't a lot between Australia and SA , and overall results probably entitle them to be tight at the top (despite several heavy losses in "big" series in recent years , Australia has managed to keep their points total up by winning a lot of Tests in series where they've been successful , so they only needed a run of wins to make up for the last losing streak).
Will be interesting : SA have lost some big players ...and Australia have to show they can play well in alien conditions as well as at home (and in SA , which is not too dissimilar in many ways)
We may have a better idea of the true position when everyone has played a few more Test Matches.

I am a little surprised by this. No offense to Australia, they deserve to be #1, but the reason they've climbed this quickly is because they were ranked so low, the defeats didn't hurt their points total as much as they could have. It's a joke system.

Congratulations to the Aussie team though. It's really only the fact that they beat us at home which makes this rather ridiculous sequence of events palatable.
