The Cigar Lounge: General conversation.
First topic message reminder :
Due to some requests we are opening a General Conversation thread for the rugby posters.
Here you are welcome to talk about world affairs, current news and general jibber jabba you want to discuss with your fellow rugbynites.
It is however imperitave that you respect all other opinions and views. This thread will be strictly monitored for any personal attacks and/or disrespectful and unacceptable behaviour.
Because of some of the subject matter that may come up from time to time, please think before you post. Debate the point of vew and don't attack the poster.
No Anglo-Welsh bickering, no my dad is bigger than your dad (mine is the biggest and that's the end of it. )
No who can spit further than who (I can show you it is me, but then you'll all just become envious. )
Admin has approved this for a trial period, so it is up to you guys whether it stays or not.
So pull up a chair, Geeves will bring your Newspaper, a cigar of your choice and a tumbler of you favourite single malt whiskey or the cognac of our choice.

As I said a while back (but shouldn't be too hard to find as not much gets said here!) but I was saying I actually met the guy who wanted this room up, and a few of us gave him suggestions and the Mods acquiesced...and he's never put his foot in the door. What a waste of a prime location just around the corner from that den of Depravity, the pub.

Fly,
These random virtual franchises never catch on. The Glaws Pub is a good idea. As is the Bath one. All clubs should have their own Clubhouse.
The Dew Drop Inn is for lost, free souls, of all persuasions. Looking for empathy in a virtual desert of blind indifference.
They rarely get it, but the pint is cheap.

You have the way with the words, Gibbo...and you're selling it to me. Indifference is chill my bones would like but............. I'll stick to begging in the 606 streets for now. I'm a hobbo. Wouldn't like to inflict my scent on the clientelle of yon drinkery.

A hobbo? Is that a reformed yobbo? Now turned Hippy? Gibbo has that effect on people...he could start his own commune...

Re: The Cigar Lounge: General conversation.
Hobbos don't like communes................ they see a jacket they like there and it's on their back in an instant. And of course that means a fight breaks out; and that in turn means the 'Hippie' in the Hobbo is exposed as a fraud. The unHippie Hobbo gets kicked out and that in turn kills the fantasy of the peace-and love-and understanding Hippie commune.
No, I think Gibbo would be making a big mistake allowing a reformed Yobbo into his Hendrix and Grass Collective. Peace out, dudes

Just nicked in to grab a free and a Jemmy(no ice or water tanks)
That Dive across the road is gone to rack & ruin. This place is dead.
But, its in a better location. We could run a whorehouse upstairs. Coffeeshop downstairs. Tattoo-shop on the ground-floor. I see a business opportunity here.
The possibilities are endless. But NO Irish right?

Rav, how did the local derby go? Your guys win?
Actually just saw you posted the score in the Pub - the 20-20 scoreline suggests it was a close contest.

Nope, but willing to give you advice. Where to start?
Probably by learning the fundamentals of music theory and how they relate to the guitar.
Scales. Practicing them will build technique, learning them will build knowledge. Scales every day. Most important thing.
Once you understand how that works its easier to put it all together. In terms of technique focus on learning good habits from the start because the bad ones will stick- to be honest, recommend getting lessons or learning from a book because the quality of guitar lessons on youtube is so variable and you don't know what your getting...

Re: The Cigar Lounge: General conversation.
I learnt how to play guitar from a book (just the chords, more or less). Then I'd listen to a song and work out the chords. The trick then is being able to change from one chord to the next quickly enough - but it's great when you manage that breakthrough. After that, you're away.
N.B. Learning how to play lead guitar would be a different matter.

Dont over complicate things. Learn 4 chords - G, D, C and F.
If you learn those 6 chords you can play a large selection of songs that will do nicely for parties and singalongs.
Get started on those 4 chords and work from there.
Re: The Cigar Lounge: General conversation.
I started learning how to play the guitar 15 months ago, it ain't that hard.
As long as you put in the hours, you'll learn quickly.

Re: The Cigar Lounge: General conversation.
Crunch! "You b*****d, that was sore!"
I don't wanna play no more.
The broken nose, the knackered hinges,
The raucous songs, the drinking binges.
But headaches go and bones they heal,
This game just makes me feel so real.
The hit, the pass, the kick, the try,
It’s useless I can't bloody lie.
I love the game it’s just the best,
No prima donnas like the rest.
Just good hard blokes having fun,
Christ, you don't even have to run!
A game for all from short and fat,
To lanky streaks, now fancy that!
A game for young, a game for old,
And in the bar the stories told.
Of long distance tries and massive kicks,
That went sailing through upright sticks.
The greatest sport for one and all
Is Rugby Union, not football!

Check out Marty Friedmans stuff on YouTube. One Of the worlds most awesome guitarists but also an amazingly lucid instructor who starts from "everything you are afraid to ask" level through "how to solo like a rock god without knowing any music theory" all the way to knowing your Dorian from your myxalodian scales.
Best advice ever is get a decent electronic tuner and never play unless you are 100% tuned up, once your ear gets trained to hear bum tuning it's very hard to remedy.

I'd love to have a drum kit. I used to play bass in a band and sometimes I'd switch to drums when we were jamming. Great fun.

Blimey, no one been in here for nigh on 3 weeks? Right...I've installed a few classic arcade machines. R-Type, double dragon and Mortal kombat. re-stocked the fridge (3 crates for £18) and put up some posters of Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Winslet to give the place some class.

Breadvan wrote:My lads getting a drum kit for Christmas... why.......
I know!
There are two obvious reasons for this, and if you don't mind being Watson to my Holmes, I shall explain in the most elementary of fashions:
In the first instance, you clearly have sufficient room in your house to accomodate a drum kit, call me a terwat at your leisure Breadvan, but that's just poor allocation of living space on your behalf.
In the second instance, and I'm guessing here (to be fair), you've never actually said to the person that's buying your lad a drum kit for Christmas: "If you ever dream of buying him a drum kit, stab yourself awake with a spoon and call me immediately to apologise and hope I'm in a forgiving mood." Have you?
No?
Well there's just two reasons why, there could be many more, but those two seem the most elementary...
You're welcome of course.
