Witter vs Gavin
First topic message reminder :
Morning folks!
Tonight's fight at York Hall, Bethnal green for the British welterweight clash should be an interesting fight. I will lay my stall out now and say I'm routing for witter. I have always wanted him to do well but have since his loss to Bradley been frustrated by him. That was his big night, live on itv, his potential step board to a fight with hatton and he blew it. I don't want to take anything away from Bradley as we know what a special talent he is. Witter fights in the switch hitting ingle gym style that once I found refreshing and now just slightly annoying. Witter was then again disappointing against Alexander and Father Time appeared to have caught up with him. This was compounded by his prize fighter final loss against fighters who a few years before wouldn't have been fit to lace his gloves. I don't know why I like witter, most interviews he comes across cringe worthy but I guess I dislike Gavin more. At least witter lives and breathes boxing and I'm hoping that he can have a few more defences of the famous Lonsdale belt and maybe a go at the European before calling it a day. He can be proud that he held the WBC light welter weight belt.
Gavin has all the talent and no respect for himself or the sport. I might be proved wrong and he has settled down but he seems to be throwing away his obvious talent. From being the amateur world light weight champion to weight problems to his seemly half hearted attempt in the pros. I hope witter (annoying as his is!) the dedicated pro shows a last flash tonight.
Thoughts gentlemen?

Witter is shot to hell, this is one of the slowest fights I've ever seen and he looks shattered, can't believe he thinks he should be in line for a hatton fight, he's the opposite of a PPV fighter

Witter in his corner is done. He will prob ruin this fight with holding all the way to the end. The ref is giving witter a bit of a hard time too.

Yes, although nobody ever looks good vs witter and stylistically he was never going to look great. He has also only fought once in 15 or so months and after the first 3 round he looked to have shaken off his ring rust

He's not that generous to quit. He would rather bore everyone half to death . Every punch he throws he just follows up with a big cuddley hug ahhhhh x
Re: Witter vs Gavin
He hasn't looked impressive, but when a clown like Witter runs and throws a haymaker then grabs for dear life it's hard to look good.

Gavin hasn't been great, but he is a natural counter puncher and Witter has thrown 8 punches in 5 rounds

Re: Witter vs Gavin
Why are the commentators saying that witter has the power to end a fight, he has never been heavy handed and now at welter he's even worse
Witter NEEDS to retire after this

Even by Witter's standards, he's put in a dour shift tonight. If Gavin can't look totally dominant and free-flowing against this version of Junior, then his career really does look set to be a disappointment.

What the hell is Witter doing with his stances? Did he snort some coke between rounds?

No idea what fight Barrie Jones has been watching, he must've had a tenner on him. (Witter)

Re: Witter vs Gavin
Witter is such a clown, feel a little sorry for gavin as he can't counter someone so negative and impressive in doing so. witter for all his flaws doesn't get stopped or get close to being stopped often so it's not too much of a concern
He is 27 now and should be looking at Denton Vassell or Matthew Hatton as they are both beatable and will raise him levels above the likes of witter

I seen Witter put this dour performance in 15 years ago against Zab Judah, never liked th guy completely overachieved for me, no jab no in game and his work rate is that of a asthmatic OAP

Gavin needs to drop weight. He looks very fleshy.

Re: Witter vs Gavin
I wasn't going to watch this fight, and I wish I'd stuck to my guns. I mean it this time; I'll never watch Witter box again! He used to be canny, conservative and unorthodox. Now he's just crossed the line in to the territory of ultra-negative, an out and out spoiler and a fighter happy to just make up the numbers.

Re: Witter vs Gavin
He was a lightweight as an amateur and looked good as a pro at 140 but at 147 he looks laboured and not nearly as sharp
He said that warren wants to get him out again in December which can't hurt
Witter says that he was fit today and he just couldn't get his shots off, err that's because you were knakcered by round 6

Re: Witter vs Gavin
That was possibly one of the worst fights I have seen.
Witter stunk the place out, if Gavin didn't engage there was absolutely no action. Witter just held constantly and that point deduction should have come ages before it did.

Dire fight, hope that's the last time we see Witter stinking out a ring.

Re: Witter vs Gavin
Gavin won't drop weight. Best he can hope for is he grows into 147. He doesn't have great power at the weight, that much seems clear.

Gavin is such a flipping disappointment, so is Degale for that matter! Both guys look as though they never train when you see them at weigh-ins.

Re: Witter vs Gavin
Dire fight which I switched off after 5 rounds and went to bed. It was like watching two novices. Had it pretty even before I switched off, was it that clearer win for Gavin?
He should be at 140lbs most IMO. No future at welterweight for me.
