Why has no one put together a seniors Ryder cup ?

Re: Seniors Ryder cup
Because Europe would get trounced.
Do you remember the "Chrysler Cup" from about 20 years ago? USA Seniors vs Rest Of The World - USA always won very easily, though it might be closer now.
USA vs Europe would be a demolition though.

Nop , dont recall the chrysler cup ..
but surely now with non US winners of the senior majors, a ROW would put up a good show ?
Norman , Faldo , Chapman , Lyle , Woosnam ..
shorlty Montgomerie, olazabal .. to name but a few...
they could even turn it into a more relaxed 'fun' event where they put on a show.

Surely a better question is why does any seniors golf get so much coverage ?

Re: Seniors Ryder cup
busted,
Apart from Chapman and Montgomerie (and Langer and Lane), the other guys are not really playing competitive golf any more.
Norman is just ceremonial, Faldo scarcely plays, Lyle is uncompetitive on the Champions Tour and Woosie seldom seems to be trying. You may not follow the Champions Tour, but the top guys out there are still playing top class golf (including Langer): Couples, Perry, Lehman, Cook, Calc, Funk etc.
Best ROW Seniors are Langer, Peter Senior, Frost and Nick Price (injured right now) though obviously Roger Chapman has enjoyed a couple of dream trips to Michigan.
You are looking at past Euro glories and our heroes of the 80's are just not doing it any more.

In a few years time I guess Vijay and M-A J could produce some decent senior golf.
But hey, I'd reather watch Champions League than Euro League (or whatever it's called).

You're right about that pedro, Steve Elkington crossing over in a month or two also. A good crop of golfers turning 50 over the next 18 months, even Rocco Mediate this December.

Re: Seniors Ryder cup
I've never watched a seniors event on TV (dspite the fact that I Fred Couples), but they're a lot of fun to watch in person. Small crowds, you get pretty close to all the players -- different atmosphere from the young guys.

Agree Plunky,
Fun live and I watch them on TV too, often more interesting than the "regular' Tour especially when forgotten men break through, such as Chapman and Willie Wood.
It may sometimes look like Big Break Senior (not that I've ever watched BB), but entertaining.

Re: Seniors Ryder cup
We enjoy Big Break (only reality TV show that we watch) and then root for the competitors afterwards if they make it to the big leagues. Unfortunately sometimes they select contestants for their attitude/personality rather than for their golf and then it can be annoying. Tommy Gainey, Kristy MacPherson and Gerina Piller were all on the show at one time or another, not to mention Snedeker's brother and Kaymer's girlfriend !
