Wouldn't surprise me if they did at all the way the squad and management team has been completely undermined by John Mitchell following the team and gving media interviews about if he DID join the club he would be the only leader and change this and change that...What are the squad meant to think ?

Worse that would be a middle finger up to all of those who were prediciting a two horse race for relegation with London Welsh leading the race for the chop.

Worcester have been far the better team than Sale so far this season and have been unlucky not have a few results go there way, e.g. Gloucester at home. I expect Worcester to win and for Sale to fail to get a LBP.

Can't argue with that.
It could be a very grim trip back home for the Sale faithful.

Re: What if Sale lose tonight? - They did.
Considering the importance of this game, the team selection beggars belief. They've put out one of the most blunt and slow backlines I've seen in a long time.
They've dropped Mark Jennings from the squad entirely (despite being one of their better players from the Heineken cup rounds) in favour of two really uncreative bosh centres (Who have provided nothing all season anyway). They've dropped Rob Miller! He may not have played all that well against Montpellier, but he is one of the few guys they have that carries any form of attacking threat.
They're starting Ross Harrison! Normally I'm all for giving youth a chance, but his début in a must, must, must win game? I'm finding it difficult to see the logic.
Worcester a tough nut to crack at home, I really doubt this team will do it.

Is this one on tv?
It does have a compelling storyline, but similar in a way to watching a drag race knowing one of the cars is going to drive off the cliff on the side of the road.

So if Sale are bottom at the end of the year will they get relegated and Newcastle come back up? Or are Newcastle not allowed back in now because their amenities don't meet the constraints that the PRL set...?

Sale are playing much better than they were.
A series of matches coming up with other teams affected by int call-ups and they should start winning.

Shame for Sale
- didn't some people think they were going to challenge the top 6 or even the top 4 this season?

If you're wrong you post an article telling us how good the Rabo is and how crap the Aviva Prem is (and to be fair it's not a bad forfeit because you wouldn't be lying).

The Rabo's ok but it is the 3rd best league in Europe, behind the Jeff and Top14.

You mean Redpath surely? Utterly mediocre coach. Steve Diamond is a good forwards coach at least, if nothing else

I'm baffled as to how no matter how awful his selections, how inept his forwards, how inert his backs, Redpath still manages to squirm out of being the first person blamed.
I've asked the question before to Glos fans as to why they seemed to rate him. I was utterly unconvinced by the answers. Has he ever improved a single player, let alone team?
Coaches like Redpath are part of the problem with the Prem. We've got plenty of good young players but far too few top-rate coaches.

Agree with this, the quality of coaching is well behind the quality of players at a lot of clubs. Redpath is a poor coach who's very good at saying the right thing to the press though, and everyone loves a coach who throws around words like pride, honesty and character. Much like Lancaster.

Re: What if Sale lose tonight? - They did.
Redpath won't survive a failure at Sale and will be lucky to find another job where he is ultimately in charge. However, it seems to me that the whole Sale set up is flawed and bringing in Mitchell could see the whole thing disintegrate. What they need is a unifying influence that pulls them all together as a group and I don't see anyone there doing that. On the field they are not playing with any conviction or cohesion and their senior players aren't doing enough to influence things. It's all pretty dire.
Re: What if Sale lose tonight? - They did.
I think it is pretty ludicrous to compare Redpath and Lancaster. How many AP games in a row has Redpath now lost - it must be getting on for 12? Maybe next week he won't pick either the South Seas centre partnership, or the 19/20 year old English combo but will actually try a mix?
I think Sale are playing a bit better though, and they could easily have gotten the draw. Hodgson's tackle on Addison was undoubtably brave, but also pretty obviously illegal - he basically executed a flying headbutt without using his arms. Still, it sounds like Cipriani didn't really have his kicking boots on, so it may have made no difference.

Quite a lot of people did actually, including several pundits. It was a reasonable assumption to make as well, when you consider their end of season form last year and the signings they made over the Summer. It was logical to think they could kick on and be right in with a shout.

If you'd asked me back in May would I be defending Brush I'd have laughed at you! But I think that is a harsh view on his abilities. There is no doubt that he had taken Glaws as far as he could but during his tenure we had a season finishing 3rd and winning the LV, coupled with him reducing significantly the wage bill from Dean Ryan's spell.
Has he ever improved a player? I think you'd find it very difficult to argue that he didn't improve Burns, Sharples, May and Trinder all of whom were brought into the first team by Brush.
With the exception of Rob Cook all of Glaws' signings were made by Brush (and John Brain) and they all seem to be making a good impact upon the club. Likewise, as far as I understand Brush was involved in the signing of Paddy Anson for fitness coach. We lost 7 or 8 games last season when we were winning with less than 10 minutes to go. Brush recognised this and brought Anson in.
Would I want to go back to Brush? No, as I feel Nigel Davies is taking the club in a better direction, but then he is vastly more experienced at DoR level, whereas Brush is still a relative novice. I think peoples' perception of Sale last season was incorrect. They finished 6th, but taking aside the adage the table never lies, you have to say this was because Irish, Glaws and Bath massively underpeformed.

HKC I agree with that. I knew that Sale were being overhyped this season.
They came 6th last season but were so far off the top 4 that it's just silly.
10 points off 5th, 16 points off 4th, 24 points off 3rd, etc.
Closer to 9th than 5th.

Re: What if Sale lose tonight? - They did.
Redpath resigned from Glos before end of last season under dodgy circumstances just on the eve of Glos playing Sale, who had 'not' been speaking to.....as his Glos contract forbade it of course!
Glos then lost the last 4 games having been left leaderless.
New season: Redpath at Sale has now lost all 7.
His Cv is in tatters now, and he has not managed his coaching career very intelligently or successfully.

He took over at Scarlets in May 2008. So that's 08/09, 09/10, 10/11 and 11/12 at Scarlets. 12/13 at Gloucester (4 seasons, this is his 5th).
Redpath took over in Gloucester in June 2009. So Davies has a year on him. Not much difference really in terms of experience.
But he's gone now anyway.

When will Diamond take responsibility for his appointments?
He publically criticised the efforts of his senior players on Friday, which is often a sign of trouble.
He looked a questionable appointment, as does the highly divisive John Mitchell. If he doesn't succeed then Diamond really has to take a look in the mirror (or so the job himself).

Diamond talks about the need for stability and his massive faith in Redpath, yet in one action he shows the complete opposite.

Re: What if Sale lose tonight? - They did.
Sale's success last season was based on a tight defence and a competitive and agressive team ethos which the squad bought into. This season there is no team ethos and the defence has gone to hell. Irrelevant of whether Brush has a good appointment or not he had to go as the team was regressing at an alarming rate.
Sale might not be a top 6 side this season but they should not be bottom, they are a lot better than that.

Maybe, but it is preferable to being unemployed. He almost has to stay to rebuild his reputation, or find a different line of work.

Brush has got the chop it would appear, but I wonder if the man wielding the axe up there (Mr Diamond) is actually the root cause of Sales underachievement so far this season. To me he is in danger of becoming a bit of a charicature of himself, with his OTT no nonsense approach and desire to portray himself as still being the biggest dog in the yard.

Ozzy3123 I absolutely agree. Steve Diamond in my opinion is the problem.
I remember his time at Saracens. Diamond was atrocious and got sacked.
If I was Sale I would try and lure a coaching combo of Dave Ellis and Brian Ashton.
