First topic message reminder :

I took the kids to the cinema yesterday to watch Rise of the Guardians , it's good but not great .......but the kids loved it so if your stuck for something to do then it's a good way to keep them entertained for a hour and half or so .

Yep. Completely ridiculous, but once you disengage brain a very enjoyable movie to waste an hour and a half with.

Watched Airplane! again last night. Brilliant, still finding jokes that I've missed the first time through.

Cheers Dizzle, will give it a go, if nothing else it looks like it will be loud through the surround sound so will annoy the missus which is always a plus for a film.

Looks a bit dumb to me. Also way too far fetched. The idea that terrorists could take over one of the most secure buildings in the world is a bit ridiculous.

Looking forward to White House Down though, that looks good.

RIPD - Basically Men in Black but with no black guys. However, people are dressed in black if it's any consolation. Tried and tested formula that somebody decided to redo but forgot the last few pages of the formula if the rushed ending is anything to go by. Still, can't say I was surprised at being underwhelmed but it killed a couple of hours.

And you'll still be finding new gags when you watch for the 20th time. Possibly the funniest film ever made.

Pity you can't say the same about Airplane 2...

Cracking film, better than "Hobo with a shotgun" or "Planet Terror" which is was wildly disappointed with. Liked "Deathproof" but honestly can't abide Tarantino's dialogue heavy stuff these days

just got back from the cinema watching 2 Guns, with Mark Whalberg and Denzel Washington

cracking film, those two are badass throughout the whole film

decent yet not really original plot, but the good acting and hilarious one liners and lines make up for that

very good film, would recommend it

somewhat spoiled by a few overly soppy scenes, but there's enough silliness to make it an enjoyable watch.

Aye, I always laugh at teenagers (especially girls) racing about the film/show- you don't get it!!

Watched most of gone in 60 seconds last night.

I love the story telling in this type of film, very similar to late 80s/early 90s action films.

The story is set within 3 minutes, it takes 30 seconds for cage to have a soul searching convo with his mother;

"I promised you I wouldn't do this again"

"Do what you have to do"

Then 90 minutes of car chases, brilliant.

The only downside being that Nicolas cage is in it

He clearly found a magic lamp or something to make it.

It's not really hate LC, he's just an exceptionally bad actor and deserves a daily bout of ridicule.  I'm quite sure he wouldn't give a toss if he knew what we had to say about him.

Face off is over rated. Con Air is awesome though, but as much due to several top notch performances by other characters as from a good performance from Cage.

I used to really have an issue with cage. He was too american and his face seemed odd.

However now I rate him highly..

Lord of War was the film that turned me from being annoyed by him into liking him!!

The weatherman and kick ass were also decent

They don't make films like Days of Thunder any more. At the time, it was really good. As you say, it hasn't stood the test of time very well. The story is still tops though.

I saw Batteries Not Included the other day, that is one film that has aged appallingly Laugh

Pain and Gain - not what I was expecting given I haven't researched the story the movie is based on, it looked good from the trailers.

Very weird storyline, cast a bit meh and generally let down by the movie as a whole as the concept is there for a great movie. Overall it's probably one to watch but save it for a rainy day as you might be lucky enough to fall asleep as it's definately not goign to be to everyones taste.

Spirited Away is fantastic, watched it a few months ago and was immediately hooked on Studio Ghibli.  Have since watched Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind and Howl's Moving Castle which, while good, didn't quite live up to SA.  Then I watched Grave of the Fireflies and spent the last third bawling my eyes out, absolute masterpiece of a film.

Saw "We're The Millers" last night. Was expected a "the only funny bits were in the trailer" kind of film, but it is genuinely funny pretty much all the way through. The whole "family" is funny, both as a unit and individuals, and the supporting cast are well-chosen and also highly amusing, especially the Fitzgeralds, the other Winnebago-residing family they meet en route.

There's not much I can say that won't give the plot away so I'll just leave you with this: it WILL be making a fine addition to my DVD collection when released. 9/10

Saw an advanced screening of Rush on Tuesday. Brilliant film, Chris Hemmsworth and Daniel Bruhl both put in exceptional performances. The racing scenes are brilliant as well, it was the part of the film that I thought may let it down but no such problem!

There are some injury scenes which are pretty graphic, but they're used in moderation and enhance the story when shown.

Even if you're not an F1 fan, I'd still fully recommend this to anyone!

The Lords of Salem - been a fan of Rob Zombie's films as he's a real horror nut but this one left me cold. His wife is hot but she cannot act and no amount of butt shots is going to distract me from that fact.

Was hoping it wouldn't be as poor as the reviews suggested however, I'm afraid it is a real dip in form.

Didn’t much care for Jack Reacher and I say that as someone who has never read one of the books as they are not really my thing. Just felt the film felt really dated, felt like an 80’s action film. Had it been Seagal in the lead role rather than Cruise would not have felt out of place.
