The cupboard must be bare! Bring back Stringer till you find your next man although I do like the look of this Marshall fella. Murray is and always has been overated, ok behind a dominant pack. Reddan is average at best.

At this point - I have no idea. Marshall isn't consistent, Reddan is average but solid, and Murray is just playing awful rugby right now. Will he improve? I hope so, he is quickly becoming the next TOL.
Luckily we have a few young options coming through the ranks at 9. They are very inexperienced though.

Rory, give the young guns a chance, we've thrown in Tavis Knoyle, Rhys Webb and Lloyd Williams lately and they've all come on reasonably well. I just think you need a scrum half who does the basics well first; your 9's seem to want to create something all the time instead of just doing the job of the 9 first and foremost. Stringer was just that man, nothing fancy but effective, what an underated player

I think Murray is playing well, bar his howler on Saturday. TOL looks like he's going well at LI as well.
I think Marshall's reputation precedes him a bit. I think he's doing the basics well, he's not as erratic as in his youth and he is deadly around the fringes with his lightening pace. His box kicking is top class and he's a very good defender too. If he's good enough to push Pienaar then he deserves a crack.

Reddan with Marshall on the bench.
I think there is a lot to be said about having Stringer in there somewhere.
It is quite strange thinking about it but scrumhalf is probably the only position where no Irish candidate stands a reasonable chance of being a Lions tourist.
None of them are good enough

I don't think there's any case for having Stringer anywhere, he is totally shot.
I think Murray is a Lions candidate for sure although I think he'll lose out at Phillips expense.

I think the Lions 9's will be Phillips, Care, Young/Laidlaw
Stringer could do a good job for us me thinks, I don't think I'd select him unless he got the Munster jersey and did well with it.

Marshall at the moment.
Murray made a poor judgement at the end of the game on saturday but prior to that had been in great shape.
Reddan was unimpressive

Re: Reddan, Murray or Marshall for #9
I think Robson made a very good point on Friday night with regards to Paul Marshall. He used to be known as a livewire, attack, attack, attack scrumhalf who sniped at everything and took quick penalties even if it wasn't on.
The past two years, and especially in the last 9 months he has become much more rounded as a player and I think he is definitely the form 9 in Ireland. As Rodders said his defence is good, his box kicking is out of the top drawer and he has a real eye for gaps, whether that's in the line or in the cover. And on top of that he has a pass that is improving game on game.
I think if Deccie is really serious about making a good go of his last AI's then he at the very least needs to have Marshall on the bench! And I for one would be glad to see him start!

Dont judge a guy after one game. Reddan was one of the top SH in europe last year.maestegmafia wrote:Marshall at the moment.

I'd agree with this and also thought Reddan dominated Murray in lansdowne.
Murray I think has got significantly worse since the World Cup Warm Up Games

Marshall should start vs Fiji and be a bench man for the Saffa game, see how he gets on and determine the options for the Argie game then

Re: Reddan, Murray or Marshall for #9
Marshall and Reddan would be my choices. In hindsight its probably better for Murray wait and develop a few years in Munster. Get his decision making sorted out and then be a strong contender for Ireland selection. Marshall and Reddan are older and it took them time to become the players they are today.
I'd also keep an eye on Kieran Marmion. He is young but playing well.
As well as props and centers, Ireland needs a few scrumhalfs to come through.
