First topic message reminder :
Surprised the isn't one yet.
In
Carzola
Giroud
Podolski
Out
Deadwood (exept Squilacchi and Chamakh)
RvP/Berba clone hopefully
I actually believe that Arsenal are stronger than last year. Carzola is a great buy for us. Giroud, although he hasn't scored yet makes terrific runs and in time will score 15+ per year.
Our defense has been tightened by Bould's astute style.
My prediction? Arsenal will end up 2nd behind City. UCL semi and win something (CO-Cup).

As long as he wasn't on huge wages...definitely. I think he gets a lot more flack than he deserves because of being taken to the World Cup at 16. Imagine Suarez with Sterling and Walcott either side of him, it'd be awesome.

Walcott isn't a winger!!!!
He has striker written all over hi, can't cross for toffee, has great finishing, yet people play him on the wing!

I'd have thought in a free of Sterling, Suarez, Walcott, he wouldn't be playing a conventional winger's role anyway, it'd be a rotating three.

Yes Reading are absolute dross, but that Santi really is looking a bit special. Would back him to get into any top 4 side probably.
Shows what happens when Wenger mans-up and spend some proper money.

Which makes it a tad odd that he creates a lot of assists and yet until this season hasnt scored that many goals ?
Its a complete myth he cant cross, Arsenals game...in fact most teams games these days apart from Stoke...isnt about hoiking hopeful balls into the area from the touchline, its all about finding the right pass in the final third of the pitch.

United still look best when they play with width and have the likes of Valencia putting dangerous balls into the box. Hasn't worked out too badly for them.

Re: Arsenal Thread
Exactly. Spend big on quality players and you'll reap the rewards. United do it, City do it, Chelsea do it, Arsenal go in at a slightly cheaper level and get second-rate players (Gervinho, Mertesacker etc).TopHat24/7 wrote:Shows what happens when Wenger mans-up and spend some proper money.
Keep Walcott, buy Llorente = a good January.
Guest- Guest
Re: Arsenal Thread
Llorente would be an excellent buy. He's available and won't anywhere near as much as he would have been last season or the year before. I think having Walcott playing just off him would be a deadly partnership. Llorente is fantastic in the air, deadly in front of goal and also has immense technical ability. Having Walcott playing in and around him could be the way to go.
Certainly need a right winger in my opinion. I know Nani is being talked about, and although Utd will want to get rid of him abroad, a decent offer will take him to Arsenal imo, considering you were kind enough to give us RVP. If not, maybe Gaitan for Benfica. He's quality imo, would love him at Utd to replace Nani when he eventually leaves.

Sagna--Konscienly--Vermalen--Gibbs
--------Arteta----Wilshere-----
Nani/Gaitan Carzola
Walcott
Llorente

Agreed Llorente looks superb and tailor made for the Prem. And just what Arsenal could do with. As much as I like Chicharito I'd even like him as United's 3rd striker.
Rooney>RVP>Llorente is a forward team that'll take you to the Prem trophy without a doubt.

Don't think we need anymore strikers but I agree, before RVP came I was always hoping we'd go for Llorente, someone different who would have really added something to our side. We need to focus on finding a new Scholes type player and a holding midfielder imo

Re: Arsenal Thread
many people laughed at united or city for going fo rhe carricks or the milners of this and paying so much for them.
at the end of the day just because there is a shortage of world class holding midfielders doesnt mean that a PL team can be successfull without one even if they are only good..

Re: Arsenal Thread
Can Arsenal get 4th? My earlier prediction based on the first 4 games looks to have been blown apart (as do many of my predictions). The defense doesn't look as astute as I thought. Wenger being tight with the purse strings appears short sighted. But 6th place and some scintillating football when on form suggests that the current squad is decent.
Spurs could implode again but they have more depth and AVB seems a very good manager. Who knows about Everton (credit to Moyes for getting them there on a shoestring budget). My fear is a resurgent Liverpool who are playing good football and the purchase of Sturrige seems a masterstroke. His partnership with Suarez seems to have some legs and Rogers is a class tactician.

Re: Arsenal Thread
Yeh, got that. But my point was the Spurs never even seemed in the running. And, given the precarious nature of their 4th position and desperate need for a striker they should really have pulled their fingers out on the wages front. Not like Juve would've offered crazy money.

4th looks like it'd be a very good result for Arsenal right now. Just too inconsistent.

I doubt we will make 4th. Spurs wont capitulate and Everton look strong. At their best Arsenal play the best football in the EPL.

Re: Arsenal Thread
I think Arsenal will finish 5th, I can see us having a good run of games and just picking Everton to it, but I can't see us getting 4th; Spurs are too strong and we've been far too inconsistent to earn 4th. I'm really fed up with Wenger at the moment, his body language annoys me and he's also so diplomatic in interviews; he doesn't project the heart and desire to win the Premier League or any trophy for that matter.

Re: Arsenal Thread
Unfortunately when 'at their best' only lasts a portion of games you're never going to break into the CL when the league is so strong now. 5th would be a sensible prediction, just too much quality to only get 6th and I fear Everton might succumb to some injuries and lack the depth to get by without key players.

Well Everton are still in it. If Arsenal win tonight then its a run off between the London 3 with Spurs being the outsiders.
Bet AVB wishes he hadn't said that Arsenal were on the down slide after the NLD.

Got to give credit to Everton this season, they are still well with in of a shout of the top 4. They seem to have kept there form up through out the campaign. A draw tonight wouldnt be the worst result in the world. But they dont seem to have a good record against Arsenal.

Shame to see Spurs throwing it all away (again). Arsenal have been poor most of the season and haven't deserved to usurp Spurs, even if they do technically manage it.

By the high standards Arsenal have set themselves over the years, yes we have been poor. But when it matters, we pull out results although not against the top 4 contenders. An average season by our standards.

Sad to see Arsenal's decline really. They're now celebrating finishing above Spurs, when years ago that would have been taken for granted. Bit similar to Liverpool trying to finish above Everton!

It's more finishing above Spurs then 4th, They've had their best ever year yet they still finish below and come up with many excuses including the following
Bayern Munich for beating Arsenal 2-0 and giving them a kick start
Billionaires ruining football
Referee in the Arsenal v Norwich match
Newcastle not trying hard enough
Referees plotting against them
With us having a net spend of 9m in 10 years we came up with a new game since we couldn't compete with the likes of United/Chelsea/Citeh - See how far we can let Spurs get ahead then snatch it away for Poopie and giggles
