Deans outlasts John O'Neill
Ok, I admit it.
I didn't see that coming.
Not even one little bit.

I didn't see it coming either but a lot of punters in Aus have been calling for it for a while now. It will be interesting to see what happens with Dingo now he doesn't have his one-man cheer squad any more. Given what Richie's said in his book about Deans' coaching style and that every second person who's ever worked with Dingo says he's very authoritarian I doubt he'll fall on his sword in the same fashion as JON.

To be fair O'Neill has his fingers in many pies, Deans not.

Re: Deans outlasts John O'Neill
"ARU deputy chief executive Matt Carroll will act as caretaker CEO while a global search is conducted for his long-term replacement."
So, either he's jumped to avoid a scandall, or he's been pushed out in a hurry. There's a story behind this story and I personally am intrigued by it.
I wonder what will become of the annual Sydney "Bledisloe Festival" that was his vision? Will Australia now get a decent second tier club competition to feed into SXV? Will Robbie Deans get to pick his own assistants?
It seems there is a conflict of interest between a CEO of ARU being also the Chair of "Brand Sydney", especially in relation to the deal to organise a perpetual annual Sydney Bledisloe tournament. Is this the smoke that leads to the gun?
Will it emerge that he did after all order the Wallabies to lose the 2003 final in extra time to an orchestrated drop goal from Jonny Wilkinson? It always seemed to me that the blaring "Swing Low" and rain of England flavoured tickertape was just slightly too on cue. And certainly there were rumours of some murky financial activity around the owner of a Casino giant.

Man i'd love that. The only thing that could possible beat winning a World Cup in another country , especially Oz, is the thought that the home fans were screwed over by their own. Mwahahaha.
Conspiracy theories aside, pretty interesting development. I'm going to enjoy this one I think

Re: Deans outlasts John O'Neill
O'Neill was Deans' biggest supporter. So his move may well have been aided by the knowledge that Deans' time was up. I doubt Deans now will outlast the year. Which begs the question what will he do then? And who looks after the Reds if McKenzie gets the job? And who will take up the evil SH figure vacated by O'Neill?

Let's not forget that John O'Neill had already screwed over NZ and removed the "joint hosting" arrangement. Face it, if the tournament had been joint hosted in NZ with a home semi, there's no way ENG played AUS in the final in the first place...after all, winning at home is easy, right?

Re: Deans outlasts John O'Neill
So let me get this straight AWOP... first he's capable of mind control over the NZRFU by causing them to behave a certain way with regards sponsorship advertising, then he's got the power to cause the final to go into extra time and to orchestrate the winning play for the other side. Anything else you'd like to pin on him while we're here? Was he the lone gunman too? My BBQ ran out of gas last night, I thought it might have been my fault at first but upon reflection I decided that JON was somehow involved.

Enron, Bear Stearns, Lehmans Brothers, Bernie Madhof and Blackrock. All O'Neill.

I think O'Neill signed up AIG for the ABs too. Tew is his puppet.

He also made Taine Randell and Reuben Thorn captain.
