If you ask the comentators they'll say no because he wasn't driven into the ground...

I think what helped him was he held onto the legs and made no downward movement but every time I saw it on the replay it looked worse.

I don't think it was a tip tackle, he got hold of both legs which meant Bekker's momentum did the rest.

Re: Was It A Tip Tackle?
He went past the 90 so its a tip tackle. Bekker's little flip to try to get up afterward made it look worse. I thought that was very clever of him.
I think it was Bekker that cleaned McCaw out of a ruck but did it by pulling him into the SA side that earned them a penalty too. Very smart rugby I thought.

I think if we go by the letter of the law, then indeed it was a tip tackle. However, the referee used his discretion, realised there was no downward movement and Bekker's own momentum (as said above) took him through to the ground. Clearly, the right decision as no player protested, or appeared to notice.

SANZAR have decided it should have been a yellow http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/all-blacks/7783765/Brodie-Retallick-receives-belated-yellow-card

Re: Was It A Tip Tackle?
I suppose the all Blacks will now fly back, so we can replay those ten minutes?

Huh, who knew you could get a yellow after the game? Probably deserved a YC by the letter of the law, defo not a red. There's been many an incident that receive nothing during or after the game, why this one?
Biltong, maybe we can donate 7 points to the official score line as offset compensation.

Re: Was It A Tip Tackle?
It's OK, EBOP, we were finely beaten by a better team. I just think it is ridiculous to give a yellow card (even belatedly) for such a tackle.
There was no pile drive, no arms under Bekker's hips or centre of gravity to do a tip tackle, he got Bekker's ankles, took it out from under him, Bekker did a somersault like dive to the ground and this is what we get.
Pathetic.

Re: Was It A Tip Tackle?
For me a tip tackle is when you have an arm under the player's hips which means you can lift the player and then roll your shoulders over to tip him, when you have the play by his knees or under, how does that become a tip tackle?

What does this mean. now the match is long over?Pete C (Kiwireddevil) wrote:SANZAR have decided it should have been a yellow http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/all-blacks/7783765/Brodie-Retallick-receives-belated-yellow-card
Greater possibility of punishment in the future?
Permanent record stuff, what ever impact that has?
Or sit the first ten minutes of the flight up north for the AIs?

Nice try doc
With the tip tackle, is it more the tip turning into a spear that's the issue?

Rw each incident on its own merit. This was quite different, and against a more robust Springbok rather than a girly blouse of a Frenchman.

Re: Was It A Tip Tackle?
I think Retallick already served out the yellow card. He was made to sit facing the corner in business class for 10 minutes with no beverage whilst the others drank themselves silly. Nonu took advantage and gave him a wedgy and this is being reviewed by the judiciary when they land as the flight attendant gave him a white card.
