Have to agree. Especially with Denzel playing the bad guy. Great performance
think the hype might have spoiled it for me, i just thought it was decent not brilliant. he won a oscar for it but could be any performance from denzil playing the angry black man. preferred man on fire than training day
Man On Fire is also an awesome film. I only saw it the once but loved it. Need to watch it again.

Just watched Super. I really enjoyed it, but have to admit you need to be a little sick to rate it. Just watch out for the extreme violence kids!!

I thought it was awful, wasn't funny, or moving, or entertaining.

Take your point Crimey, but I like comics so this take on the ultra violence aspect of it and the what it would really be like if you took it out on the street was appealing to me. Having said that, I could not in all honesty recommend it to anyone!!

Like i said ive never seen Super and it dont look all that great, prefer to see the ones that are linked to the comics as after the film i can go get the comic for example, oh and Kickass is dark maybe not in the films as much but Kickass 2 the comic is a very dark story

You haven't seen it bull and kick ass is not a black comedy.
Watch the film and comment if you wish to continue otherwise it's pointless tbh.
But then at the same time I probably wouldn't recommend it to you because you are clearly a comic book fan. Super rips the genre a bit if truth be told..
My fav comic book style in recent years was scott pilgrim , although kickass was also pretty sweet. Kick ass 2 is coming out isn't it?

Super was great. Didnt know anything about it and accidentally put it on Sky Movies about 6 months back.
Rain Wilson is hilarious in it (as is Kevin Bacon) - thoroughly entertained from start to finsih.
Shut up crime!

I think all of us who like Super need to seek specialist help immediately. But I did enjoy it. The opening credits in bright primary colours was excellent

I don't understand what is supposed to be funny in it, and a lot of the scenes just don't work, I'm thinking of two in particular.

I rewatched the Star Wars original trilogy. Great films. I have a soft spot for ROTJ which I know people are meant to not like as much, but I like the way Luke has stopped being a whiny brat and actually grown some cojones, the rescue from tatouine and the final confrontation with Vader and the emperor are great also; plus I don't hate the Ewoks as much as some.
Having said that some of the dialog can be a bit clunky at times (in all 3 of the films) - a much repeated criticism (justifiably) of the prequels. The Luke and Leia heart-to-heart before Luke goes off to confront his dad (when he reveals to Leia that she's his sister) is particularly cringeworthy.

I also have a soft spot for ROTJ - the opening sequence is about as good as sci-fi gets and the scenes with the speeder bikes are pretty scrotum-wrenching. Can't really agree about the Ewoks though they would be cosy wrapped around my feet. The dialogue is pretty sh1tty but that's just par for the course with sci-fi films, remember the "tears in the rain" speech in Blade Runner?

Over the weekend saw two quite different films.
Masque of the Red Death
Bronson
Enjoyed both in quite contrasting ways.

I enjoyed Bronson. There is a scene when a patient in the institute is dancing to himself in the recreation room in a very disturbing manner. I'm sure that was my mate I've lost touch with who did a little bit of film extra work!!

Saw Sharknado!! Very tongue in cheek with awful science attached to it. The let's have fun with this approach saves the film from being truly dreadful, but over reaches itself at the end. Changed my mind on Tara Reid. Not ageing well.

I actually have high hopes for the last 3 !
Now that the franchise has been sold on , we may get a darker star wars world..

Disney will just own it. They wont get a typical disney screen writer or director.. Look out for a mendes or nolan style for star wars.

Disney have done a fine job with the Marvel films and things like Pirates of the Caribbean. Have faith, Disney rarely miss their target audience and are as successful as they are for a reason

Indeed, the Marvel films are hardly child-like. If Star Wars can turn out somewhere between them and Star Trek, this is going to be ace!

What he did with Star Trek was phenomenal, although I've yet to see Into Darkness.
A lot will depend on the casting I feel, he got it bang on for ST, can he repeat the job with SW? No more Mannequin Skywalkers, please! And a cameo for Harrison Ford is a must!

Look I am a busy man. I can't be expected to read posts properly. Although in my defence it also looks like the Lone Ranger is absolutely tanking so perhaps Disney is not the sure fire bet it used to be.

When I saw the trailer for the Lone Ranger I thought it looked like a Pirates copy, but with trains and desert instead of ships and coast.

Went to see The World's End tonight. There are cameos galore in it (watch out for the "girl in the garden" from SOTD) lots of silly belly laughs as you'd expect and a good cast.
It IS funny but sadly I did not find it as good as the first two from the "Blood & Ice Cream" trilogy and the ending is a bit weird. Lots of late 80s/early 90s music which was my era.
Apparently the Music Supervisor went to my school...
It's worth a look & a laugh but not as good as the hype made it out to be. 7/10

Se7en - horror thriller about a serial killer who bases himself on the 7 deadly sins (hence the title). Bleak and relentless is probably the best way to describe it; Fincher as is his want creates a very black atmosphere and delivers this throughout the film. It is fairly obvious (to me at least) where the film is headed, so I'm not sure what all the talk of a twist is, but it is a very convincing pyschological trip through hell. I could do with a stiff drink after watching it. Kudos to the 3 leads who pull off very convincing performances, Brad Pitt reminding us that he's always been quite a bit more than a pretty face.
It takes itself very very seriously, but is easily brilliant enough to pull this off.
One to watch, but don't expect any laughs. And have the whiskey handy.
8.5/10

I normally get annoyed by the freakishly intelligent one-step-ahead serial killer that seems the norm in crime films but Se7en is a cut above the rest, would even put it ahead of Silence of the Lambs. Fincher does a brilliant job creating the depressing, foreboding atmosphere that allows it to work. Recently watched the first series of The Killing/Forbrydelsen and the ending was a slight rip-off of Se7en's.

Apprently Fincher wrote the script while he was working at Tower Records or something? True success story.

Almost correct, the person who wrote it did work at Tower Records but it wasn't Fincher (he directed it). Does make you wonder about the working conditions at Tower Records though.

Damn, so close! Thanks for the clarification Galted.
Perhaps judging but his subsequent films, he should return to working at Tower Records, and write in his spare time.

First time I've watched it (how on earth did it take me that long?) but agree that comparisons with Silence of the Lambs are merited. Will have to see how it stands up to repeat viewing, but as I said, the ending was not for me all that surprising (although - possible SPOILER - you do sort of view that scene going "surely he's not going to...? oh **** he did"...), so unlike some other films which rely a lot on the "twist" (not looking at the 6th sense at all) I expect it to hold up quite well.
Glad you others like it too, I was a bit worried there may be something wrong with me for liking something quite so disturbing...
