First topic message reminder :

Bit of a running thread we could hopefully keep going....

Meet Joe Black - Never seen it before, thought it was great but maybe a bit too long at 3 hours. One of Brad Pitt's best performances.

Source Code - Bit of a head f**k, won't lie to you i didn't fully understand the ending.

I watch 2 films over the weekend

The Rite: Not a bad film, it's saving grace was that Anthony Hopkins was in it 6/10

The Guard: A dark comedy staring Brendan Gleeson as an un-PC Irish guard who gets caught up with some drug smugglers 8/10

I forgot I watched "Attack the Block" as well, not a bd film but certainly not as good as Joe Cornish's other films, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz or Scott Pilgrim.

Weak cast, poor storyline, stupid looking aliens and annoying chavy heroes, innit 5/10

13 Assassins. Received the DVD as a gift, managed to watch over the weekend.

It's a period samurai flick, but imbued with modern day production values.

Disturbed by the cruel and brutal ways of the Shogun's half-brother, one of the samurai elite commits hara kiri suicide in protest. This action sows the seed of a secret plot to assassinate the young lord, but loyalty to the Shogun prevents direct action. A seemingly retired samurai great, Shinzaemon, is instead entrusted with this task, and he recruits 12 other ronin to the cause. They fight for the people, they fight for each other. They know that they will probably face overwhelming numbers, but nevertheless accept their likely fates of honourable death in battle.

As you'd expect, plenty of action, punctuated with moments of quiet contemplation and calm dialogue (a fair bit of the indirect metaphor kind).

Recommended for anyone who likes Akira Kurosawa films. Or Kill Bill Vol 1.

Recently I watched In Time which was a surprisingly brilliant film. Timberlake was awesome in it. I thought the concept was thought provoking and actually scary to imagine time itself as a currency. Amanda Seyfried was brilliant. With her role being so circumstantial along with Timberlake who experience roles reversed but adapt and even enjoy it makes it so good for chemistry between the main 2. Cillian Murphy deserves a mention for being a relentless and determined individual. I urge anyone who hasn't seen it to watch it as it is that good of a film.

Scream 4. Utter crap!

The franchise like Saw just died after the first one!! Scream like Saw became renowned for it's twist plots at the end. What ruined Saw was that when the main antagonist died, it was silly to still involve him in the sequels that followed. Scream frustrated me for a different reason. The sheer recklessness of the killers. They get kicked, punched, shoved down stairs and yet the killers never show any trace of injury? Just crap. The first one was great. I could forgive the little oversight of getting the crap kicked out of you and still show no signs of the injury. Then came 2 and then 3 and when 4 was announced I wondered how they would pull it off. As this film unravelled, I got more peed off. The Sheriff quotes everyone is a suspect and yet a kid with a webcam/camera can run around filming everything and not have that seized as evidence? At a crime scene? One of the things I could never fault Saw on was the portayal of crime investigation. Second to none.

Scream makes you just want to do that in frustration.

Avoid it if you can.

Love MacGruber. It was oringinally a sketch on Saturday Night Live.

Kristen Wiig is my favourite comedy actress, she's the main actress on SNL and is great in Bridesmaids. Which I can honestly say was very funny. Ellie Kemper from The Office is in it too.

I could go on about someone in The Office but this already feels like a cheesy "six ways of seperation".

I just watched this tonight. Agree with everything you said but still enjoyed it!

To be fair, I thought both Saw 2 and Scream 2 were as good as the originals before going off the rails. Mindless rubbish but still enjoyable!

Just watched an incredible film. Best film I have seen in a lng, long time.

Super - starring Rainn Wilson

Its incredibly odd. It reminds me of a mix between Napoleon Dynamite and Kick Ass (which is strange as I hate ND!). The story is of Rainn Wilson (Dwight from the US office) who is married to Liv Tyler, a recovering drug addict. She runs off with the local drug dealer and Rainn decides to become a super hero to win her back.

Sounds like a fun premise but it is incredibly dark in tone.

Absolutely fantastic stuff.

You can get it on Sky+ anytime at the moment)

I watch this over the weekend and loved it, I wasnt expecting it to be so dark, I was expecting a terrible p1ss-take of Kick Ass but I was happily shocked it wasnt and I am definatly getting the missus a Bolty costume Very Happy

I also watched:

Hall Pass with Owen Wilson, it was funny in parts but could have been alot better

Fast Five what a load of b***ocks, my god the acting was terrible, the Rock was terrible, the storyline was terrible but it was still the best of the lot, go figure

Bolty was so hot but so annoying! I didnt know anything about the film before randomly picking it to watch and was blown away. Favourite scene was where he was in line for the cinema and someone pushed in.

Watched Hall Pass on sky movies , Owen Wilson given a week off marriage by his wife so he can sow his wild oats .

Wasn't impressed really , there are some funny scenes but overall its not a good film . 4 / 10

I started to watch 'The curious case of Benjamin Buttons' the other day again. It only confirmed my opinion from the first time that i saw it that it could be the worst film i have ever seen.

Right.

I saw Wrath of the Titans at the IMAX in Crawley.

First off, just wow. The screen is literally the size of me street!

The film. Well fans won't be dissappointed as it does literally start from the off. Rotten Tomatoes were quite scathing of the film as were many american critics. I take issue to this because unless they know their greek mythology which I think they don't, it is silly criticise the script. For me it ticks all the boxes for a sequel because it out does it's predecessor. The first film was criticised because it promised so much and yet the script was weak in places. For me not enough emphasis was put on the gods themselves. It could've gone deeper in to what had happened between the Titans and the Gods.

Worthington is fantastic as Perseus. This time he has a son and he had a wife. For me to film it 10 years after the first is a tad ambitious. For so much to happen and be glossed over is a mistake some films make. Rosamund Pike deserves a mention. I thought she was good in Surrogates and this time I think she portrays Andromeda superbly. Kebbel was poor as Agenor. Adds some very unwanted wit which in ancient Greek days is a bit unrealistic. Fiennes performance is ruined by a twist in the film. Such a shame that his performance is smeared by a crap plot twist which is un-holy un-necessary. Edgar Ramirez was given licence to put in a performance and be creative and he really does embrace the role and the character. Neeson like Fiennes was completely shafted by the plot twist.

For me 7.5/10

If you are fan of the first installment, go watch it. If you are picky, I would say wait for it to come on Sky.

Battleship. Should change the last letter to a "t".

Dialogue? Change that the direlogue. Unfortunately it's not one of those "So bad it's good" films. It's just bad. Full of plot holes, full of silly scenes and Liam Neeson has just turned up so he can pay his phone bill. They have tried to make Rihanna into Pvt Vazquez from Aliens. It REALLY doesn't work. Stick to singing love...

Only worth watching for the aliens & their weapons.

Pulp Fiction is a brilliant film. What is so good about the film is the precision of the little things.
