2012/13 Premier League discussion thread part 2
First topic message reminder :
The discussion(s) continue here guys.
Unbelievable win for the Canaries tonight which see's Man City top for the first time this season, will they hold on.
QPR - still without a win - look doomed and Aston Villa drop into the bottom 3.

Though the reaction to Rodgers is what I thought might turn Managers away. Though the name brings prestige it also brings expectation, which when combined with a pretty ordinary squad bar Suarez and limited resources makes those expectations pretty unrealistic

Dalglish certainly had a hand in these transfers.
Comolli also lost his job.

Paul Lambert has Brendan Rodgers's number. I've said it before and today proves it again
As for the mighty yellows, solid win today, should have won by more but for some heroics from Al-Habsi. Ronnie Stam is the worst player I have seen at Carrow Road this season including Andrew Surman.
And today was the worst all round refereeing performance I have ever seen by Lee Probert. Talk about wanting to be centre of attention

Wigan i know were missing some centre backs but my god if they didnt have Al-Habsi they would be in serious trouble.

Did Brendan Rodgers really say Liverpool could finish 2nd before the game today?

Pure embarrassment that for Liverpool. Good to see QPR win, that should get their season going. Not a single clean sheet today in the Premier League!

Silly from Rodgers. That wasn't motivation, it was a silly, unrealistic target and put pressure on his players. Doubt we'll be hearing him say something like that again.

Dalglish didn't really get the time to turn things around, I don't get why the standards should be different. I think the team has been worse this year as well, less promise in the play, for every step forward, it's two steps backwards.
Before people say that I'm biased towards Dalglish because of his past, I was born after he'd left the club so can only really comment on what saw last year.

Think you're with Rodgers for the long haul. No point sacking him only a part of the way through him installing his ethos into the club.

Liverpool have been conned, Rodgers is an absolute bullshitter who's best attribute is his ability to talk himself into jobs.
May as well have stuck with daglish. It's gonna end in tears yet again.

just seen the liverpool-villa highlights on motd.
again 3 good goals. Benteke is quality, probably his best performance in a villa shirt, that back heel for weimann's goal, was great.
2 good goals himself.
bit lucky the ref didnt give them a penalty, but hey, some you get, some you dont.
like the link up play between the 2.
unbeaten in our last 6 games now.
go to stamford bridge next sunday, gotta be confident we can get something.

Fellaini should be banned for 10 games and fined at least 6 weeks wages for his conduct on the pitch today. He's always been a dirty player in my eyes, for example, when he jumped in 2 footed in the merseyside derby, yet, the liverpool player was sent off. Today:
-Blatant head but
-Elbowing to the face
-Punch to the face
Sheer thugery, no place for that on the football pitch and he needs to be taught a lesson, a harsh one at that.

Moyes said in his post match interview that he'll be dealt with accordingly. I agree that a long ban is in order. Silly boy.

He's a big useless ganch and if the rules were enforced he wouldn't have a career in professional football.

Not really, see what contribution he makes to games when not pushing the rules to and beyond their limits. Very little. A few swingers have flown in for him this year but that doesn't mean he has any talent.

He holds the ball up very well, has excellent technical ability for a man of his size (and ridiculous hair like that). Clearly has an eye for goal, I know he's a dirty player but that doesn't mean he's not talented. Its all opinions though.

He's one of the most talented players I've seen live this season. Got a very good touch and strike on him, and holds the ball up well to bring others into play.
Sure he is physical, and sometimes too physical but a good old physical battle with a CB is what I still like to see in the game

Fellaini's really petulant and that needs to be sorted. Moyes can be counted on to do that. I don't see how the headbutt hurt though; surely his hair was enough padding?
Benteke's phenomenal; no wonder Dazza Bent isn't getting a look-in.

Just says it all he either has good technique or he doesn't, size doesn't come into it.
He's a big lump who catches a few swingers flush.

It was refreshing to see Moyes say what he said, only too often you see managers protest that their player was innocent, but Fellaini deserves the book throwing at him for three red card offences.
Benteke's been looking unplayable at times this season, did it against United, too. I do love a striker that will bully the defenders and Skrtel and Agger looked like rabbits in the headlights yesterday.
Also, just how ominous is it that Rooney and RVP are starting to forge a partnership at this stage? Think it's like 9 goals between them in their last 4/5 games.

I hope Fellaini gets as much as Joey Barton got, but I doubt it.
If the press keep this up I might feel sorry for Chelsea!!

3 game ban is fine. Was hardly a damaging blow.

WHAT??!! He was given triple the amount of time any other manager would have, a substantially more than his poorly treated predecessor, Hodgson.
He contributed and achieved little during his tenure and his past was allowed to gloss over this. The Yanks know about PR and marketing better than most and his useless handling of the Suarez affair was his death knell. If he'd performed better then, then he might have had an extra season of leeway to continue his mediocrity and try to 'turn things around'.

In fairness they're probably the most mediocre and undeserving winners of the CL in 6 years too, so it's hardly surprising.

If he'd performed better then, then he might have had an extra season of leeway to continue his mediocrity and try to 'turn things around'.
He had one full season, in which the main issue was not being able to put the ball in the net. I think we played a lot better last season than we have at al times this season. I believe there was more to Hodgson's dismissal than just the poor football and awful results, and that was because he was appointed manager by Hicks and Gillet, when FSG took over they didn't want him there any more. If you had to watch the rubbish of Hodgson, you'd realise that he wasn't ever going to be a success. People point at the bad signings of Dalglish, but Downing, Adam, Enrique even Carroll are far superior to Konchesky and Poulsen. Hodgson alienated players like Agger and Johnson and was a walking, talking disaster.
If the Yanks knew so much about PR, why did they not step in? I think it's naive to think that Dalglish was the decision maker on the Suarez situation, why would he have been? It was badly handled obviously, but FSG know all about PR and marketing, as you said, so why would they hand it all to Dalglish and why wouldn't they step in. I also feel Dalglish and the whole club were badly let down by Suarez who had professed his innocence throughout the whole trial and afterwards so it was difficult for Dalgish and FSG. Chelsea reacted in a similar way when Terry was charged by standing by him.

Mario Balotelli is taking Manchester City to a tribunal.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20756755
Surely that's got to be the nail in the coffin for his City career, two week's fine for him is nothing, so it's more than that. I think the fine is right (it was for poor discipline last season) and would be disappointed if the Premier League overturn it.
This is a clear and audacious rejection of City and Mancini's authority and I can't imagine they'll be too happy about it. For City's sake, let's hope he's sold in the January.

outsider looking in, but it had to be the transfers that cost KD. its all well and good saying thier better than poulsen and konchesky but they didnt cost 85 mil!
on the suarez issue, he didnt seem in control of the issue at all. the attack on the journalist about the hand shake and general agression towards anyone who asked about it while suarez was in the wrong was clearly not great. chelsea manager on the other hand went very quite and no stupid t-shirts.

PSG? AC Milan? They're both rumoured to want to sign him, he'll probably have to take a pay-cut or City could just pay a portion of his wages while his contract runs out. He's a liability and they need to get rid.
