Hyperbole to Despair - and back again.
Sports fans more than any other are capable of swinging from ecstasy to despair in the blink of an eye. This emotional roller coaster plays a large part in how we view our players and teams. Often there is little rationality behind our reactions and we need to take a step back sometimes and remove either the rose tinted specs or the black veil of misery. Some of the hot topics form the last week or so:
Wales - Not as good as many Welsh thought and claimed in April. Not as bad as many fans are now fearing. Poor form or injury in key positions does perhaps suggest a slight lack of depth - but the reaw materials are there.
Scotland - To paraphrase Asbo - your players are not as good as you think, but better than we give them credit for. A decent coach who can hook into the emotions of the players can turn you into a side that punches above it's weight.
Tuilagi and Farrell - Both works in progress. Much better than the criticicm levelled at them this week, not as good as some of the lavish praise now coming their way.
France to win the GS - They had a decent Autumn, but they are not world beaters. Pretty much every team in the 6Ns should believe they can beat them on their day.
Sky TVs next big thing - Not as good as Barnes or whoever claim with all the hype. Not the players fault they are hyped up though - and hey they are probably at least half decent.
I could bang on, but in the current mode of reconciliation we are seeing on v2 it would be good if we can continue to debate (and banter) in an adult way.
Merry Christmas.

Re: Hyperbole to Despair - and back again.
Well England and France are favourites going into the 6N. I'm worried about France away but a little more confident with England and Ireland at home after seemingly having the better of them in recent times. I don't expect much from Scotland and Italy but they're away games that we shouldn't take lightly. Do you know if the fixture list is out yet?
