Bit of a running thread we could hopefully keep going....
Meet Joe Black - Never seen it before, thought it was great but maybe a bit too long at 3 hours. One of Brad Pitt's best performances.
Source Code - Bit of a head f**k, won't lie to you i didn't fully understand the ending.

Is it really directed by Sam Raimi? I never knew, that's mad I mean I love Evil Dead (mainly for the cheesiness) but am not a fan of his other work.
It's a great film, and unlike his other work, though I suppose in hindsight I should have guessed from the graphic/comic book gun shot holes in the heads of some of the gunslingers.

Another great, subtle and under rated film by him was a Simple Plan.
Huge fan of Raimis

Ain't seen/heard of Simple Plan, what's it about?
TBH I don't really like horror or zombie movies unless their clever/original. I love Evil Dead films because their so funny and Bruce Campbell is classic in them. I like Zombieland, the Shinning, 28 Days Later and also Day of the Dead (because unlike most Zombie films it has good acting).
A lot of zombie and horror films IMO seem really generic and predictable.

The Fast Five. In no way good, but mostly entertaining and I still think the Rock is awesome!

I think I may have to watch a classic Tony Scott film tonight as a tribute. RIP.
Which one though True Romance, Enemy of the State, Crimson Tide or Spy Game?

I know what you mean True Romance is an amazing film with some great bits in it, but it's also the one I've seen the most and I think all of those films are really good.
I think the only films I didn't like of his (that I've seen) were Unstoppable and Days of Thunder (though to be fair it's flows pretty well it's just a bit ridiculous).

He was supposedly thinking about a top gun remake!!
Not sure about that but at the same time its a shame he wont be finishing it off.
How about De Ja vu- enjoyable film!

Yeah I heard that Tom Cruise would have been the 'flight commander'/trainer, basically taking the place of Viper from the 1st film (I imagine they would have been attacking state of the art North Korean/Iranian planes in this one).
Deja Vu was ok, a decent film but I much prefer Enemy of the State, Spy Game and Crimson Tide

Re: Last Film Watched Thread
Just read this on IMDB about what Tony Scott says about Days of Thunder - TS "On Days of Thunder (1990): The problem was, we started on the movie without a script. Tom [Cruise] was already part of the line-up when I arrived and they said: "Tom can sit behind the wheel of a race car and smoke a cigarette and this movie will make a fortune." And that was the attitude we went in with. Robert Towne would be writing the scenes at night, we would shoot in the morning. It was a dangerous way to work. But we really thought, "Look - it's racing cars and it's Tom Cruise!" But you always have to get a story and you've got to get character first, and we hadn't."
That explains a lot I guess LOL

I watched the Expendables 2 last night. What an amazing blockbuster that is! It was so great to see Arnie, Stallone and all the other big action guys in the same movie tearing sh/t up! Van Damme has still got the kick! He was good as the bad guy.

Re: Last Film Watched Thread
Ok I watched Man of Fire last night.
It did leave a lasting impression and it was a good film.
However a few negatives would be that I questioned its morals and plot a few to many times.
Some films are just seemless and take you on that journey- It doesnt matter if its 100% belivable of not for me just wether the film allows me to question it or not. Radha mitchell may have been the problem, oddly enough she really reminded me of Patricia Aqquette in trie romance.. She is stunning, But a few things just dont sit right, the editing may have been abit off also. Anyway best performance I have seen by Denzil washington..

Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind(for the 5th time) love it, but it puts me in a strange place..
I dont normally talk about how good actresses are- Not sure why that is in honesty. I suppose its just the way i view films, and allways concentrate on actying by actors. But winslet is one of very few actresses that really drags me in. She is brilliant..

Slapshot starring Paul Newman. Watched it on Netflix. Saw it years ago and wanted to watch it again - just as brilliant on second viewing! One of the great sports films - funny, violent and irreverent and Newman at his knowing best.

I love both eternal sunshine ane kate winslett.
Stranger than fiction is also a great film and maggie gyllenhall and emma thompson are both very good in it.
I think the reasons i think more about great actors than great actresses is becoz actresses tend to be cast mostly for the way they look regardless of how good they are. Look at the lack of leading roles for the fantastic kathy bates, while how many roles does the insipid keira knightly star in?

ESOTSM is a wonderful film. Winslet and Carrey are both excellent and Michel Gondry is a genius. It's brilliantly structured, funny, sad, deep and involving.mystiroakey wrote:Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind(for the 5th time) love it, but it puts me in a strange place..

It's really bittersweet and is a film that really affected me when I watched it. I must have seen it ten times now. Beck's cover of Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime at the end is really haunting too.

I watched the Last Boy Scout last night, can't figure out if I've seen bits of it before. But a good action film with some really funny bits in it (like when Bruce Willis does an Irish jig at the end), and Damon Wayans is really good in it.

That and Hot Fuzz are great, and thanks to my missus (who loves zombie movies) I could get all the references from Shaun of the Dead.
I watched Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close earlier, really touching film and great performance from the kid, not what I expected at all.
