Danny Jacobs - Beats Cancer
I'm sharing this as I wasn't even aware Danny Jacobs had cancer until I read this.
The Middleweight prospect appears to be fighting this weekend following the all-clear from cancer (which is great news in itself).
I'm glad to see the guy back in the ring and I'm glad the loss to Pirog hasn't had a massive effect on him.
Here's the story:

It is now almost a year since cancer entered my life. Seeing a 12 month ongoing battle against it has made me incredibly humble and in awe of the human spirit. To get back boxing is truly incredible. I am thoroughly pleased for the chap.

Never heard of the guy, but all power to him. Puts a lot of things into perspective.

Not me. My old man. We're quite close, he brought me and my brother up on his own. Lovely bloke, teacher, lived healthily and after a trip to the dentist got diagnosed with melanoma which is the ar5e of most cancers. Turns out his is a one in a million because they can't find the primary and melanoma is inside despite being a skin cancer. When he told me he said it'd be the last time he sunbathes with his mouth open...... Being in the jaw, the initial surgery was pretty ridiculous and not something I could've coped with. It is amazing how they can rebuild your jaw with your fibia! He now looks pretty much just the same (big thumbs up to NHS surgeons). Recent radiotherapy has given him a fairly decent kicking but all is currently looking up. Melanoma tends to be a life sentance though as it can stay dormant once it is in the bone. As it is so rare every melanoma specialist in the world wants to see him. Today he had some Dutch guy giving him the once over.
Despite this 'essay' I don't generally feel too sorry for myself. I shift a few more bottles of wine a week but i'll get over that. Stories like Danny Jacobs are hugely positive and give me a bit of a lift. Like I said, to beat it you must have some serious balls.

I wish the best for your Old Man Sean, wishing you all the best too Alma... Having something like that hanging over your head must be the worst feeling. I found Danny Jacobs story truely inspiring (it's not too different from the way Paul Williams had dealt with his life changing experience).
I questioned why I didn't hear about it sooner, but saying that, he probably wanted the privacy and time away to focus on getting better - a lot of respect for that. It's heartwarming to hear the ovation he had coming out at the conference too.
These guys are fighters... warriors, losing is not an option.
It gives you a different outlook on life. Rather than feel sorry about it, roll with the punches (poor pun I know) and focus on a bigger, more important fight!
I'm happy for Danny as he comes across as honest and likeable. I'll be glad to see him back (the boy has some cracking skills in the ring).
