Re the rest of this thread, I wonder why this forum was so keen to ban Tenez and NITB when half the members (indeed the most vociferously opposed to T and NITB) seem to spend a good proportion of their free time making sure that they are fully abreast of all that they are discussing.

LF - I'm sorry, but I think it is very strange that a moderator on a forum that banned the two aforementioned posters is a regular poster on their forum. Do you go to bait, or do you have, as so many seem to do, a Mary Whitehouse complex and believe that you have a responsibility to 'clean up' or order the internet to a way of thinking you deem appropriate?

Or do you simply enjoy debating with Tenez and NITB? If so, and really that is the only sane reason for you spending so much time away from a forum you are supposed to be helping to make livelier (ie 606v2) is that you enjoy talking to them - then why didn't you really make a good case for them to stay on 606v2 and allow a whole lot of other people to enjoy the same?

I agree with this and have made the same comment a few times recently. Particularly when said moderator and others are roundly derided over there.

To be honest IMO the whole banning thing back in April was handled very poorly. Permanent bans didnt necessarily need to be metered out, perhaps just cooling off periods for all concerned. Good luck to them 'over there', but I dont see why we need daily updates on the latest shock-horror statement from that forum. Either live and let live, or find a way of amalgamating the forums again.

regarding your final sentence, actually people who are new to 606v2 have been denied the chance to make up their own minds.

I repeat, I think it is untenable that LF remains as a moderator on a forum that banned for life (how extreme and silly is that) two posters and spends as much time posting on their forum - it makes a complete mockery of the ban - it's too dangerous for you children to read sort of thing!

I dislike slanging matches between posters and I think even less of 'bitching' behind their backs!

In essence Haddie I agree with the Hitler thing in terms of its not nice...and I suspect its the particularly extremist members of the other forum syaing that. But my other take is that the earlier "banning phase" this site went through wasnt handled or communicated well. The instantaneous nature of it, rather than public utterances of a need for behaviours to change leading to warnings, etc, led to fractions developing immediately and alot of people who dont like open conflict left overnight...and not just people who 'set up shop' with the "Protagonists". We lost a lot of other good posters around that time who had simply had enough (pardon the pun)...P4S, Tom___ and quite a few others who dont post now.

Please dont misunderstand me, the forum had got to a point where push had come to shove - and lord knows I'd had enough of it too after years of arguing the same points. But in hindsight I do wonder if too passive moderation on here in the run up to that period only created a flare point that could have been avoided and allowed the fractions to simmer down. Maybe, maybe not. I dont believe in overtly strong moderation from day to day but there are times when it is clearly needed and in March/April I think we needed a stronger hand being generally applied over a period of time - not all at once - to stop the fractions bubbling over. However, if people object to whats being said on the other forum then go and tell them...otherwise, we all know the site attracts staunch "anti-Nadalians"...nothing new there!

I agree. With effective moderating, some of the posts from veejay should never have been allowed to stand. If they had been removed and VJ asked to re write a post. Actually this forum's moderators permitted potentially libellous posts to remain for days. You shouldn't have to get to the point that you ban posters if you effectively moderate, ie invite someone to edit their post or have it removed and to be very clear, and stick to, the fact that if you have a ped discussion (and a topical sports forum should in the light of LA revelations) that it is not just an excuse to point a finger at a player that poster dislikes. It would have been easy enough to invite VJ to say that endurance ability of modern players was suspect in his opinion. In fact sometimes I felt that you, LF were promoting certain discussions because you weren't in total disagreement - in other words you struck a rather soft argument in order to keep fanning the flames when others had long abandoned a thread. I feel that even more strongly now that you are doing the same 'over there' - you are effectively making sure a certain topic is at the forefront of another forum after this one had had enough.

Personally, I think LF should either leave a certain forum and continue as an obviously popular moderator here, or continue to post at both places but to resign as mod on 606v2. It is just not tenable in my view for her to do both, and in fact, I have just lost huge respect for decisions made by moderators on 606v2 with the current situation.

The rest of you continuing to complain - why persist in reading ( when your wish was granted here) , indeed trawling through forums to find posts that offend one?!!!!!!!!! I think there is a long vendetta between certain fractions which is really a bit pre-school, don't you think?

As you know Lydian I left this forum as did as lot of Nadal fans because of Tenez and NITB .. its true what you say they were allowed to get away with too much for too long instead of warnings, temporary bans, deletion of posts all could have been used prior to the big crunch.But they were allowed to make derrogatory remarks about Nadal and his fans. I responded and was the one receiving nasty PM´s from Dave the Moderator (who was also anti-Nadal) But it matters not what forum you go on.. Tenez is there and for my part it is great to have a Tenez Free Zone.. Yes of course bickering will happen on all forums the anti-Nadals (who are in considerable numbers) is expected. I and other posters who can remain grounded know that there are criticisms that will be made of their favourite player and that is what makes a forum interesting. But with those two you could be discussing some mundane incident in a totally different match and Nadal gets dragged into it. They grind down any poster who is in opposition to their opinion.
I state again.. If there are those on this forum who wish to discuss tennis with HIM and that woman then they know where they are.

Albeit I do have to agree on one point that it is very very strange indeed that Laverfan finds such masoquistic fascination with those who walk on the dark side !!!

I would remind you that the comment that was made on Tenez´s forum was brought here on to MY THREAD.. and I responded accordingly. I dont trawl through the forums tp. I have no wish to read such garbage personally.

With respect again Haddie, I think you still miss the point.

Posters shouldn't be banned because others don't like their points of view - it's sad if posters want to leave because of others, but I didn't join at first because of the excessive sensitivity on here from Nadal fans because I knew that some of my views on his 'gamesmanship' would upset - so it kind of works both ways. And quite frankly if the forum became like that again, I would leave because I can see that there would be occasions when what I said would be blown out of all proportion.

However, some posts should never have been allowed to stand. And, I have to add I personally haven't seen any from T or NITB like that, but I don't have such a long history as you all do, which may explain. Moderating should have been better though.

The big danger for this forum is becoming, as it was at first, a very narrow thread of opinion because it is scared of opinion and where it will lead - I think active and sensitive moderating should be able to allow discussions to thrive and to know where to prune or edit posts immediately and not allow libellous ones to gather momentum, you do wonder if LF is in that position to do so, when half her posting time is elsewhere.

I dont think I have missed your point or if I have not completely.
I know that there is a certain sensitivity regarding Rafa maybe because over the years of posting here, and on the original 606 it seemed that he was fair game for absolutely anything, from gamesmanship, his tic, his water bottles, long hair, biceps, etc etc. Anything but his tennis.. and his fans did become very defensive not least because one could not just be a fan or supporter of Rafa you had to be a fangirl or fanboy.
Its suffice to say that when I have a grandson the same age as Rafa I took thorough objection to being labelled a fangirl. Many Nadal fans left because it seemed that every other thread was a Nadal Bashing one.
Rafa to me is one of the greatest exciting and enigmatic players I have watched in my long tennis spectator days.. and he is JUST THAT.
However what really set the whole thing alight was the PEDs issue.. Nadal being singled out for Tenez & NITB constant innuendos and insinuations barely stopping short of accusation the issue got nasty. Tenez and I were also members of Centre Court He got banned from there also for the same reason and although I wasn´t exactly banned it was obvious I wasn´t welcome because of the continuous battles that he and I had. I believe he was a member of MTL .. no longer so. He got banned from the original 606. and it sure wasn´t because he is a fan of Federer so Ill leave you to work it out.

Personally I don´t see why this forum should be narrow.. everything should be up for discussion if what is being discussed is fact and or can be proven.
Tenez´s problem was he could not come up with the facts when he was challenged.. I think the forum was concerned that what was being discussed could be termed libellous because his arguments had no substance.
Such was his Anti-Nadalism he was totally obsessed by the man ..NITB jumped the wagon because she being a Djokovic fan was only happy to have someone in her camp so to speak.
It all got messy and decisions were made more out of desperation than anything else I think.


But now you see, (as you challenged me on another thread) why I did not post here for a very long time.
Though I understand that the forum may have taken a cautionary safe route (maybe too much so) I would also hate to see it go back to those dark days.
