Bit of a running thread we could hopefully keep going....
Meet Joe Black - Never seen it before, thought it was great but maybe a bit too long at 3 hours. One of Brad Pitt's best performances.
Source Code - Bit of a head f**k, won't lie to you i didn't fully understand the ending.

Poor film, no imagination at all. A runaway train, I would say I won't ruin it for you, but your first guess will be right, and yes they even got the title wrong!.
I watched that film too and it was pants. The maths were some how incorrect given that the train was more or less the same speed and with a much heavier weight on it was caught by a train that had 6 miles to gain in a train that couldn't muster more than 75mph!!!

I watched Senna last night , what a brilliant insight into a true F1 legend . You dont need to be into F1 to like this film although it helps , it is just a brilliant look into the life of a man who wanted to win so much at everthing he did . 8.5/10

Sounds good. Not a big F1 fan but would give it a watch.
Have you seen "Solitary Man"? - I really liked that one.

I thought it was a great little horror much better than most that have been spewed out over the last few years

Don't watch a huge amount of horror so not much to compare it to over the last few years. Just completely lacked anything creepy, was all about shock value of the old woman's face filling the screen with accompanying increase in volume and puking all over Chris. Ones I have watched fairly recently are Ju-on, the Ring & Paranormal Activity which I thought were far superior. Even Let The Right One In & Let Me In which don't push the horror aspect much were creepier.

I hate horror films, but my friends made me watch Drag me to hell and the only parts which I found scary were the occasional jumpy bits where she appears unexpected. Apart from that I was laughing for fair a bit of it and the ending was too predictable.

I notice lately every Saturday and Sunday afternoon, the BBC show old films. Saturday I watched the classic Singing in the Rain. I know people will slate it because it's a musical, but it's fantastic. The dance routines and the songs are great, and some of the script is quite funny. It's just a joy to watch and cheers me up no end. Yesterday I watched another favourite On Moonlight Bay. Both are just pure cheerful escapism.

That's a great film Cari... great songs and dance routines. I also like that 'bleached' look of the old Technicolor movies.
Just watching "Infernal Affairs 2" - love those cop house scenes with all the "Yes Boss!" and "Yes Sir!". Stunning action sequences and pretty violent too.
I'd hate to own a fruit & veg stall on a narrow HK street... you'd never feel safe!

I watched "The Greatest Movie Ever Sold" on Saturday night, its made by the guy that did Super Size Me and is about Film marketing and product placement in films but he does his usual spin on things by funding the film through Product Placement

The Tourist. Decent enough but I do so hate it when you can guess the ending 'twist' well before the end of a film.

Last night I stayed up to watch Hunger - the biopic about the last few months of Bobby Sands life. Absolutely extraordinary - in a good way. There's no music, and hardly any dialogue with exception of a 20 minute conversation between two characters which looks like it was shot in one take. It's like a series of images that really stick in your mind afterwards. It's also absolutely brutal, and at times nauseating, so I wouldn't recommend eating whilst watching it, but do watch it.

A good looking movie with a decent plot, the ending was dreadful but it was worth a watch.

I started watching 24 Hour Party People last night. It's a film about Tony Wilson and the whole Manchester music scene from the punk days of late '70s until the Madchester scene in the early '90s. Apparently it's based on fact and a few well known urban myths, which the characters in the film point out as it goes on. Loads of familiar faces in it - Steve Coogan, Peter Kay, John Sim, Ralph Little etc and I was enjoying it until I was so knackered I fell asleep and missed the last hour! Based on my tiredness, I can't give a good review of it, but I enjoyed what I did see - some great music and a couple of laughs.

I watched Howl's Moving Castle with the family on Friday night really great film (the English accents were a tad annoying), I would highly recommend it for those with kids
Then I watch Rare Exports, which is a Finnish film about an evil santa terrorising a small village in lapland, what I thought would be a horror turned out to be a brilliantly funny Christmas film with a twist I also watch the 2 short films on youtube that spawned the film really well done and funny as Santas belly like a bowl full of jelly

Was on holiday with a limited DVD supply so watched 'The Boat That Rocked'.
The basic premise should have made for a much funnier film than this was (had a few entertaining moments, but interspersed with too much predictability) - good sound track through.

Watched Quantum of Solace the other night. I remember when it was first released hearing it get quite a lot of bad press but I don't see why, I liked that it was linked in a number of ways to Casino Royale and on top of that it has everything you would expect from a James Bond film.

For some reason they called it Pirate Radio here in North America as they felt the people wouldn't understand the original title My views on the film itself are about the same as yours.dummy_half wrote:Was on holiday with a limited DVD supply so watched 'The Boat That Rocked'.

They also cut it down by about 20 minutes for North America. I like the film but there are quite a few gaps between the funny parts which isn't the best of things in a comedy, I think it could have been better.B91212 wrote:For some reason they called it Pirate Radio here in North America as they felt the people here wouldn't understand the original title My views on the film itself are about the same as yours.dummy_half wrote:Was on holiday with a limited DVD supply so watched 'The Boat That Rocked'.

Watched Super 8 last night (not my choice) - okay for a kids film 6/10. Then watch The Exorcism of Emily Rose on the tv when everyone else had gone to bed. Just like every other exorcism film, boring, predictable and an extremely poor attempt to copy the original Exorcist film 3/10.

This afternoon I watched The Prince and the Showgirl starring Marilyn Monroe and Lawrence Olivier. A bit of a far fetched romantic comedy about an American theater actress who romances a Hungarian prince whilst he's visiting London. Classic Monroe playing the wide-eyed innocent but sexy dumb blonde to Olivier's stiff and unamused aristocrat. It was easy viewing, and she was lovely.

Saw "Justice". It's amusing how Nicolas Cage goes from teacher to Super-sleuth in no time and I just can't buy him married to January Jones. Ok film, but certainly not a "must watch".
And a warning to everyone. Hobo With A Shotgun. Just don't.
It's like somebody put a bunch of teenage boys round a table, plied them with drink and Doritos and told them to think up the the most stupid and gory ideas they could. It is dire, ridiculous and just plain awful. We switched off after 25 minutes.
