Madden NFL 13
Has anybody purchased this game, and is it good?
I have played the demo and it seemed awesome, but just a bit apprehensive to buy the game as yet

Having not played 12
You actually have to scout prospects, else you end up with a size/production rating
rather than assuming control of a franchise you assume the persona of a coach, can be fired etc.
Gain experience, which can be spent to improve players etc.
Pretty good fake twitter feed which keeps you up to date with news

The scouting of prospects was in 12, but the rest is new!
And the persona of a coach is pretty cool, seems like I might have to buy this!

I don't want to be fired! Usually I have a couple of seasons to adjust to difficulties, and generally they are losing ones, so I don't want to get booted out really early.
Franchise mode on 12 was fantastic, but I did get to season 17 so I think I'm ready to make the switch to 2013. It's just whether I get this and Fifa, or I have to pick one.

Re: Madden NFL 13
Finally got this last night, and it looks very different from last year on the career mode. I actually turned off firings, because I don't want to be fired! I want to play out with the Raiders and see where I get to, and I imagine while I'm learning there may be a losing season or two.
Gameplay wise, I notice everything is faster, and players move more in line with how fast they actually are (linemen for instance aren't barrelling after the QB with the same sprinter speed!). It takes a small adjustment period for me, because it feels like you've less time to pick your receiver, but it'll settle down I'm sure.
I like the new pump fake to a receiver option, and I'll get more use of that to see if it can get a receiver open. Seems like you've got far more chance of making a play after the catch too now, rather than every tackle taking you out and every receiver being tightly covered.

I find that you rarely get fired Soddy.
I started a career as Browns coach, 1st season my target was to get 6 wins, and I ended up 3-13 but still didnt get fired!

Yeah I always remember his name being associated with the game. Way back to the long hot summer of 95 or whenever it was it started.
Wonder how much he earns, given that I assume he contributes nothing?

Re: Madden NFL 13
Started a franchise with Oakland, on pro to begin with. I've won 3/3 but they've all been close so far. Think I may have to up it to All-Pro anyway because I don't want to get a late draft pick with all the holes on my team!
I've made two odd decisions though. I'm starting Terelle Pryor at QB because he is ridiculously fast and when it breaks down I can make him run for it. He isn't much of a passer, but when I started Palmer in the third game, he went 2/6 with 2 picks and we were 17-0 down. Pryor led us to a 4th quarter win...
I have Van Dyke at corner too. My secondary is pretty much all garbage, so I may as well have super-fast garbage.

Re: Madden NFL 13
DVD has actually been comfortably my best player all season on D! He has 4 picks, and 9 broken up passes and if someone breaks free in the backfield he is too quick to get beaten.
I upped the difficulty level to all-pro after going 3-0 and I'm now 10-1. It seems like a much easier game to get into and pass in this year, which is a good thing. Terelle Pryor is still in at QB - and he has a rating of 58 Thing is, whenever I feel like I've had enough of his ineptness, he runs in a TD, makes an insane long throw, or drags us back in the 4th quarter.
I will now not get much of a draft pick though, so are there any tricks to finding hidden gems like the "potential" glitch from 12?

I should try the scouting out a bit more then. I've not touched it yet.
You know you can manually progress players? Do they only improve via manual progression and applying XP to them? Or do they improve over the off-season too, like past Maddens have?

Won the SB in season 3. Might become a problem soon, because I need to upgrade some areas and I keep getting last pick! Won't last if I can't upgrade of course.
One thing I notice, I've never had my QB be the MVP of the superbowl, on this one or 12.
My QBs stat line last night was:
17/19 --- 203 yds --- 2 TDs --- 0 ints
2 rushes --- 8 yds --- 2 TDs
And he STILL wasn't MVP! It went to McClain who had 1 int, returned for a TD. Makes zero sense to me.

They usually give the MVP to a defensive player if they score a TD for some reason beyond me!
I have won the SB with the Pats 3 years in a row now, after 3 years of not making the playoffs when Brady retired, I built up some picks and now have a great roster. I had 5 first round picks in the last draft
Cap space is becoming a big problem now though

Re: Madden NFL 13
It seems to be the case, but come on, my QB carried us in that game! Let's ignore his 56.3 passer rating through the regular season...I think I've worked him out now. Throw short with like 1 or 2 big pass plays.
I've done 3 in a row now too. I upped the difficulty to All Madden and I was expecting a bunch of trashings but it seems ok. A lot of closer games and my defense to thank for wins though.
I have an extra 3rd round pick for the draft for trading away Palmer. I might try and stockpile them as you did. I need a pass rushing LE and possibly a linebacker. And quite a lot on the O-Line...

What I tried to do is build through short term free agent signings for a couple of years, to keep up the good play with veterans who are decent. And because of this I traded away a lot of picks, and you do end up with millions of them if you trade well. Then 2-3 years down the road when the veterans retired, I started using some of those stockpiled picks as well as keeping up some stockpiled for later years as well!
Finding a QB after Brady was tough though. I took 2 in the draft and they were both busts, but I have found my guy now. He is only going to be rated around the 90 mark but he is solid enough for me. I have a proper mean D

Re: Madden NFL 13
I've got a QB rated currently at 80. He's only 20 though, and he has 90 speed. It's his throwing which is sometimes off, but short is 80, medium 77, and long 80, so I can work with him. Took me ages on 12 to get a decent QB in the draft, so I hope he works out!
My biggest issue coming up in replacing McFadden. He turns 28 next season and he's backed up by Woodhead and Jones. I'd need another star back to come in badly.

I find that if I have a QB with speed I always try to scramble from the pocket and make silly throws. So I have a pocket passer to restrain myself lol.
I started a career mode with RG3 and I just ended up running on every down

Re: Madden NFL 13
I used to do that with Pryor, but then I had to because the man can't throw...
It's useful in the redzone, especially inside the 5. A PA pass, and then run to the side of least resistance - seems to work most times.
I get what you mean though. Sometimes I will not even bother to look at receivers, and try and run regardless before getting hit and fumbling. I've had to learn to slide down because QBs really can't hold the ball!

I find that what I do is get outside the pocket and try to set my feet and throw the big one down the field every play. I try to let my receivers break there routes off and go free!
On a more serious career note I have found that having a top top TE is really useful. I usually target mine 10+ times a game, and they can really give you that safety blanket over the middle

Re: Madden NFL 13
Yeah a TE is high on my list of wants. At the moment I have Fasano, but I'd still like to upgrade on him.
On 12, I drafted my franchise QB and TE in the same draft and they both ended up as 95+ overall. They were mental, I knew I could throw any ball to him and he'd make a play.
My WRs are pretty good at the moment though, so I'm probably going to look at other areas first. I have Manningham, DHB, and Moore, and I know if I can draw the safeties and corners up close to the line that I can hit a big play to one of the speedsters.

My defence is just so good at the moment. I am solid on offence, but it is my defence that wins me games. All of my defensive line are 90+ players so I can get pressure even when I'm only rushing 3/4 players. I pretty much rely on pressure as my CB's suck but I blitz a lot so can get big plays from that

Re: Madden NFL 13
I tend to blitz only when I'm sure it's a run, or when it's a long 3rd down.
My defensive line isn't great really, I like to rush off the left end and he's painfully slow so I will be using a draft pick on a really fast one. My DTs are getting on too, so soon I will need to really upgrade the whole thing.
My CBs and safeties are the game winners. I have Vontae Davis and DVD back there and I get so many picks out of them. DVD really develops into a good player if you give him a starters role, and he is mental fast.

I find myself blitzing pretty much every down unless it's third and long then I just sit in zone coverage and try to keep them to a short gain.
I do find All-Madden level on this years one can be a little easy at times compared to last years. I mean I managed to take Jacksonville to the AFC Championship game when I did a player career and was the QB on All-Madden

I thought it was a little easier too, in fact there is little discernible difference between all-pro and all-madden I find. Last year there was a much bigger step up!

Great corners are hard to come by but you can pick up decent ones in the mid-80s in the draft easily.
I am a terrible QB. I throw a shed load of picks each season and I win games on defense and because Darren McFadden is super-rated on the game. He's 32 now though, so I figure I best draft someone pretty good soon!

And while I remember, if you want a good scouting tip/trick:
Scout awareness as a first step. If it's B or A they are almost always good players. Then scout other attributes as you wish, but specifically development.

Re: Madden NFL 13
Use the awareness trick, honestly
I have used it on my last three drafts and it works great. Most players from round 3 down have "F" ratings so you can easily pick out the hidden gems down there. Just make sure you check their development too, it has to be at least 2 or 3 to be worth it!
