First topic message reminder :
its disgusting- the family is overweight.. they should not be eating that sort of food ever! the fact that they even ''like' that sort of food is a big problem.
the mother said she was raised on it!
That is there stock spaghetti dish!
Jamie oliver needs to be sent to that family- its an emergency i tell ya!

You're right re. the spaghetti, butter and TK. It's not great but it's not as bad, nutritionally, as is being made out. As I said before, if they ate that occasionally, what's the issue? If they eat it every day? That's another matter.

So De Matteo gets the heave ho. I really despise Chelsea as a club and Abromovich in particular.
De Matteo was pushed into making a lot of new signings, which long term will be good ones, but it takes time to change from how they were playing last season.....utter gash...to playing some really nice stuff but also defending well. Much as I cant stand Terry they have missed his organisation and Cole in unsettled as he cant get the deal he wants, Cahill has all the attributes to be a very good centre back...expect a footballing brain that is. Ditto Luiz but even more so, together they are an accident wating to happen.
And the answer is Benitez who they want on a 4 month contract ? Bizarre and disgusting club.
Id also like to add that I think the chances of Clattenburg having said what he is meant to have said are pretty much zero.

Pretty much the perfect illustration of everything that is wrong in football nowadays. I don't care much for the premiership, I think the finance surrounding the whole circus is obscene and repugnant and this is a prime example of it. I wasn't particularly anti Chelsea... But I hope they struggle now.

Anyone else think HMRC should be brought to account when they make a massive blunder e.g. Make a demand that takes a multi million pound organisation to the wall, then discover that their demand is actually without proper foundation and shouldn't have been made in the first place?

This doesn't mean the current buns were blameless JAS, they went out of business despite this, not because of it.

Realistically though, had this judgement came out before or during the Administration process, liquidation would simply not have happened. Everyone except for a very few assumed that this judgement was going to go the other way and made judgements based on that assumption ( e.g. The potential bidders back in May/June).
The BBC and their scurrilous mischief making documentary didn't help either and well as the fantasy figures (not present on any balance sheet) about how big the debts supposedly were.
Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if it later comes out in the wash that Senior HMRC officials involved in instigating this case had leanings toward the "other side" as well as "friends" in the BBC.

It's a good thing for Scottish football (as much as it's rubbish) as it forces clubs to operate within the pathetic income they are able to generate.

Re: Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
I don't think the Rangers case has run its course yet.
The decision yesterday was only the first tier tribunal, I believe. Potential further appeals by either side to the upper tribunal, Court of Appeal, House of Lords... [which I suspect is the end of the road - don't know the case very well, but based on what little I've read, I wouldn't have thought the European Court would be involved]
May be a while before this is finalised.

Re: Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
NY was great.
The one thing that struck me was the fact that so many stick to there ethicities steriotypes.
I went to this steak house. It was an italian one. I honestly almost felt edgy. As if I was in Sopranos.
All the italians were huddled around with slick looks and hair and talking in that gangster accent. It was a great method to garantee a tip!!
The black dudes on the street where bouncing of the walls and singing and asking for donations for the clean up effort etc.
The blokes that owned the irish pubs- were trying to be Irish(well american irish anyway!)
I found it so funny just listening into conversations.. These two southern americans were chatting in there and they were going back and forth with the owner talking about newcastle brown ale, and how it was a very popular irish beer!!(lol)
I really did feel like an alien sometimes. I have a strongish accent(not complete danny dyer but close!!) and many couldnt quite understand what i was saying.
I asked for butter in a restaurant, and the waiter kept saying butter back to me.. I said it 5 times , he didnt have a scooby. someone from the table next to me said something that sounded more like Burbta and he instantly new what it was. I asked for tomotoes on a pizza and he didnt have a scobby either- Then eventually he said - oh you mean tamato!! lol the classic one.
I loved walking around central park and around the city Infact i must have walked 20 miles a day!!
I did alot of shopping. The sales people in bloomingdales are on you like flies on sh!t though. Never experienced that level of attention and almost agression!
Some of the food was amazing- some of it you could feel your arteries clogging up.
I went up the empire state. which was cool.
I saw wicked - which was great.
I went into harlem which was scary.
Its a place you gotta see i suppose.

Much as I love NYC it probably reminds me of London more than any other city Ive visited. Which is fine other than Ive lived in London for almost all my adult life and its nice to see something totally different when you go away.
I really love LA and San Francisco but next trip to the States will be to New England and Maine I think, do that as a roadtrip and take in Boston.

Has religion become cool in the US? It seems most american athletes praise the lord after winning something, and now the young lad from 2 and a half men has turned against the show because its 'filth' and goes against his bible studies. What happened i thought religion was only for squares?

Mysti - Interesting insights, thanks for sharing.
In the US there surely is no other city like NYC.
The quintessential US city, IMO, would be Chicago.
Drive around New England? Good call. Maine or Kwiniland would be hard to beat.
If the outdoors is your thing, try some of the National Parks (Zion a personal favorite) ... I read that something like 80% of the park visitors never go more than 1/4 mile from their car ... so a short hike gets you some real solitude, even in high season.

Re: Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
I live on Long Island and work in Manhattan. Apart from workdays I never come into the city (unless someone's visiting from across the pond and wants to see the sights). And when we're on holiday over there we never go to London -- don't enjoy big cities at all, although must admit Paris has a certain je ne sais quoi !
Boston/New England road trip is a great idea. Also recommend upstate new york -- some beautiful countryside/friendly small towns etc once you leave Manhattan.
Took a trip last spring to the San Diego area for a family wedding and drove north afterwards to Yosemite. It was gobsmackingly fabulous. Not the high tourist season, so not too crowded and actually well organized. Free shuttle buses take you around a circular route and you just hop off at any stop and start hiking. It can get very isolated very quickly. There's a small cinema/museum/gift shop, plenty of free guided walks if you're interested, limited opportunities to buy food and drink, but no Macdonalds/Starbucks etc. I was pleasantly surprised !
Had to laugh about the language/pronunciation issues Mysti. "Butter" was a huge problem for me when I first arrived -- I've since learned how to say it so the locals understand me. Also had a really hard time with "water". And when I first arrived I thought everyone around me sounded like Sylvester Stallone.
Now I have an awful inbetween kind of accent, so when we're in UK people think I'm American, but over here people think I'm British !

Sr,
Been through O'Hare about a thousand times but don't know Chicago at all - everyone tells me I have to go. Planning a cross-country drive to Montana next spring, planning to stop in Cleveland and, if Cubbies at home, in Chicago.
Dead right on the National Parks, Plunky's Yosemite, for instance, not too far a drive from California's cities. And Bryce Canyon at sunset has to be seen to be believed. (Be even better if you could get a drink nearby.)
New England can be lovely, as can the Upstste New York that we all love, and Quebec City and north-east to Les Maritimes. But am I the only one who finds Boston a bit of a mess?
Off to Montreal this week - still reckon it's North America's most underrated Major City.

Interesting isn't it? All the ages to think about it and the clergy et al can come up with all sorts of exquisitely detailed depictions of Hell but no-one (that I've ever heard) has come up with any description of Heaven. I wonder why? Could it be that religion is a man-made fiction perchance? No! Surely not?!SpacemanSpiff wrote:Diggers wrote:super_realist wrote:SpacemanSpiff wrote:How many posters actually believe in god? Surely not many?

It think it is foolish to assume there isnt a god, after all the universe is vast and mysterious and science hasnt managed to explain everything yet.
If there is a god i wouldnt expect him to leave evidence around for us to figure it out.

well thats it isnt- i mean when we go to the extremist level of religion- people are giving up there lives for this god- for a promise of a great afterlife- i am not just talking about suicide bombers here- what about them loon bag peops that knock on our doors, or monks, or preachers, or the crazies that shout on the streets!
actually thinking about the monks- some of them are pretty cool. not talking and brewing beer all day- i could think of worse things
i wonder if they are allowed to chat on forums?

I atually learned to drive while I was living on Cape Cod many moons ago. The way people drive in that area is no surprise when you consider the extent of their driving test. I was asked to drive down a quiet country road, stop at the stop sign, turn the car around, and drive back to the test centre. I passed ! Never had to drive on a busy road or negotiate a roundabout (basically they're a free-for-all). Had to learn to drive all over again when I got back to the UK.

Plunky - My dearly departed mother used to tell the story that there were no driving tests when she grew up in the midwest. Turn 14, drive away!

Is that a cop out for "I'm afraid He might zap me if I don't believe in Him"? Lots of people take that route - I happen to think it's a bit of a cop out. There are many things we don't begin to understand yet but postulating a God to explain any of them is daft. The ancients undoubtedly explained a rainbow by invoking a God - didn't make it the case though.incontinentia wrote:It think it is foolish to assume there isnt a god, after all the universe is vast and mysterious and science hasnt managed to explain everything yet.
If there is a god i wouldnt expect him to leave evidence around for us to figure it out.
Science is continually explaining what was previously unknown and all without a God. The traditional God is simply becoming the 'God of the gaps' as someone once said. As those gaps between knowledge and the unknown decrease over time, God simply becomes the God of the insignificant and eventually nothing.
Why wouldn't you expect him to leave evidence around for us to find out? All the religious texts are full of self-indulgent decrees from God which I take to be an indication of a supreme being who's at best very shallow with a sad need for lots of affirmation from believers to massage a huge ego. Do this, do that, don't do this, don't do that. Yadda, yadda etc.

Yes! The roads are so smooth the tyres squeal when you go round a corner at 10 mph! When we arrived, it was dark and all the roads looked wet they were so glossy.

Tough poopie for them then. Hopefully the USGA and the R&A will legislate to outlaw dual anchored strokes of any sort. As for Els' remark about "people's livelihoods"..... I like you Ernie but stop talking nonsense.Shotrock wrote:Now for something entirely different ...

Scary isn't it? I think they all have a death wish. Asked a local why we saw some people driving on the wrong side of the road one day and he said "Oh, it's cooler in the shade of the poplar trees on that side of the road". Valetta was a pretty impressive place though.golfermartin wrote:navyblueshorts wrote:Anyone driven in Malta? Now that is scary.
