Meet Joe Black - Never seen it before, thought it was great but maybe a bit too long at 3 hours. One of Brad Pitt's best performances.

Paranormal activity. Scared the life out of me. Won't be watching the sequel.
Saw a documentary called "This film is not yet rated" about the rating system in the US, very interesting.

Real Steel is very good, didn't expect to like it but my wife and me both really enjoyed it!
Last film I watched was Drive Angry, not a bad film and quite enjoyable in parts. Amber Heard is stunning though which made it a bit better!

I watched Margin Call ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1615147/ ) last night, what a cast, brilliant acting (for the majority) and a decent script, though I've no idea just how accurate it was.
Overall a very respectable 8.5/10

Re: Last Film Watched Thread
This afternoon I watched "Tara Road" on TV. It's an Irish made film based on a novel by Maeve Binchy about two different women from either side of the Atlantic who swap homes for a month or so to overcome their grief and family problems. It wasn't as twee as I feared it would be, and thankfully there wasn't a dodgy Irish accent in sight - just a few familiar faces. It passed the time wasn't so bad that I had to switch off, but it probably wouldn't suit everyone.

I watched Paranormal Activity 2 with the missus as she has been following it more than me.
All I can say was that the best actor/actress in the film was the dog.
I don't understand the following behind this franchise.

I remember that - great film!
I watched a remake of the Wizard of Gore starring Crispin Glover. Quite enjoyable for the schlock it was.

I watch that last night. Thought it was very poor. Much preferred the first one. I think its because with the first one you didn't know what was going to happen.legendkillar wrote:I watched Paranormal Activity 2 with the missus as she has been following it more than me.

"Once Upon A Time In The West".
A masterpiece of a film and what I consider to be the best western ever made. Leone in his second phase takes things up a notch from his Dollars trilogy and Morricone's score is genius, the use of music and mundane sounds to create not only atmosphere but pacing is a delight to behold.
Its hard to believe it was a box office flop and negatively received by critics upon its release. Why you should never trust what someone else says until you've seen it for yourself.

Dass - if you like the Spaghetti Westerns, I'd highly recommend Leone's spoof of them called My Name Is Nobody. It's very funny and available on DVD I believe. Morricone did the soundtrack to it as well.

Re: Last Film Watched Thread
I purchased Screwed at the weekend on DVD. After being disappointed with Ghosted, which was a prison film which lacked such direction in so many ways. British Films are certainly come back into vogue that we are not waiting for the next 'Gangster' film.
Back to Screwed which focuses on a soldier who fought in Afghanistan comes back and struggles to get to grips with the reality of his life and un-employment. He takes on a job at a prison as a guard. As his life spirals out of control as he starts to drink and take drugs and lose control of his life at home. While his friends are branching out into the drug world, an in-mate manages to strike a chord with him by understanding his character, understanding his thinking, understanding the reasoning behind is logic. Often struck by how to perceive the prisoners, his mind begins to play tricks on him.
The lead character was for me far too complex. How someone who had spent years of strict self discipline was able to lose such control. I was not so sure that the 'pyschology' of soldiers is understood and not sure if they were the audience would connect or relate to it. I remember Sean Bean in Outlaw for me portrayed the best soldier post-war because of the emptiness and soul searching which he captued superbly.
For me the movie, 6/10

Occupant (2010). Horror - poor rip off of the first Paranormal Activity. Nice gruesome ending though - 5/10.
Re-watched the Shinning the night before (they were showing it on tv for Halloween). Not as good as I remembered but still enjoyable and reminded me of what a good actor Jack Nicholson is.

Re: Last Film Watched Thread
I watched Life In A Day last night. It was an ambitious documentary collage giving a snapshot of life on earth on one day last summer edited down from thousands of video clips sent in from all over the world via You Tube. It was witty, poignant and unexpected. All humanity was there - birth, death, joy, sadness all giving us a brief glimpse into the lives of others. It showed how similar we all are whilst living very different lives. Just wonderful. It had been on BBC 2 so I'd highly recommend seeing on the iPlayer if you get access to that.

I watched "The adventure of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother' last night.
Big fan of Gene Wilder but this isn't one of his better films. Some funny moments alright but not a patch on young frankenstein.

Watched "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" the other night. Anyone seen it?
I thought it was pretty edgy... Michael Douglas was great. A really well made film which gives you an insight into how those criminal corporate titans manipulated us all... driven by sheer bloody greed! Well worth a watch.

Forgot one, I also watched "Unstoppable" well I say watched, it was all a bit predictable so I stopped watching after about 30 mins then swtiched bacl for the last 10 mins and that was pretty much all I needed to see!
Poor film, no imagination at all. A runaway train, I would say I won't ruin it for you, but your first guess will be right, and yes they even got the title wrong!.

Cool Hand Luke
I can only think of one role that Newman gave a finer performance in - "Fast" Eddie Felson, The Hustler - through his entire career, a long one at that. A man against the system and ultimately against himself, able to see his own problems but seemingly unable to change his nature.
An excellent cast which includes George Kennedy, the film could easily have been another typical prison movie surrounding one man's subsequent escape from prison. In all honesty this movie could have been put in any setting all that was important was Newman's character and his own demons.
A movie that has many layers and is far more than it seems, I'd recommend it to anyone who hasn't had a chance to see it.
