It's safe to say Raúl Albiol has seen better days at Real Madrid. The former Valencia defender has only featured five times since the season got underway and was less than chuffed to be lumbered with a place at right-back in his latest outing, against Alcoy. "This is going to be a real drag" he told his camp before kick-off.

Albiol feels like he is being put under the microscope on the rare occasion when he is involved. And when he does get a look-in, it is either because of an injury to a teammate – he only played against Valencia, Barça and Getafe because Pepe was sidelined – or out of position – he came on for Xabi Alonso for the last few minutes against Mallorca.

"It's not fair that when I finally get a game I get stuck at full-back", the Spain international is believed to have complained. Mourinho's latest team selections seem to make Albiol the club's fifth-choice centre-back. Varane and Carvalho lined up at the heart of defence at El Collao, while Albiol was literally shunted to the side. He hasn't played in his natural position since the away match in Getafe on 26th August.

Wednesday's turn of events was a real blow. After more than two months out of the starting line-up, Albiol expected to be given a chance to stake his claim alongside Varane. So much so that, when the coach read out the team sheet, the ex-Valencia stalwart was unable to hide his disappointment.

Jese/Deulofeu I was seeing as back up to Tello/Calejon/Soldado so would be wanting to use backup players to get them in
