No problem Hibbz.
I put money on the world ending on the 21st. The odds are good, just wondering how I can spend my winnings?

Needs a comprehensive win here then another couple of good fights, Barker and Magee maybe, before stepping up to world level.

Barker's MW and Magee isn't really World Class therefore hardly likely to test Groves. I'd prefer to see him in with someone like Bute

Re: George Groves
not too sure a comprehensive win is on the cards, i mean that would mean a stoppage and we all know johnson is tough and only ever been stopped once, wide UD is the best i can see, decent enough test for groves i reckon, johnson has taken bute to points and froch to a MD recently and still packs a dig

Re: George Groves
Johnson looked very very old in his last fight back in July against an unknown fighter when he gassed after the 6th round and he retired afterwards. Bute didn't lose a round against him and while he started well vs Froch he lost every round after round 8
It's a 12 rounder and not a 10 rounder like Glens last fight where he couldn't keep the pace, so I fell that Groves might be able to get the stoppage. However, Johnson can still punch and Groves still looks vulnerable to me, so if Glen can get him than groves may go down, but I don't think glen is quick enough to land hard shots

Re: George Groves
You don't think that Sheffield in November and February, where Johnson fought Woods with the results of a win and a draw, were cold enough for Johnson, then?
Back in the real world, decision to Groves looks fair enough, but we'll only know what Glen has left when the bell goes. WHU's point about Johnson's stamina is relevant here - George's workrate is one of his best attributes, and it should find Glen out eventually.

Re: George Groves
i hadnt seen johnsens last couple after froch so my info is abit dated, the one who fought froch is a decent test for groves. for me the only way groves wins by stoppage is if the ref jumps in early, and considering its in a british ring theres a good chance it may well happen!

Re: George Groves
I think Johnson has slipped a lot since Froch and that was visible too with the Bute fight
His last fight he was competitive but he couldn't put any attacks together or sustain any attacks and the guy he fought wasn't nearly as good as Groves
The Johnson who fought Froch would have beaten Groves as groves wouldn't have been able to take the shots Carl did and Groves isnt the hardest to land on

The likelihood of him going 50-0-0 isn't exactly a massive odds on favourite though, is it?

Re: George Groves
Johnson being competetive against Froch was more down to Froch putting in one of his worst performances in ages than Johnson having more left at the time. In my mighty opinion.

Sorry, must've read Barker's name in a SMW list somewhere. Think Bute would be too much too quick though for a guy with only 15 or so fights. Always have it in my head that 18 fights is about right to be challenging at world level.

Not sure that's a fair comparison to make, as Groves wouldn't be the Froch that fought Johnson. Groves is good at fighting to a gameplan and understanding his weaknesses - his chin, for example. He know's he's not made of Froch's granite so he would fight a totally different, more elusive, style. Not hanging his chin out like Carl.

Re: George Groves
Should he really be fighting an old man in Johnson.....??
1. Johnson is looking for one last payday in all probability.....
2. He's well past it.
3. It's the same old Warren carp...An ex world champion who beat A back in the day...So it's a great win over a legend should groves win!!!!
The fight is pointless and Groves is just treading water stuck in the wilderness on Boxnation.....
Do yourself a favor Grovesy...dump the clown, and start fighting on channels where more than the usual crowd of a Bognor regis soccer game will see you!!
because Mate your next opponent is Mike mccallum.......He's a former legend...

Re: George Groves
What are Groves' options re promotors?
Frank Maloney? More concerned with David Price
Fat Mick? Pushing Tyson Fury...Nuff sed
Eddie Hearn? He's gonna be more focused on the likes of Froch and Brook for the foreseeable future however, despite Hearns' recent comments that Groves would be at risk of injury facing Froch, I think he offers Groves the brightest future. Hearn is growing on me as the months go by.

I think Hearn is terrific for the British game, pretty much seems as honest and upfront about things as a promoter can get.

His last fight had some ABC Super Middle Interim Silver International Regular belt on the line so it could be either a cameo or he is trying his luck higher up after the loss to Martinez. If thats the case a fight with Groves could be interesting, whether Hearn and Fish Head can agree on terms is another thing though.

No doubt Hearn made some vaguely disparaging remark once about either (a) Wales, (b) the Welsh, or (c) someone who once visited Wales and quite liked it.

Because he promotes Tony Bellew (who is a rival to Nathan Cleverly, who is Welsh, so therefore Steffan hates Bellew) and also because he he promotes Froch (who called out and is sometimes compared to Joe Calzaghe, who is Welsh, so therefore Steffan hates Froch).
