Yeah seen it. Good bits of violence, but not much thought into where the movie is going.

They were stark films which showed friends and families are destroyed as a result.
I think both films show this. However This is england not so much. At the end of the film its kinda closure for everyone involved bar the racist bully and everyone gets back to normal. He loses followers after followers with his extreme actions and then ends up on his own with no one else left.
American history X show the reversal of his inbred racism(given to him by his father) from being forced to hang out with a 'brother'in jail but his switch still wasnt quick enough to save his kid brither. dark times hey.. Everything becomes rosey and then Bam the brothers dead. The ending lasts with the viewer for a long time. Is that abit of a cheap shot, not sure- but powerfull at the same time.

Good film. Dillon played his part well as did Cheadle. An all around good story of conflict, love and tragedy.

I went to the cinema to see Killing them softly last night, i thought it was a great film, despite a fair few people slating it once the film had finished, strong acting performances all around!

A little bit off topic, but have just watched 10 mins of MTV's the Valleys on their web-site. 10 mins I won't be getting back. Why do people watch this trash. You'd think everyone from the Valleys shops at Poundstretcher and has never set foot in Cardiff. Shame millions of people won't boycott these programmes. TV is awful, which is why I only watch films.

Now THAT, is a cracker of a movie. God, need to watch that again soon. Crowe in that is brilliant- I love his character. He's a real bruiser.

He is, but I love how much depth is character has in spite of being a bruiser - I love Kevin Spaceys character as well.
The books are awesome and the pilot for a proposed TV show is decent, with Keither Sutherland as Jack (Kevin Spacey's character) and a few other relatively big actors in it (I think)

Ohh I should say the book is much darker with another couple of story strands, and quite twisted in parts - but has the same film noir 1950s feel to it.

Yeah same here mate, I can't stand TV. Although I am going to admit it, and I'm a little bit embarrassed, but I watched the whole show and liked it. In the opening 10 minutes it was like MTV were portraying the Valleys community as roughians who only shop at poundstretcher, go biffa bin-diving and have never set foot in Cardiff. The bunch of idiots who they picked for the show didn't really do themselves or their people any favours either... The most sensible one is the gay rugby player... I'm going to stay tuned. I wonder if it's similar to the others before it, or do the Welsh people and the location make this one different for me.
Anyway, back on topic, Yes I've seen Memento, but I may have to watch it again. Such a curfuffle.

Definately it is a great book as is Going Nowhere by the same author, great capturing of 50s style mixed with film noir, but warning it is very dark!

I definitely agree Morgannwg! Great, great film, even though Arnie says on 18 lines in the entire film, he delivers them brilliantly nonetheless. Great acting, and script, and overall fantastic film

Re: Last Film Watched Thread
I'm going to be controversial and say I don't really like the Terminator films!
I've got nothing really against them, but they don't really do much for me - I think it could be because I never saw them in the 80s (being too young) and never really liked the expressionless tough guys (aka Dirty Harry or Chuck Norris).
But I will say it's an interesting concept/story.

all great films - i'd add to it Unforgiven (which I love even though I don't usually like cowboys) and just from an acting POV Where Eagles Dare is awesome as well - though of course nowhere near as hard hitting as the above.

Re: Last Film Watched Thread
Just seen two awful films thrown into the mix (Cloverfield and Donnie Darko). Oh dear. That's all I have to say .
Has anybody seen Ronin? Starring Robert De Niro and Jean Reno. It's a good action film full of twists and turns, and set for the most part, in Paris (one of my favourite locations). It is still one of my favourite films. I did have it on DVD, but left it at a student hall in Cardiff and the girl still hasn't returned it, nor would she let me come and get it. I would have aswell because I love the movie. It's been like 6 months or something now...
However, scrolling through Netflix 2 nights ago and what do I find... That film! If anyone has subscribed to Netflix I would suggest they watch it.

Re: Last Film Watched Thread
I gotta say I prefer Donnie Darko to Ronin (sorry Morg).
I watched Donnie Brasco on the weekend - absolutely classic film, so long since I seen it last I was surprised how much I'd forgotten and how great Al Pacino is in it!
Watched a bit of Master and Commander last night (didn't catch it all as the missus needed her Downton Abbey fix ) but it's a good film and got me onto the Patrick O'Brien books.

Phenomenal film. Wouldn't be at all surprised if they do a sequel or even a whole series of films. There are so many questions still left unanswered.
