No more perfectly illustrated than when Will Greenwood on the rugby club pointed out that Wasps had made some great signings including Tom Palmer who had his best game against Australia whom England smashed by 40/50 points a few years back! don't remember this game!

Sky sports hype re AVIVA Empty Re: Sky sports hype re AVIVA

For the last few years the Rugby Club has been nothing but a 60 minute advert. So it is no surprise to see this type of hype.

In general I feel Sky's rugby coverage is getting worse. We used to get a 90 min RC, and 2 hours of highlights for the HC and S15s. Now its all either online (so why am I paying my subscription?) or is 10 minutes long set to music.

It's sad to say but just about everything they come out with has already been said here before that. I wish ESPN would do their own version and Rugby Club would sort their act out. They need two 1 hour programmes one on a Monday as a weekend roundup and one on the Thursday as a preview.

Interesting HKC.
Can you actually dump the Sky sports package and retain the online access. In which case I'd dump Sky Sorts in a flash. ESPN is so much better - even if there's no Rugby Club equivalent. After all, as you say, its a rubbish overblown ad.

They had Dai Young on and the elephant in the room (Wasps finance) was not even offered a bun.

Portnoy you are spot on. About once a year they'll ask a diffiuclt question and clearly Dai wasn't going to get the year's quota!

In terms of online I was referring to the RC extra and the S15 highlights. You can watch those regardless of subscription. As Sky have increased the price I'd expect a bit more for my money.

Sky really need to learn from ESPN (who hopefully won't vanish next year seeing as they have lost the wendyball). Their highlights show is excellent as you actually get a proper feel for the game and not just the last 5 seconds before a try is scored.

to be fair they did touch on the subject of Wasps Finance saying they had a new consortium in place and last year was a struggle both on and off the pitch.

Whenever R5 get round to do one of Matt Dawson's rugby discussion programs (generally on a Thursday evening), the discussion is usually much better than TRC.

I always thought it lacked real substance and isn't a patch on the Super league show.
Shame because they could attract new fans to Rugby Union

advertise it in places, twitter etc. I'm sure if you got a couple thousand people on they might take a bit of notice.

ESPN had a highlights show last season with Peter Richards and then one of either the blond lass or Austin.

ESPN's coverage is so much better than Sky, I wish ESPN would pick up the internationals, AP and Super 15. If they became 'the' rugby channel then I'd happily ditch the Sky Sports package and just get the ESPN subscription.

For various reasons my digital TV is via BT. ESPN is free if I pay the extra £10 to get Sky Sports 1&2, but unavailable on it's own.

I think for me ESPN is about £12 a month on it's own, so that's a pretty good deal.

Virgin, if you buy a Sky sports package, ESPN comes free in the bundle. But you need to be on cable.

Sky is a hype machine. In fact everything is hyped up in the media. When you see loads of celebs who are famous despite having no talent, you begin to get an idea about the power of hype. Sky know this so naturally they're going to hype up things.

The HEC is another tournament they hype up to cringeworthy levels.

I do like the ESPN coverage but this years does seem to have a bit more of sky about it and a bit less of the real analysis.
