its disgusting- the family is overweight.. they should not be eating that sort of food ever! the fact that they even ''like' that sort of food is a big problem.

That is there stock spaghetti dish!
Jamie oliver needs to be sent to that family- its an emergency i tell ya!

You're right re. the spaghetti, butter and TK. It's not great but it's not as bad, nutritionally, as is being made out. As I said before, if they ate that occasionally, what's the issue? If they eat it every day? That's another matter.

My problem with him coming clean (maybe) is that it may have an ulterior motive i.e. he wants to take part in competitive sport again. If that's the case then it needs to be knocked on the head. Nothing about his persona for decades has suggested he's anything other than an extremely self-centred, cheating so-and-so. If he helps clean up the sport...great...but personally I hope he's never heard from again in competitive sports circles and that he's sued until he's pretty much bankrupt.JAS wrote:...So yes, he did wrong and yes he had me fooled for years. There are some now ripping into him for confessing.....so what should he do? continue to lie and deny? The fact is he and a significant proportion of the peleton (certainly most of the contenders) systematically cheated for years. That cannot happen without a LOT of collusion and blind eye turning. If he is now deciding to open up and out everyone else that supported the massive cover up then he should be given every encouragement to do so.

I can't see him ever competing without a huge shadow hanging over him and I don't quite understand why he'd want to do it.
If he whistle blows totally with a view to nailing down the clean up of the sport then fine. Trouble is he's entering into a situation where he can't really strike a deal or pay his way to a decision he finds acceptable. Those filing lawsuits against him don't particularly care about the cleanliness of cycling or his wish to compete in future. If they they so wish they'll sue him to bankruptcy anyway. He might actually also go down for a stretch for perjury.

Re: Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
As a nation Americans do seem to love a public confession of past transgressions though no matter how staged, insincere or forced by their management/pr it appears.
Stateside dwellers - is this the case in reality or is it the media portrayal of the nation?
I dare say the media will dig out plenty of people after the event (if he has confessed etc) that'll come out on his side on the basis he's admitted it and the fact he's been naughty will be washed away on a tide of spin his people have managed to generate.
Nike will be back in for him and he'll be in the US Olympic Triathlon team in Rio and carrying the flag. Wonder what the odds are on that?

Actually I think it's far worse than that, sections of the American public don't seem to be that averse to the complete suspension of reality. Some of the more recent twists in the gun debate are quite staggering. Some poor sod who lived near the school shooting and took half a dozen kids in in the immediate aftermath is now being accused of being part of a government conspiracy, the shooting didn't really happen and he's getting pelters for being part of a conspiracy to discredit the gun lobby.
Sheeesh!!! Makes Armstrongs lies and cheating seem almost sane!! That there is a nation with deep deep problems.

Dyna there is alot of questions about Sky and Wiggins just it seems to be ignored by the british media.
Paul Kimmage, who was very vocal in outing Lance, has set his sights on Wiggins and team sky and their back tracking on having no drug cheats in the team setup.

Probably increased the meat content considerably. I'm not adverse to a bit of horse meat when in France, i'd happily buy it here. Probably try a bit of dog or at given the option too.

JAS - Among the many freedoms you enjoy in these United State is the freedom to embrace the wackiest of ideas. Deep, deep problems? Sure ... if you want to look at it that way. But I would not draw such a sweeping conclusion. My experience is different - borne no doubt of the opportunities I've had (and continue to experience) -- and my optimism likely stronger than yours.
But to Lance. Try as he will to salvage any sort public support (no doubt hopeful for future endorsements) ... just wait until all those other riders continue to speak out that he pretty much threw under the bus (Landis, Hamilton, etc.).
Boy, do I wonder what sort of deal Hincapie got for outing Lance.

Sr,
It's all very well to enjoy "the freedom to embrace the wackiest of ideas", but there should also be the freedom to forcibly put a stop to it when the bounds of civilization are crossed.
Unfortunately total wackos like the Westborough Baptist yo-yos are living (sadly) proof that, in this country, you can do almost anything in the name of "freedom" with complete impunity.
As for Lance, it's all very well for cycling, sports and news organizations to lead the tut-tutters but, just as in baseball, the entities to profit most from ped's have been those exact same media and, in baseball's case, the owners.
Just as the disingenuous campaigns against violent "plays" (assaults really) in football - a deliberate flying helmet-to-helmet collision is punished the same way as tripping the punter. Gimme a break, get these guys out of the game and give them lengthy suspensions and removal of a "roster" place. That'll straighten things up more quickly than a Goodell slap on the wrist.

Oh don't get me wrong SR there are plenty positives about the US, not least the opportunities to better oneself which I'd freely concede are waaay better than here. I've only ever explored Florida, California and Hawaii and had long weekends in NYC & Vegas. I wouldn't fly transatlantic on at least an annual basis if I didn't love it. Most people I've met have been much friendlier and much less reserved than your average Brit. Admittedly I'm not qualified to pass judgement on what it's like to live there but I guess if I did I'd have much the same opinion as yourself.
The only thing that gets me (and i would be alarmed if i had to live beside any of them) is the complete and utter irrationality of the gun lobby who are effectively preserving the status quo that makes random shootings a more distinct possibility and their rhetoric about conspiracies and government wanting to seize their weapons which borders on the insane. It would be good to see the erstwhile silent majority stand up and say ENOUGH!!

Kwin - Agree. Did you see the latest NRA ploy -- attack Obama for having armed SS agents at his kids school, as they have always been for all children of Presidents? WTF?
Super - Perhaps. Separation of church and state (should be) a bedrock of our guv'mint, but you can be sure the social utopians will call out religion at will if it helps their cause.
Here's an observation I have: By viewing Faux (Fox) News, reading only those publications that support your POV, and listening to talking radio heads that spew more of the same ... there is a significant group that feel the word "compromise" is a sign of weakness. So, things continue to stall. Bob Dole went on record as saying in government you have to give on things to get things. And they raked him over the coals for his comment.
Yet, I'll suggest virtually every long term relationship is built on some sort of compromise (marriage, business partnerships, good government).
Those rednecks and gun-toting crackpots are almost exclusively the property of the conservative republicans. Good luck to them -- if they keep it up, their Greek Tragedy will continue to unfold.

Re: Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
Completely random topic - great film trilogies.
Bought a copy of Toy Story 3 for our little ones over Christmas so me, the wife and them watched all three of the Toy Story films over the weekend and a) TS3 is brilliant and b) I'd forgotten just how good TS and TS2 are. Fantastic animation, great stories and genuinely funny for adults as well as kids.
Has there been another film trilogy that's as consistently good? Third Godfather wasn't up to the first two. Original Star Wars? Lord of the Rings? Back to the Future?

Lord of the Rings is excellent (and worthy of a trilogy of lengthy films to tell it adequately, but how are they stretching the Hobbit out to 3 films?)
Star Wars (70's/80's trilogy) is fantastic.
Toy Story is great
Trilogies that promised and then failed (NB great first then massive tail off as cashing in is attempted)
Matrix (first one superb, other 2 awful)
Alien(s) (first excellent, second very good third <insert raspberry noise>
Jurassic Park
Consistently awful - Alvin & the Chipmunks!

Laura Robson beats former Wimbledon champ, and no. 8 seed Petra Kvitova 2-6 6-3 11-9 in the Australian Open 2nd round to join Heather Watson in the last 32. Not long ago we didn't have a wiff of a British woman making R2 in the slams - now we've a pair of teenagers getting it done - good stuff.

A wee tip about Madagascar...if ever you get roped into a timeshare presentation and the salesman goes....so where would be your dream holiday?? (You're expected to say something like Florida, Mexico, the Carribean, Hawaii - where there are loads of resorts that you could exchange into with what he's trying to sell you) Say "Madagascar" and watch the salesmans face. "Yeah but realistically?" He might say. So retort with "Oh definitely Madagascar - amazing place!! Have you got any resorts there? No? Och unlucky, I guess we're done here then?"

The guys in the other one had some pretty nice swings.
There is another way to deal with time share sellers - or anyone else who tries to sell you something in the street - tell them to f_uck off.

I'm surprised you still get shocked by owner behaviour in footie Kwini.
Premiership clubs and their fans are all very happy to see loads of money getting pumped into their clubs but ultimately what goes around comes around, the financial mire many clubs are now embroiled in will eventually end in tears.
Had to chuckle at the English media building up Pep and what EPL club he might join only for Bayern to step in the next day. It's not all about cash and being ruthless and impatient as an owner is ultimately not going to have the desired effect. I can see a downward spiral being in full swing before the penny drops for these Johnny come lately moneybags owners.

Not hugely shocked over Southampton as football is just mental. Disappointed for Adkins as he has been nothing less than amazing for them As a relatively young and talented guy I'm sure there'll be a queue for his services.
As a QPR fan I hope it destabilises Southampton as we need everyone to be as bad as they can be!
If anyone else has any straws available I'm willing to clutch at them too...

Money has turned football in this country into a grotesque monster as evidenced by sacking decisions like that, young players being given way more money than sense and acting like they're untouchable both on and off the field, multi millionaire owners investing without the first clue about the history or culture of what they're investing in. News/media whipping every minutiae into a frenzy of indulgent drivel, it's all quite pathetic really.

Yup - It's ridiculous.
Still, it entertains me (the game not the off field sheize) and will continue to do so when the massive bubble does eventually burst.
