Respect the kicker, start respecting the crowd.
First topic message reminder :
Tom Court got all puffy chested after scoring his try for Ulster against Dragons, (clearly over the manshaming England handed him in the six nations)
and told the crowd to sshh!!
Now this makes my blood boil ,seen players like Gareth Edwards score individual trys of brilliance then get up shrug off the pats on his back and jog back to his own half looking at the floor not only shows great humility but it also shows real Rugby sportsmanship.
If i was a coach and a player of mine did anything to toward the crowd that showed disrespect i would tear a strip out of his ego and remind him of what we are all about.
What do you guys think?

When has Phillips gestured to the crowd. This is starting to have a sense of irish are whiter than white again. We don't boo kicks our crowds are lovely horlicks. I don't mean to tar all of one nation with the same brush. If you can't see the difference between court celebration and others there is something wrong

Ulstermen filling the ground with the refrain of Swing Low whilst crushing Leicester last season was funny.

Not everyone can be Welsh, I'm afraid. So we'll settle for being wrong, I guess.sheephead wrote:When has Phillips gestured to the crowd. Re: Respect the kicker, start respecting the crowd.
I'll be honest, I am beyond caring about it now. I would think whoever did it was a bit twp at the time aye. Over exuberance isn't so bad like your swallow dives etc but that shush thing is pretty daft.
Anyway, like I say I'm beyond caring about it so will leave it there.

Sheephead - there are no Irish people saying its OK for Court to give the shush shush thing. Everyone admints that Court acted the twink. We all agree on that.
However showboating is showboating whether its Tom Court or Shane Williams.

Red: not having a go at showboating. Like you said everyone does it. There is a difference between that and actively trying to belittle the crowd

Re: Respect the kicker, start respecting the crowd.
So,
In summary,
It isfine to act like a bit of an eejit after scoring a try only if you are
(1) Welsh
(2) A back
(3) Have scored very late in the match
(4) It is a cup match.
You must clearly satisfy at least 3 of the above criteria to avoid having your antics castigated on this forum!

Yes and Court admitted there he was a silly boy. We admitted the same. He apologised and yet we are still discussing this as you said we are trying to make out we are whiter than white.
I don't see the issue.

But an incident may encapsulate and emphasise a symptom which may be evidence of an illness.
The Court shush and the Ashton splash are symptoms of what is possibly an underlying sickness.
So worthy of discussion imo.

Alfie invented the mo-bot in the act of scoring so I assume he's a wanted man too? Scott Gibbs for the fist in the air before scoring at Wembley?
To be fair to Alfie and Scott there was no twitter to apologise back then I suppose...
Fair play lads for not letting it go!I say round em up and hang 'em high!
The above quote and secret im referring to. In all fairness it doesn't happen very often. Youngs and this are the only ones that stick in mind. Im trying to point out they are not the same as other celebrations.

Re: Respect the kicker, start respecting the crowd.
The problem for me with the "Ash Splash" is that it is done before the try is scored. Now, when it's Chris Ashton it is mildly irritating but if one of my lot try it I will be furious.
Get the bloomin ball down before you even think about looking like a Welsh back scoring in the 81st minute of the HEC Final!!!!!!!

But you didn't need to be Welsh, sheephead, as this discussion is about Irish players verses Welsh players in showmanship and what it might mean to the opposition.
And given that Welsh showmanship was considered to be less offensive than Court's antics, then it's natural that's I'd say I'm sorry we can't be perfect, like the Welsh, who do no wrong and only celebrate. That's not directed at you, per say, but at the topic and the route it had taken.

One day I hope Ashton does feic one up.
However it'd be way worse if he grounded the ball securely, got up and did an enormous fist-wave and a shush followed by a humongous celebratory splash under the posts.

Re: Respect the kicker, start respecting the crowd.
Wasn't it one of the fernandez lobbe bro's who busted out a huge swandive for a walk in try only to drop it mid air....humble pie indeed ! Ol' Sam vesty started celebrating early a few games ago only to get caught and tackled...looked like a right twonk ! I don't mind a try celebration TBH but would prefer to see the ball on the ground first, and im not to sure about this digby Ioane break dancing malarky, a good old jason robinson punch ball into crowd then roar c.2003 final suits me.

Re: Respect the kicker, start respecting the crowd.
I hate Shane Williams acrobatics and every over the top try celebration as much as i hate players winding up the crowd with disrespectful actions.
But can i say i have a massive problem with Tom Court doing it and players along a similar caliber , Tom your crap! this is massively exposed when you play for Ireland and you can't hide behind hard South Africans and powerful Kiwis,
Even when Ashton does his splashton it angers me but i do think will he is actually quite a good finisher and good sportsmen earn some arrogance and can't be knocked for it.
But a player like Court makes an impact on a game for once and it goes to his head.

Re: Respect the kicker, start respecting the crowd.
Once we were playing a club game and this guy managed to break through I was playing Fullback and it was a race to the corner as we got close he presumably thought I was not close enough to stop him he tried to do this big swan dive I caught him in mid air and carried him into touch. He cost his team a try and I was extremely happy as it had annoyed me significantly with this action. Clearly his coach felt the same he was taken off 2 mins later and this was like 12 minutes in so I doubt that was part of the teams plans lol
Re: Respect the kicker, start respecting the crowd.
Surely this is the way all tries should be celebrated...
Now that is something to talk about!

You know what view, I respect that post. Don't agree with your assessment of Court but at least you are consistent here.
Here have and get back to the bench pressing and squats.

Re: Respect the kicker, start respecting the crowd.
I think in fairness when Court plays for Ireland he nearly always plays on the wrong side of the scrum. However all of this annoys me, Toms was more stupid than some but still very annoying when people swan dive etc especially when you are playing against them. Score the try be happy, celebrate with teammates if you wish but don't be an arse and as for ashton etc they will screw it up one day I just hope I see it lol
