Is Dawson referring to Henson?

"a certain Welsh player of notoriety" - I guess he means Henson right
Why did he even have to hint at who it was? Muppet.

I agree it was a muppet comment but Daws is a bit of a mupp
What was most irritating is that he suggested that just because he didn't know the score he was somehow at fault and it was an illustration of his notoriety when it was well documented that it was the management that destroyed the lions as a unit that tour
I for one wish GH could get a break both from injury, notoriety and the press and be allowed to play riugby.

Mowgli, I always thought Henson was an absolute top notch player in his prime. But he really didnt help himself getting in to trouble so much...going on that dating programme etc...he created his own bad press...which is a shame.

I completely agree and he is the master of his own shio but I also think he has been put under the microscope both on and off the pitch. All I want is for the guy to be allowed to play rugby and have the guidance he needs to deal with his celebrity status. It woudl be awesome to see an ounce of his former potential realised....no player i have ever seen apart from perhaps Guscott, looks so classy in possession and has so much time on the ball

Re: Is Dawson referring to Henson?
Come on it should't be surprising that Henson didn't know the score.
Mowgli Henson only has himself to blame. If Henson wants to not be hounded by the press he needs to stop going on reality tv shows, abusing people when drunk etc. If he wants advice he has had plenty of opportunities. Especially when he was at Toulon he could have spoken to Sir Johnny about the media limelight
Look at Ashton - he's a supposedly a bad boy but he's knuckled down and 3 tries in two games for his new club so far is a good haul. He's worked hard and reaping the benefits.
The way Henson is going to get out of the massive crater he has dug himself is to knuckle down. Do the hard graft for London Welsh and he'll win respect.

Henson is not that good at getting on with his team mates. For wales back in '06 when he was selected to play fullback (against ireland?) he was mocking team mate Barry Davies in the team hotel pointing out htat he (henson) was not even a fullback but was better than Davies. Then there was the whole issue with his book. According to some sarries fans, Henson was not even aware of all of his team mates first names. At Toulon he had a few words exchanged with Wilkinson and others about how good Henson was in comparision to them.
So yeh why did Dawson need to hint, we all knew who he was on about without any hints.
(p.s. Dawson is not my favourite person, I think he is a grand A tool.)

I love Dawson.
Even now he still has the ability to wind up fans of certain nations just like he did when he was playing.
Brilliant

I presumed it was Dwayne Peel that Dawson was referring too... Who had taken Dawson's spot as the starting number nine...?

I like both Healey and Dawson. Both gobby so and so's but very interesting.
I actually think Healey's a pretty good pundit on ESPN.
The ESPN punditry is better than most of the rubbish you get on Sky,BBC,ITV etc.

I find it remarkable how English fans have such a love of players like Dawson, Healey, Dallaglio, Hartley, Ashton who everyone considers "gobby so and so's" when the rest of the rugby world might admire their playing skill and talent but as pundits, columnists and personalities we wouldn't give them the slightest bit of our attention.

A day of surprises is in store as I find agreement with Hersh!
Dawson has matured a lot and his wind up factor is small. Healey is still a **** and is one of very few people on this planet that I would happily slap with no provocation.

None of us are angels ( I lost my wings a long time ago) but we all have personal preferences.
So, a choice between em.............. excruciatingly 'funny' Mat from that super show of chringe inducing forced jollity Question of Sport and Mr foot-in-mouth Henson?
Well, I'm afraid it would be Henson all the time. He doesn't try to fit in, he's not PC: so he looked disinterested in the lift, so what? A lift isn't a very interesting place to be when you're stuck with people you mightn't like. Yep, I'd expect to have more fun with Mr self-destructive Henson.

That was my number two guess...rugbydreamer wrote:How do we know he wasn't referring to Alfie?
Firstly I would have said it was Dwayne Peel winding Dawson up and Dawson is too thick to realise when someone is taking the mick. But could have been Alfie doing similar. Or maybe Geth just being himself.

When teams start relying on ehtereal concepts such as "unity" you know they have no chance. If you have dominant ruck, infalible lineout, solid scrum, smart pivots and lightening strong backs you don't need all this left field cuddly waffle. Success begets team spirit. Nothing else.

Absolutely correct, pain. Psychobable is for lifts when the air gets overly misty. It tends to distract a little from the embarrassment if The Theory of Winning with Hugs and Back Slaps gets debated.
On a sidenote though - I don't think I've asked you before and I certainly haven't seen it around, but what side do you support? Club and Country? If you want to divulge, that is.

Re: Is Dawson referring to Henson?
Maestegmafia have you actually met any of these guys?
I had a brief chat with Henson at Saracens. He seemed a bit boring and mopy actually.
Ashton gets bad press IMO. His splash has been blown totally out of proportion. It is meant to be a bit of harmless fun from a quality winger. I'll probably get the opportunity to chat with him at some point. I'll give you my thoughts.
I agree that the likes of Dallaglio,Healey and Dawson are walking talking egos but they do generally know what they are talking about.
Certainly Healey anyway in regards to analysing rugby matches.

Re: Is Dawson referring to Henson?
Dawson wasn't so much having a dig at the player - rather pointing out that there was a big disconnect between weekend and midweek teams.
The management of both the 2001 and 2005 tours was shockingly bad.

i have met all 3.
Healey is a little gobshite, but most of it is put on to get a reaction (or now to help sell ESPN - which is after all his job now). I wish he had gone into coaching though - as an attack or a skills coach. His ability to understand the rythm of the game and to teach kids how to play the game and have fun was truly impressive. His public persona means he will never be fairly credited for the ability nor performances he had. that he gets blamed for the Lions losingthe 2001 series is laughable. Ok he broke the contract and was rightly punished, but Harriosn deserved a worse name than "plank". his fould play (deliberatly kneeing Healey long after he had scored ruled him out of a test spot - it was pathetic and cowardly). That SCW/RFU further punished him by omitting him from the RWC 2003 squad sums up RFU blazers.
Dawson, was a bit dull, but a pleasant enough "mummys boy".

Hersh would like to think he is in the Healey league of banter (my favourite Healey WUM is his renaming of Andy Goode to Andy Food) however he is most definitely in the useless toolbox with Lols and Dawson!

Yeah he was Tiger, he was laying blame for that disconnect at the player's door when it was SCW and his minions like Campbell who wrecked the camp by creating a two tier tour

Never ask AWOP what side he supports - he disappears from the thread altogether.
Well, never ask him unless you want to get rid of him, I guess.

Quite an understandable question from Henson.
One can only imagine the players waking up the next morning, and wondering as to whether it was just a dream that the Lions had managed to beat Auckland the night before.
