How can Clattenberg referee in the Prem again ???
Surely his only recourse can be a defamation suit!!
I mean If I was wrongly accused (saying he is)..Then I'm going to be a little upset with the club who wrongly accused me!!
Given that... any rival to Chelsea he referees Chelsea may cry foul and that the referee has an agenda....
How can he be seen to be impartial after this????
Get my drift!!

Interesting point Truss and one I hadn't considered. The guy could be done either way but if he isn't guilty I hope action is take against the players who have sworn under oath.

Difficult one Hampo..Isn't it....???
My guess is " compromise" by the FA...
But how can Clattenberg referee?? impartial in the future????

I agree buddy, very difficult. If the FA take a different stance to that which they take with players then they'll get abuse for that, end a guys career on probability then they'll probably get sued. Very difficult for them.

I cant believe he would say anything racist tbh. And i hate Clattenburg
Seems very much like sour grapes from chelsea to me as well as being hypocritical. How can thy try to get someone punished for racism when they didnt punish one of thrre own players for it??????? Ridiculous

I really can't see Clattenburg saying it either. It's career suicide to do so! And surely he would know better?

Re: How can Clattenberg referee in the Prem again ???
He can be impartial simply because he's a professional, if anything I feel that he will become even more focused to give the correct decisions as all eyes would be on him, I can't see him refereeing Chelsea games again which is a shame for him if it costs him an FA Cup Final spot
I'm not a fan of Clattenberg but I'm inclined to believe he didn't say what he's been accused of saying, and I'm not sure the Chelsea players who did hear him are totally in the wrong either, they could have mis-heard him and as the emotions and tempers where at boiling point they could have chosen to automatically believe he was abusive instead of being ordinarily responsive

I read in one of the papers, can't remember which, that he said "shut it Mikel" and his Geordie accent may have made it sound like "shut it monkey."
I find that more believable than anything else. Wasn't Mikel badgering him the whole game? Who'd be a referee...

Most plausible explanation yet, especially when you consider Ramires is a key witness.

Re: How can Clattenberg referee in the Prem again ???
Is this the Chelsea players and coaches ways of putting a veto on Clattenburg. Frankly I think he was incompetent in that match and destroyed the game of the year so far in a very important early season match. I don't think he is a good official and this should be the last straw either way. But maybe the chelsea players felt this would be a good way to ruin his reputation and get him out. I mean the FA is unlikely to do anything permanent to punish a referee for incompetence but this is the best way to put pressure on the FA to quietly shelve this guy. I just don't think we know what the truth is. If any non chelsea witnesses like the other officials or maybe someone else impartial then he is toast if not it could be a stealth black ball by Chelsea.

He obviously won't laugh and forget it, how are you meant to just forget all this publicity, however he is doing this job because he obviously loves it, why else would anyone do it, so in order to contunue doing the job I've no doubt in my mind he'd allow himself to move on.
As Freekshow pointed out, its been reported that he said in his Geordie accent "shut it Mikeal" and Luiz and Ramires thought he said "shut it Monkey" so if that's the case and it can be explained away then as long as Chelsea accept that maybe the case in point I don't see why Clattenburg can't move on.
Now if Ramires and/or Luis thought they heard a racist remark they're well within their rights to come forward and would be encouraged to do so, hopefully Clattenburg understands this, however hopefully Chelsea are equally understanding when it's proven that Clattenburg didn't say that particular word and it was a mistake
If the referee had said nothing at all and Chelsea just came out with an accusation then I'd be inclined to agree with you, but the fact that he did say something which could be misinterpreted for me means there can be a fixable solution without anyone looking too bad here

Re: How can Clattenberg referee in the Prem again ???
I've always thought that you just have to give the benefit of doubt to referee's, apart from the obvious club that they supported as a kid and their rivals or games that would affect that club, you have to just give them the benefit of the doubt that the small benefits of possibly changing the result of a game, isn't worth not ever being able to referee.
For example, I have lots of irrational dislikes in football such as QPR, so if I was a referee in charge of a QPR game, or a game that would affect QPR's position, and let's say Wigan will go down if QPR win. In my head I'd be tempted to affect the game to get the result I wanted, but as a referee you have to stop yourself doing that as it'd be too difficult for the FA to find out every single effecting factor in a referee's decisions.

When you have been wrongly (probably) accused of a criminal offence by someone...
You're going to want them to do well are you.???
If you're Chelsea do you want Clatty reffing City and united games??

A ref possibly being biased because a club tried to end his career? If Clattenburg is found not guilty then Chelsea can reap what they sow
