By the way i just knocked up a decent bit of coding and the outcome was very telling- England won
it was simple.. all i did was put two numbers in and the outcome was england won by 17 pts!

bluesman, your attempts to undermine the win are getting silly now. Not even the most ardent NZ supporter is using this virus excuse as much as you.
Just leave it and give praise where it's due.

Its a fact.
If it only lasted 24 hrs it was not norovirus. If you were not projectile vomiting it was not norovirus.
If you had the squits for 24 hrs all you had was a mild tummy upset. fact.

Then the All Blacks only had a mild tummy upset then - argument over! If you bothered to read the article this thread is about then the All Black is quoted as saying it was a 24 hour thing.

Re: All Blacks Struck by Norovirus
If you're English you should have learned by now that to show any excitement over an historical win will be construed as arrogance.
Others are only able tolerate us as long as we are rubbish. The fact that we have managed to something that Wales, Ireland and Scotland have failed to do in living memory must be due to the incapacitation of the All Blacks not the better play of the English on the day.
We should all retire to our familiar role of a nation not comfortable to celebrate it's identity for fear of offending our Celtic neighbours.
I can buy a St Patricks day card from my local Asda but nobody can tell me when St Georges day falls.
Jeez, listen to me...I'm a Liberal would you believe?
Rant over carry on.

The 'argument' wouldn't be over if it was even a 24 hours mild tummy upset, if you consider only 2 things this would impact alone (preperation and dehydration) performance could be effected by 20% (not that I'm claiming it was.
Plus from my limited knowledge of the specific group of Norovirus it could be 24 - 72 hours of mild or excrutiating pain.

Go and enjoy it by all means (and I would be if Wales had done similar) but not on the NOROVIRUS THREAD!!!
If you want to discuss the game without this issue by all means go elsewhere, I have done so without mentioning the virus on any other thread so why come to a thread specifically designed to discuss this issue to just enjoy a win?

A couple of minutes searching found this:
"In most healthy people, acute diarrhea and vomiting usually last eight to twelve hours, and people normally recover in 48 hours. Symptoms may last longer in some people.
Most people feel better within one or two days, with symptoms resolving on their own and no long-term health effects occurring after illness."
I would have thought that fit athletes would fall in to the " eight to twelve hours" senario but I'm no expert

Where did you find that and is it actually refer to Noravirus? The NHS website says that most people make a full recovery within a couple of days (meaning 2?). So you'd expect them all to be fully recovered by Thursday. It certainly would have hit their preparation but I would expect that wouldn't have been that much at this point in the season anyway.
The fact is that wasn't THAT different to most of their games against us in the AI for the 1st 50 minutes. They took it relatively easy in the first half. Should have been 12-6 at half time but for Carter's two misses (not as many as he's missed before against us in one game). Start of the second half they did their usual thing and scored 2 tries relatively easily. The difference to usual and the kick in the balls was the Barritt try. While they were reeling from that Carter missed a tackle on Tuilagi and we got another try. They were on the comeback when Tuilagi got the intercept (much like Carter threw in the Scotland game, what was up with him then?). That was it then. All Blacks tried to force the game and it allowed England to keep the pressure on. Then at the end when there was no way the All Blacks could win they hit back strong. There is NO WAY they could have been playing like that if the virus was the cause of their bad play earlier in the game. If they were knackered and dehydrated they would have been dead on their feet at the end. That's exactly what McCaw said. He said if the virus was still effecting them then you'd expect them to be flagging at the end but they didn't feel like that (and nor did their performance suggest it).

Look, I'm not going to get involved in this faeces throwing contest.... but come on, you guys who are bringing up Wikipedia statements about how normal a person feels after 24 hours of.................... sitting on a toilet seat .
Yes, they're happy, they're over it, they feel like eating again and can watch their favourite TV show. But that's a relativistic point and normality is relativistic...but I'd guess wiki normality has nothing to do with preparing for and playing a top level International rugby game.
Did it affect the players or not? That's for you guys to continue debating, I'm sure. But just let's not go suggesting Mr. Ordinary getting over a 24 hour bug is anything like a busy International Rugby player trying to resume business as normal on the playing field.

Re: All Blacks Struck by Norovirus
I do think it can effect people differently. It was confirmed at my local nursery due to the number of kids taken ill. My son had one episode and as such his motions (so to speak) were analysed by environmental health and confirmed that he had the virus. He was fine and you wouldn't know it. Mrs Bristol caught it off him and was bad.
As a side note we had had a curry the night before and because the wife got ill she has associated the illness with curry so now she won't eat it. So now I suffer as well as she doesn't want it in the house.

and the NZ fans, who've been very decent about it, to be fair (though might not have been the same with AWOP still around of course )
I do think the huge difference between Hansen and McCaw's comments, and some of those on here, are a bit disappointing, but...

It certainly seems that way as the NHS website agrees. Just suggesting you need to say where you get info from if you want to be believed.
Fly, who's mentioned Wiki? I referenced the NHS website and tigerleghorn referenced the equivalent Canadian site. And they are being used to back up what the All Blacks themselves have been saying. AND their physical performance in the game seemed fine. It was their mental side that seemed to be hit and that was only in patches.
I don't think anyone is saying the virus would have no impact at all. But not enough the feel "sympathy" and "compassion" for the All Blacks, which is simply patronizing.

tiger.... you have an itchy finger on a trigger. Good for you.... shoot away. Meanwhile I'll repeat the FACT without giving an opinion on the game - another FACT - that Mr Normal textbook character from medical journal will always feel more back to himself after a bout of illness than a player who has to prepare for and play in a heavy duty rugby game. That's a generalised comment on the specific medical point. Fact.
Now, pull the trigger as many times as you like. I know you're not 'bored' enough to stop chasing down offensive non-statements on the EnglishvAll Blacks game. It makes winning sweeter for you

no its 24 hours and i have had it!
i was totallyt fked- i couldnt travel when i was supposed to go abroad- but it was only 24 hours.. You p!ss out your ahole! its random!
It was not norovirus then. You had a mild tummy upset. Norovirus is both ends for around 3 days.
Really? I've had norovirus then. Absolutely terrible. My a-hole was on fire. I'm glad I didn't have to go play a game of rugby a few days later.
I find it really funny that GG moaned about the South Africans food poisoning NZ for years. Then this happens the eve before losing to England. Brilliant.

I don't think anyone is saying the virus would have no impact at all. But not enough the feel "sympathy" and "compassion" for the All Blacks, which is simply patronizing.
If a team lost yesterday, they lost. So be it. I won't be feeling compassion for anyone. Just debating the specific medical point, Hammer. But the teams that lost yesterday, lost. No side is invincible.

Re: All Blacks Struck by Norovirus
Given the nature of Norovirus and having suffered from it and seen family members in the same household suffer from it you can make a number of assumptions.
It can be pretty nasty at its height.
Not everyone in the same household will catch it.
You recover reasonably quickly.
Now, lets take the 2nd point.
I sincerely doubt the entire squad was hit by it.. I recall reading "some members of the squad etc".
Now if Carter was hit by it and wasn't fit and 100% and Cruden was not affected.... what was Hansen doing playing Carter over Cruden???
If Messam was hit but Vito wasn't then what was Hansen doing playing him too?
Hansen's role is to win, he is the leader and the sole decision maker. He's responsible to the NZRU and the NZ public not individual players.... he has to be honest and brutal at times... that's the job.
So if players played not being fit then thats Hansens fault, its very unlikely there weren't fit players on the bench/who didn't make the 23 etc etc.
Also, if it impacted their preparation... this is the last test in 12 within 5 months... they probably wouldn't do much contact work anyhow and the players know each other in and out... they wouldn't need much work.
So if they were hit by it... I think Hansen has a lot to answer for.

Yes you are. I'm bored now though. shame all but the NZ players and staff seem keen to devalue yesterdays efforts
tiger.... you have an itchy finger on a trigger. Good for you.... shoot away. Crikey, the only way NZ can lose to England is because of illness. The spectre of greyghost and mealy-mouthism is alive and well on 606v2.
