Does the P4P List Change?
With JMM's win does he go back into the top 3?
Before the weekend he was around 5-6 in many people's ratings. In my and many people's opinion he beat Pac last year and again (without controversy) on the weekend so surely he goes above Pac and therefore must be around 2-3rd?
My top 6 would have to be in no order:
Mayweather
Ward
JMM
Donaire
Martinez
Pac
My question is would you rank JMM above Pac now and where overall would you place JMM?

I believe boxrec have Ezzard Charles third at heavy, if this is indeed the case your analysis of their rankings is not too far wrong.

We need Union to dissect the algorithm used to rank the boxers.

Re: Does the P4P List Change?
It is quite simple really.
If a boxer with a rating of r_a before the fight defeats a boxer b with a rating of r_b before the fight with result of value v and clear decision factor cd, the new ratings r_a_new and r_b_new after a fight are, earn_f is 33.3%:
earn = earn_f * v * (r_b*cd + (r_b-r_a)/(1+2*cd));
r_a_new = r_a + earn
r_b_new = r_b - earn
Additional points (no additional loss points accounted):
opponent in launch state n: v * cd * (25*n - r_a) * max(6*(n+1),min(r_b,25*n)) / (25*n) * max(r_a,18) / (max(r_a,18) + max(r_b,18))
Rating reduction caused by missing opponent quality:
r_new = r_old * (1 - 0.5*(1 - best_opp/r_old/0.5))

Re: Does the P4P List Change?
In a previous life I used to work with oracle db's so it does kinda make sense. Thankfully I am as far removed from that as Jimmy Saville is from decency.
Anyway, I don't agree with p4p lists. Wlad would beat them all so is the best, but that is for another article!

P4P removes weight from ranking criteria, that being said Boxrec is still rubbish!

But weight is a valid factor. Why not remove speed too as this favours the little men.

I see your point, never thought about speed. i still like the idea of P4P but see it's weaknesses.

Re: Does the P4P List Change?
p4p is very difficult, because at the moment pac has a great legacy but has been defeated. the list has to be current therefore mayweather shouldnt be ranked that highly because he hasnt done any to note for a while so jmm should be ranked highly but has been beaten by above, ward has looked invicible at his weight but hasnt the legacy of pac/floyd and wlad has been great but him being so much bigger than most of his opponents and total lack of talent in the division makes it hard to rank him
so for second time today

Re: Does the P4P List Change?
Yea the p4p ratings definately need altering after this weekend because of Manny getting knocked out
In my opinion he has 2 losses in 3 fights, as I rate Bradley as a W but Marquez III as a loss, so he definitely isn't going to be in the top 5
1.) Mayweather
2.) Ward
3.) Marquez
4.) Donaire
5.) Martinez
6.) Wlad
7.) Manny
8.) Bradley
9.) Mares
10.)Broner
Brian Viloria is making a serious case of breaking into that list as he has been on a good run. Segura was in most people's top 10 when he beat him and he made rather easy work of Marquez. Salido is set to face the young Mikey Garica which will help his case as his 2 wins over lopez were brilliant. Gamboa was in my list last year but has had a slow year but I expect him to have a good 2013

Re: Does the P4P List Change?
we all know that mayweather is the most talented, but surely a current p4p list needs to take into account who they have fought recently, otherwise whats the point of doing a current p4p list. this year austin trout has a better record than mayweather!!
