The official ryder cup thread.....
First topic message reminder :
or at least what it should look like if we ignore the over hyped nature of the event;
The Ryder cup will be contested over Medinah country clubs number 3 course where Tiger Woods has won two of his four PGA championships. This is a rather odd choice of venue for a nation so patriotic like America, as the clubhouse is styled on the headquarters of the terrorists. And we know how much the terrorists hate America, and vice versa? The fans won’t know whether to watch the golf or build bunkers in their back gardens. The invasion has started!
We can only hope however, that the importance of golf’s second biggest team exhibition match – the most important being the Tavistock – is not overshadowed by such politics. Although, politics are set to overshadow the performance of one British player competing this week. The finest golfer in all of the Queens land is set to declare his nationality as Greek, in the hope he will not have to compete in this Mickey Mouse event next time around.
The captains have only very inconsequential decisions to make during the week yet one of them has already arsed it up. Ollie has decided that wearing orange was the only way to stop young Rory defecting. The reasoning of course being that Rory will be supporting the Florida gators after he switches to the US full time.
The only other influence the captains have on the outcome of the match is in their decision of golf buggy driving style. The manner in which they and their VC’s maneuver the buggy around the course can set the tone for the way the team plays. At least I assume that’s what they are doing, as there is no other logical reason for driving around like a headless chicken trying to use a walkie talkie.
What the vice captains do when not trying to drive like a peacock would dance with its plumage is all a little vague. I wonder if they provide protection from the Ryder cup troll, aka monty. Any player suffering the misfortune of hearing this beast, which is so excitable around Ryder cup season, may never make sense of anything ever again.
I guess we cant forget that somehow this buffoon managed to win the thing, proving the ceremonial nature of the captains position. But who will win this time?
The yanks are likely to be spooked playing in the shadows of a minaret but the Europeans will have to cope with the only thing more vacuous than westwood, monty’s and Donald’s major trophy cabinets combined……. Paul McGinley. Have you ever heard the fool witter on during the sky coverage?
The deciding factor will of course be, something that would require more wasted thought on this over bloated charity for majorless European golfers.
There we have it, they level of seriousness with which you should view this event unless you are a man boobed fake Scottish bloke with a huge whole in your CV.

The fact that a guy has a high profile girlfriend may well be an indicator that he is gay, happens a lot in the TV and film world. A PR marriage of convenience.
Hadn't thought of that. Does that mean she is too?

Eh nothing. The Welsh rugby players sometimes do stupid things and bring the cool factor down, particularly Henson.

I personally think Luke Donald is pretty cool, certainly dresses pretty well.
John Daly and Greg Norman not so much for me. Freddie Jacobsen seems like a bit of a dude.

So what are those posting on this thread doing this evening? I am guessing if you are posting here you are not interested in the Ryder cup, just like me.
I think i might revisit season 2 of glee before i get the season 3 box set.

Looks like we'll be stuck at 2-2 barring a big choke from Poults and Rose.
McDowell/McIlroy stealing the last could be crucial

Huge win for the Irish boys,, it look like a stroll in the park when they were three up but the momentum in match play and change so quickly.
And Schnedeker's tee shot on 18 will haunt him the next time he tees it up.

7 birdies though, so one can only hope the us birdies will dry up and the europeans will start coming. Nice ones from Colsaerts on 2 for the half and then Rose on 1 to get some blue on the board!

The walrus
There is nothing cool about Watson.
He has a stupid name.
Has a mullet
Is a redneck hick.
Makes himself look an uncultured imbecile talking about France
Dresses appallingly.
Wears a woman's visor
and is a god botherer.
What is cool about that?
Also, the walrus. Craig Stadler? Come on.

Re: The official ryder cup thread.....
GMac/McIlroy played terribly in the foursomes. Just lucky Woods/Stricker played worse. In hindsight they shouldn't have been played in the fourballs, as they also played dodgy there.

Lawrie/Hanson
-------------------
WTF you don't send out two steady eddie types on a course made for birdies!!!!!!!
Should be partnered with adventurous types...to play the anchor role...
No Poulter?????
need big players on the first day to set the scene..

lawrie actually had a pretty good score (probably about -1/2), but hanson contributed nothing.

And Rose with Kaymer? You don't put C3P0 to play with your grandma, especially when he can't hole 3 footers to win holes.

Re: The official ryder cup thread.....
A lot resting on your rookie's shoulders....
The way Westwood has played i'd be inclined to leave him out..
He's not turned up..
Colseart's has to keep the US out..
.5.5 - 2.5 or 6-2.....
I think it's over...you need parity to go into the singles...
My piece on Lawrie, Hanson and Molinari...still holds true..

Re: The official ryder cup thread.....
You didn't mention Hanson once in your article, and your main point was that Colsaerts wasn't good enough and wouldn't cope.
I'm not sure you can call your thread particularly accurate (so far) considering Lawrie didn't play that badly.
The whole 'needing parity going into the singles' thing only rang true when the sheer individual class between the two teams was so great (until only recently, Europe had a number of players well outside the top 100 in the world). Nowadays the teams are man for man a lot closer, and anything can happen in the singles.
