England v South Africa, 3rd ODI, The Oval
First topic message reminder :
England can snatch back the No.1 ODI Ranking with victory today and level the series but that will be unlikely with all the negative off-the-field drama that is happening. On the other hand, South Africa will be looking to cement their No.1 ODI ranking and go 2-0 up in the series. Should be a cracker of a game then.
England 1 Alastair Cook (capt), 2 Ian Bell, 3 Jonathan Trott, 4 Ravi Bopara, 5 Eoin Morgan, 6 Craig Kieswetter (wk), 7 Samit Patel, 8 James Tredwell, 9 Jade Dernbach, 10 James Anderson, 11 Steve Finn.
South Africa 1 Graeme Smith, 2 Hashim Amla, 3 JP Duminy, 4 Dean Elgar, 5 AB de Villiers (capt, wk), 6 Faf du Plessis, 7 Wayne Parnell, 8 Robin Peterson, 9 Dale Steyn, 10 Morne Morkel, 11 Lonwabo Tsotsobe.

Jaysus, that was close. Not sure he hit that... Harsh on Bopara.

F**k off umpire, nothing on hotspot. How does it go again? Same old Saffers, always cheating.

Hotspot is not full proof. There was a clear noise.

It really was close but i am not convinced Bops hit that but am equally unsure where the noise came from. In these i would be giving the benefit of the doubt to the batsman.

From a r/r of 5 to just over 3. Putting themselves in a spot of bother.

That is garbage duty, there was no blaming South Africa there, it was a very legitimate appeal and the umpire thought he he hit, nothing on hotspot but there was a sound when the ball went pass the bat. We can debate whether the ball made contact with the bat, but calling the South Africans name, I think it is in pretty poor taste.Duty281 wrote:F**k off umpire, nothing on hotspot. Was about to say cue the cheating South Africans rubbish but see I've been beaten to it. How exactly is appealling for a catch when you hear a noise cheating Duty281? Perhaps you were being ironic? Perhaps not.

That was the correct decision accourding to the rules? And it is a much better decision than what Kallis got when he was given not out and edging it and the 3rd umpire overruled him?

The benefit of the doubt was given to the onfield umpire which I think is correct.
Anyways he's gone and England have a task on here.

The benefit of the doubt goes with the umpires decision

So a dodgy decision has put England in strife, no need to worry though. 143 runs to win.

Good move from de Villiers, bringing Steyn back on. If SA could dislodge Morgan soon, England will find it very dificult from there on.

Cook and Trott for 8-9 overs caused it by not finding the singles, which Morgan will. Good bowling granted.

Based on the sound they got Bopara. I remember an incident 3 years ago where England didn't a decision based on sound. One rule for them and another for us I'm guessing.

There wasnt really any pressure on them to score fast skyeman but i do agree with you that they allowed the pressure to build too much.

What Mogs is very good at is keeping the scoreboard ticking over. As long as he is there, England should still cruise this.

Still depth to come in the batting. Kieswetter can hit a 50, Patel and Tredwell can hit 30+ in quick time.

Harsh comparison mate.
In this case, if the on-field umpire had said not out and the Saffas reviewed then the decision would have been upheld due to the lack of hotspot evidence - you need both types of evidence to overule the onfield call. And in that case the Saffas would be rightly aggrieved - England have benefited more from bad calls this tour than SA have.
Bopara was clearly out, so the right decision;s been made, there's no need for sour grapes.

Got you, but finding 2 or 3 singles per over in that tight bowling would have not put the pressure on in the first place. Mogs won't allow that to happen, thus putting the bowlers off.

Morgan being there at the wicket has quickened things a fair bit and he has managed to find the singles relatively easily. Trott should just try and stay out there as long as possible.

England? There was a loud sound and a mark on HotSpot if I remember rightly. How was the umpire to know he hit his shoelace and not the ball?
