First topic message reminder :

Unbelievable win for the Canaries tonight which see's Man City top for the first time this season, will they hold on.
QPR - still without a win - look doomed and Aston Villa drop into the bottom 3.

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread part 2
what aload of rubbish- they finished 4th behind 3 quality teams.. the only reason they wernt playing CL was for very obvious reasons..(i dont need to explain- I am very sure you know)
to have a pop at a manager for only finishing 4th- which 99% of the time garantees you CL football with that squad v city , united and arsernal(with RVP) is madness...

Last season Arsenal were not a quality team. Bar RVP they were bang average and Spurs should have finished ahead of them

Arsenal last season were an average side mysti bar RVP who wasn't average.
Proof they were average. In home games they had to win towards the end of the season against Wigan and Norwich they took 1 point. At home to Wigan and Norwich.
Spurs should have finished 3rd last season. And that's the reason Harry got sacked, because they threw it away

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread part 2
arry got sacked because he admitted he would have taken the england job if it was offered on national telly.. Having a dip in form at the end of the season due to the media sensation surronding him was probally the reason totenhams form dipped.. 3rd or 4th is normally immaterial when it comes to the prem - however in this rare case it was.
These things happen.. however Arry did a fine job at Tottenham and him getting the sack was totally unjustifiable from a performance stand point anyway.. I will not agree otherwise

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread part 2
Completely agree with Myst.
9/10 4th is enough for the CL. Harry is a very good manager. Look at where Spurs were when he took over. He took them from the foot of the table to top 10 finish. Then took them to CL football but beating a City side who'd been spending like there's no tomorrow. Chelsea somehow win the CL and costs Spurs their place. Like Myst says, Levy didn't like the fact he came out publicly and said he'd take the England job.
I know one win doesn't mean survival, but its a momentum shifter. A massive win like this will give the players confidence, which is a huge factor in football. They clearly have the team to stay up, and for once they played for one another vs Chelsea and got the result needed. I fancy them to stay up.

Do they clearly have the team to stay up? I hate this thing that because QPR have spent money there players suddenly must be half decent because they really aren't.
Granero and Cesar aside they're really quite crap, hence there league position

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread part 2
I'd say they have a decent team:
Taarabt
Hoillet (Superb last year)
Cisse (Knows where the goal is)
Zamora when he returns from injury
and others, they have a better side imo than Reading/S'oton/Villa/Wigan.

Taarabt is one of the most overrated footballers around. Literally has one good game every 7/8 and when he does apparantly he suddenly becomes a star.
Hoillet I had forgotten about tbh which I think says a lot about his play this year (and maybe why a bigger team didn't snap him up)
Cisse and Zamora are both shadows of there former selves.
I like the likes of Mackie, Derry and Hill who will always show the passion and give 100% for the team despite limited ability. Give me Mackie over Taarabt anyday of the week

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread part 2
I agree, Taarabt whilst I don't think he's overrated because I don't rate him that highly either, doesn't set the world on fire every game has the ability to change a game. Not many of the sides at the bottom have that. Look at the game against Fulham where he single handily won the game for QPR. I know its just one game, but that could be a crucial 3 points at the end of the season. He's got 4 goals and 3 assists this season so not too bad at all.
Hoillet hasn't been in the team much this season which has been surprising. I know Olly you like a team of hard workers, but you also need that little bit of quality to go with it, and whilst Mackie gives it his all you need a bit more. I think Harry got it spot on against Chelsea, blending together hard workers with people who could pull something out of the bag. That's why they beat Chelsea, defended for their lives, threw themselves in front of shots then that one bit of quality by SWP and they win the game.

I wouldnt say QPR have a better side than us.
For a start Bent & Benteke are better than any of QPR/Saints/Reading &Wigan forwards.
Guzan is just as good as any of those keepers.
OK our defence has been poor more so over the festive period.
Our midfield isnt any worse,(than the pther teams mentioned).
Yes there are individual players that will be better than some of our players.
As a team we're better than the other 4 around us, and am 100% confident it will show come may, when we finish above them.

Is everybody seeing the pictures emerging about Mancini and Balotelli?
That player is a disgrace. How anybody can pay him the absurd amount of money he earns is beyond me. Nothing but a petulant child who parades as a footballer everynow and again

Speaking of Villa I caught the back end of an ESPN programme last night showing the Villa players giving out Christmas presents to underprivileged kids. Anyway the broadcast cut to Stephen Ireland who was talking about humility. Yes Stephen Ireland talking about humility.

Apparently Mancini kept going back for more. Disgraceful behaviour from someone who calls himself a "manager".

A lot of fuss about nothing really. Because it's Balotelli it's blown up out of proportion. Brian Clough wouldn't stand a chance these days.

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread part 2
Balotelli is just rubbish anyway, add to that his terrible attitude its incredible he's still there. 22m they paid for him yet I fail to see what he brings to the side. Get rid of him, Aguero/Tevez/Dzecko is more than enough striker power imo.
City don't help themselves as their training ground has that spot where the press can just stand and have a perfect view of the whole training ground, meaning things like this which could be hidden are open for everyone to see.

I'd think Kompany would be this type of character, strikes me as one anyway. Often when its kicking off on the field, he's first in to pull players away and talk to the ref.

I agree, Kompany definitely seems like a good guy but maybe lacks a bit of experience at times. I think that's his only flaw.

Yup, only last couple of seasons he's established himself as the true leader and captain of the club. Maybe a few more years of being captain he will become a proper Viera/Keane type of guy on the pitch. He certainly was last year, one of the main reasons City won the league.

I agree FreekShow. He punched Jemson in the stomach, clipped Keane round the ear, spat on Wassell's hand and took on a couple of fans who came on the pitch at the end of one match (and those are just the incidents during my 80's/90's fan days).
Actually despite all that I reckon he'd do just fine god rest his soul.
As for 'Awey Wedknapp apart from a Teflon like ability when it comes to the brown stuff he offers nothing special in my opinion.

Roy Keane wrote in his autobiography that after giving the ball away in a game against Liverpool he was greeted by a thumping Clough right to the body whilst entering the changing room after the match. Legend is Clough.

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread part 2
RM must be so frustrated, he is one of the very few people in the English game that actually believe in Balotelli and wants him to succeed, yet over and over again he throws it back in his face. Balotelli has the same problem as bentner if he was half as good as he think he is, he'd be better than messi! His attitude stinks and considering the magnitude of his salary you'd expect so much more, but is any club in Europe going to match that salary? I doubt it and for that reason I don't expect him to be going anywhere soon.
My main frustration with Balotelli is that it's obvious he's such a naturally talent player, with so much potential, but IMO to much money, to much fame, to young has set this lad up to fail.

West Ham have made a few decent signings today. Chamkah is a player i actually rate, he likes Torres just needs a hug and a big striker to play upfront with. Playing alongside a Carroll or Carlton Cole could do him good and we could see the talent he does have somewhere.
Joe Cole will be happy to return to west ham. Him and Jarvis on the wing could be pretty good for the hammers.

Strange one Cole as I would imagine he would want the number 10 role that Nolan currently occupies, cant move him as he is there leading scorer. Will Cole be happy sat out on the wing?

No, Jarvis is married.
I think Joe Cole is one of England's more naturally talented players but due to a few factors never really had the career it deserved.

McCOY'S PREMIER LEAGUE DARTS EXPANDED TO TEN PLAYERS AS TRIO EARN DEBUTS
THE McCoy's Premier League Darts will feature TEN players in 2013 under a new format which was announced on Wednesday evening, with Michael van Gerwen, Wes Newton and Robert Thornton to make their debuts in the tournament.
A radical change will see the field expanded from eight players to feature ten stars this year as they compete across 15 nights in the UK and Ireland's biggest arenas.
The ten players will face each other once over the opening nine weeks of the tournament, over the best of 12 legs, before the bottom two players in the league table are relegated following the ninth league night in Brighton.
The remaining eight players will then face each other again over the remaining five league nights before the top four progress to the Play-Offs at The O2 in London on May 16.
Reigning McCoy's Premier League Darts champion Phil Taylor - who won the Ladbrokes World Darts Championship on Tuesday - will head the field of ten players, alongside 2009 winner James Wade and 2011 champion Gary Anderson.
They are joined by established Premier League stars Adrian Lewis, Simon Whitlock and Raymond van Barneveld, while Andy Hamilton retains his place in the tournament following an impressive debut season in 2012.
World Grand Prix champion Michael van Gerwen, who has risen to fourth in the PDC Order of Merit following his run to the World Championship final, will make his McCoy's Premier League Darts debut this season alongside two other new faces, Wes Newton and Robert Thornton.
Newton's status amongst the world's elite was confirmed when he reached September's European Championship final, while Scottish star Thornton claimed the UK Open title in June with a thrilling victory over Taylor in Bolton.
"This new format for the McCoy's Premier League Darts is going to take the tournament to a whole new level," said PDC Chairman Barry Hearn.
"Fans across the UK and Ireland will experience five spectacular matches on each night, and all ten players have earned their spots with their achievements over the last 12 months.
"This new format will mean incredible competition both to avoid relegation and then for Play-Off places before the ninth McCoy's Premier League champion is crowned at The O2 in May."
The McCoy's Premier League Darts, screened live on Sky Sports HD, will begin on Thursday February 7 at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast before travelling to Aberdeen, Bournemouth, Exeter, Nottingham, Manchester, Cardiff, Glasgow and Brighton for the first phase of the event.
The final five league nights will be held in Sheffield, Dublin, Birmingham, Liverpool and Newcastle before the top four players progress to the Play-Offs at The O2 in London on May 16.
