Teams you love to hate
First topic message reminder :
Other than your local rivals, which teams do you love to hate.
For me, it is Liverpool. Everything about the club at the moment is just a joke. Dalglish spending a small fortune on absolute gash as ruining the club for the coming seasons is a particular highlight. Brendan Rogers looking like he is sucking a lemon on the sidelines, Gerrard trying to replicate the form used to have, Suarez waving the imaginery card around and is now largely ignored by ref's, although he is still a cheating swine and gets freekicks he shouldnt.
So, which team do you love to hate.

I get the fact you clearly don't like Liverpool, but please do not let your hatred for us cloud just how good we use to be or the fact that between 2004-2009 Steven Gerrard was one of the best midfielders in the league.
I don't like Man U, but I would never claim that their dominance for the past 20 years was a fluke. They are were the bar is set in terms of winning leagues.
'Used to be'.
Thats the key thing. You were a good side, 20-30 years ago, you haven't been a top team for a while. 2005 and the season you finished 2nd you are a very average side compared to others and with the emergence of Man City and potentially Spurs you're going backwards.
Its your fans inability to see this that probably garners you so much hatred.

I think the the idea that the 2005 Champions League was a fluke for Liverpool is somewhat disproved by 2007 when they got to the final again.

To be fair, Europe was on a downslope in terms of quality between 2004-2007.

You have to say well done to the Scousers for those finals, but they are now are truly chronic team. Hilarious.

As i stated, you had a decent stint in the 70's and 80's, deservedly so, i dont take that away from you, though i dont necessarily agree about Stevie G being one of the best Midfielders in the league, he has carried Liverpool a lot of the time, and he has put in some world class performances, but he has also gone missing, cheated and done little for England (This applies to a lot of Players including Man Utd)
Im talking more currently, the club is in the worst state its been for decades, and only appears to be getting worse. Players like Suarez, and people like Dalglish make the club a laughing stock.
I dont for a second discount your history, but thats all it is. Doesnt appear to be making a comeback, but i stand by my assessment of your 2005 etc wins, they were a fluke.
While I think to call it a fluke to win club footballs most coveted prize a bit harsh the players involved were certainly never consistent to ever really challenge for the league. Terrible signings actually performed in this particular year (Champions League) at the right time but evidence is backed up as they have cleared the vast majority out pretty quickly and I think they were only really riding the wave as a lot of them knew this chance wasnt likely to come around again.

Scott clearly doesn’t like Liverpool ha ha.
I’d go with Liverpool too, same reasons as Scott but as they are a great rival of my beloved Man United at the OP says "other than your local rivals" I’d probably have to go with Leeds due to the racist, horrid bunch of fans.

I fully accept the fact we are no longer a decent team, that is why I said "use to be".
You have your opinion on Gerrard, I have mine, fair enough.
It seems Liverpool are the most hated club on these boards.

I don't think its just on these boards - I get the general impression that their name is mud in modern times.
I actually like Liverpool - but can see why a lot of people don't, and see a lot of the reasons cited as valid.

Re: Teams you love to hate
Nas, that could be due to some fan who are overly deluded. I know a few and they still seem to think they can still compete for the PL crown. Some will defend Dalglish till the cows come home over his transfer market buys and backing of Suarez, they do so purely because hes a club legend and ignore the real truth of it. This grinds my gears and I think it does with a lot of football fans.It seems Liverpool are the most hated club on these boards.
Also, Suarez has bought a lot of negativity onto the club who backed him in the lead up to being proved guilty. This did not have a good effect on the clubs image to the football world, fans and commercially.

They arent premier league clubs but Celtic and Rangers are vile clubs with awful fans and biggoted backrounds. Rangers in particular seem to cause trouble wherever they go and were run financially irregular cheating the system. Glad to see them in the situation they are now.
Cant stand Barcelona now either with their butter wouldnt melt superior attitude and how badly overrated they are because they play supposedly beautiful, superior football. Love watching them get knocked out in the Champions League and then whinge about other teams style of play!

United - I just cannot stand the arrogance surrounding the club and hate everything about Ferguson's attitude. Also the constant reminder that they have 'history' when I doubt they even know what it means.
Liverpool - This is mostly to do with the fans universal worship of the mostn over rated player in the Premiership, Steven Gerrard, he should be in prison for assault like anyone else would have been if they were clearly caught on CCTV.
QPR - Never have been and never will be a big club. There are few things that would make me happier than seeing them relegated.

Forgot to mention Barcelona, United may be arrogant but Barca are on a whole other level. They seem to think because they play football 'the right way' that they're entitled to win the Champions League every single year.

Very much agree with Reaper on Barca. I took pleasure in watching them get knocked out of the CL last year and moaning.
Also wasnt keen on how they operated in signing Cesc Fabregas.

Completely agree with Scott about Liverpool. That living off the past does my head in, I always want to punch Daglish whenever he appears on TV with his looking sympathy face,
I despise aswell Man U mainly because of my mate, he's never been to a Man U match ever, not even from Manchester either, hardly watches their games, yet brags about them. Other reasons are Gary Neville the most average lucky player of all time who just happened to play in very good teams, the elastic injury time at old trafford, the dearth of opposition penalties at old trafford, that big time Charlie attitude, Fergie in general and Howard Webb.

I know this is a bit controversial but as a Norwich fan for some reason I despise Swansea.
It is probably because they got all the plaudits last season, but yet we finished level on points, and we did the double over them.
Also hate QPR as well

But the thing was, while they played a so called 'better style' of football, we played much more entertaining stuff. We scored the most goals outside the Top 6, and conceded the most outside the bottom 3. Our games were mostly ones full with goals, and end to end action, yet because they play like Barcelona, everybody was kissing there arses

And also Rodgers has gone onto a bigger team than Lambert where as I think Lambert is a far superior manager, and has achieved a lot more at Norwich than what Rodgers did at Swansea. However because Rodgers plays 'better football' he got the bigger job than Lambert

QPR-Pretty much everything that's wrong with football at the moment.
West Ham-They won the world cup apparently. And Moose on talksport is an idiot of the highest order.
Spurs-For having Harry Redknapp and failing to recognise that he bottled it hugely last season.
And then finally, not a team, but the FA. First they take Hodgson, now they're taking Ashworth. Plunder someone else's club.

Re: Teams you love to hate
Howard Webb was the first ref who jumped into my head, any official at old trafford annoys me in one form or another by their dodgy style. Now I'm no Spurs fans, actually I don't like them much either with their over expectations and pretty football, and that 4-3 loss at Inter which everyone treats like a win. But they have had some really bad luck over the years at Man U due to incompetent officiating.
I'll chuck in West Ham to this hate thread aswell, first is when did West Ham ever have a good reputation of playing good football? How can you complain about the way your team plays when you get promoted. Two they aren't a big club, they just think they are because Bobby Moore played for them.
While not a club the thing I hate most in football is that moron Andy Townsend. Who wouldn't know a football if it hit him, with his stating the obvious and saying tell you what before anything.

Views on a couple of points made:
Liverpool:
As a utd fan I don't HATE Liverpool, I respect them massively and I always believe Utd-Liverpool will be the biggest fixture of the season. Their history is unrivaled and although Liverpool fans can dwell on their history, wouldn't you when you have 18 leagues and 5 European cups.
Barca:
Don't know where people get the views that Barca feel their 'entitled to win the champions league every year'. They have allot of respectable players (Apart from busquets) who are all very modest and good winners/losers. Again, apart from the time Inter beat them but they were denied a clear pen in the last second of the game to reach the final, and the sprinklers was not the players fault.

Olly, great point. You make a good argument. I don't know about the stats mentioned but I would agree with the 'better football' point.
Giz, fair enough, lot of people feel same was with refs at Old Trafford. I'm one of these who believes what goes around comes around. Moments at Old Trafford are highlighted & stick in peoples head more simply as its Old Trafford and Man United. People don't remember a ref error from 4 seasons ago involving say Wigan & Blackburn (just an example of teams).
Liam, how about Barca v Chelsea the other year when Chelsea were denied penalty after penalty?

Not Barca's fault they weren't given, and I'd say 1 was probably a definite pen, the other one's were questionable. But what has that got to do with apparently Barca feeling like they are entitled to a champions league win.

OK yes its upti ref to give them. So like any bog team when a decision goes against them they moan, surround the ref, Barca are terrible for this. As someone earlier they have that arrogance about them like "yes we play great football so give us a trophy". I don't recall them being sportsman like losers when. Chelsea knocked them out last season.

Re: Teams you love to hate
I'm surprised Chelsea haven't got more mentions to be honest.
Hate is a strong word to describe a club because when push comes to shove it's not the actual club people hate but those who are associated with it.
I can understand why people are not fans of Liverpool due to, as has been mentioned, the fans insisting on living on former glories. However with that being said I think most fans would do the same if they had the success Liverpool have had. The thing is out of all the teams in the Premier League the club probably have the richest history...through their success, the KOP, their European nights all the way to the terribly sad Hillsbrough events it is a club which is steeped in history and (last 3 years excluded) is what I would call a credit to English football. Again whilst Gerrard has his faults he eptomises everything Liverpool is....passionate & loyal, something which should be applauded more given the current state of affairs when it comes to modern day players....
Yes Wayne Rooney I'm looking at you!!
A club I truly cannot stand is Chelsea, due to the fact Man City have swept in and spent money like it's candy many people seem to have forgotten that not only did Chelsea do the same but they did so in a far more crass manner.
I don't like the fact that we have this era of billionaire eccentrics buying out clubs but at least City's owners are actually establishing the club. If you look at the model they have in place they are improving not only the club but also the City. The owners have begun development plans for housing around the local area, are in dicussions to open up a hotel as well as a Golf course and have put alot of money into community projects.
Roman was the creator of these ludicrous transfers sums and player wages. For me he created what I like to call the 'Candy Land' effect within this league...not only that but his treatment of managers is appalling, for a billionaire he really does lack class. Then their are the players....has their ever been a more disgusting collective group of players at a club?...
Drogba - Granted he is a fantastic footballer but his antics over the years are everything I hate about foreign players.
Terry - The less said about him the better but safe to say it is full of expletives and I would happily punch the arrogant twit if I ever got the opportunity.
Cole - World Class player....equally as World Class a p*i**!! Even before the gun incident, Cheryl saga etc he showed what he was about when he maneuvered his transfer to Chelsea...greedy bugger!
Torres - Purely down to his attitude....very gifted footballer but if things don't go his way he just sits and moans! Get off your arse and doing something about it. Anyone else noticed just how lazy he has become as well, the lad barely moves unless the ball is within 20 yards of the oppositions goal.
As a side note I actually like Arsenal and Wenger. Granted they can both be bloody frustrating, especially when Wenger goes on the moan but as a club you cannot fault them. They have built a brand new stadium and have paid for it the right way. He has built them from a high mid table side into a consistent Top 4 club who have had success and begin playing 'Beautiful football' long before Barcelona did.
They also have a wage structure and transfer structure which they adhere to. The club is run so well financially and that is a testament to Wenger because he has had money at times but chooses to spend it wisely. I actually hope the financial fair play rules are stuck to and UEFA don't allow loop holes etc to be found...because having studied them if they are put into place properly and no quarter is given then Arsenal could be one club who benefit majorly!

Is it even possible to live in the past? I'm a Liverpool fan and I'd love to go back 20 years! I encountered a grey hair today...
