England v South Africa, 3rd ODI, The Oval
First topic message reminder :
England can snatch back the No.1 ODI Ranking with victory today and level the series but that will be unlikely with all the negative off-the-field drama that is happening. On the other hand, South Africa will be looking to cement their No.1 ODI ranking and go 2-0 up in the series. Should be a cracker of a game then.
England 1 Alastair Cook (capt), 2 Ian Bell, 3 Jonathan Trott, 4 Ravi Bopara, 5 Eoin Morgan, 6 Craig Kieswetter (wk), 7 Samit Patel, 8 James Tredwell, 9 Jade Dernbach, 10 James Anderson, 11 Steve Finn.
South Africa 1 Graeme Smith, 2 Hashim Amla, 3 JP Duminy, 4 Dean Elgar, 5 AB de Villiers (capt, wk), 6 Faf du Plessis, 7 Wayne Parnell, 8 Robin Peterson, 9 Dale Steyn, 10 Morne Morkel, 11 Lonwabo Tsotsobe.

There is still enough runs required for SA to still have a chance.

England are pretty much back in control. They shouldn't do anything rash and just get on with it calmly.

Just went away for a while and missed it.Duty281 wrote:msp83 wrote:I can remember Rahul Dravid being given out based on sound last year. Guess against whom?Duty281 wrote:msp83 wrote:No dodgy decision, Bopara was out. Correct call from the umpire.
Based on the sound they got Bopara. I remember an incident 3 years ago where England didn't a decision based on sound. One rule for them and another for us I'm guessing.

England? There was a loud sound and a mark on HotSpot if I remember rightly. How was the umpire to know he hit his shoelace and not the ball?
The shoelace one wasn't even reviewed, it was another time during the same tour, Hotspot showed nothing even though there was a sound. Interestingly he was given out on an England review, Dravid later clarified he got a nick on it.

Mogs going for 100 here I think. Needs 34 of 53 required to win.

Not beyond reality either since he has scored 66 - 26 in the partnership

Morgan can be every bit as destructive as the nut, just does not carry the same aura.

Tsotsobe has been some way below his standards. He has been a very good ODI bowler, picking up wickets regularly and keeping things quite. He hasn't been able to do either of this in this match. Wasn't that effective in the last match either.

I know Jimmy got 4 wickets but this knock from Mogs has been a matchwinning and MotM effort for me.

Morgan has been a fine ODI batsman, England's best finisher after Neil Fairbrother? He has been very consistent, and over the last 3 years has been England's best ODI player.
But comparisons with Pietersen are a bit pointless, as Morgan's not half the test batsman that Pietersen is.

Neil Fairbrother is one of my all time favourites
As this is a ODI, i dont think that test comparissons have any relevance here

Billy, the comparison between Morgan and Pietersen as batsmen will have to include all formats of the game. Pietersen is many times the batsman that Morgan is in tests, Morgan has been the more consistent and better finisher in ODIs, although KP's record in the format is not bad by any means, and Pietersen is one of the very best T-20I batsmen in the world even though Morgan can be very destructive and effective in that format as well.

I would suggest KP is the better odi batter. his SR and average although similar are better, and t20 and test is miles better. Morgan is however a very good batsmen. But KP in all for me

Well, many here say that don't they? And then there would be interesting insinuations that would start it all over again!!.eirebilly wrote:msp83 wrote:Billy, the comparison between Morgan and Pietersen as batsmen will have to include all formats of the game. Anyways Kieswetter and Trott will have to see England through here. If South Africa manage a wicket within the next 10 runs, then there could be that little bit of pressure on Samit Patel and the rest.

As i said earlier, Mogs reminde me alot of Michael Bevan (for those that remember) except he lacks that composure that Bevan had. Mogs will often get out whereas Bevan was almost impossible to remove when seeing the Aussies home.
They both have/had that incredible ability to keep the scoreboard ticking over at a very comfortable rate.

Can England find a way to lose this one? I remember they losing an ODI to India in 1999 I think, needed 6 runs of 2 overs with 3 wickets, and they lost by 3 runs, with Ajay Jadeja taking 3 for 3 in an over!.
