The White Ferns thrashed Australia by 8 wickets with 31 balls to spare in the opening match of the annual Rose Bowl ODI series at the SCG.
After electing to bat first Australia were dismissed for 248, opener Meg Lanning top scoring with 87, and Rachel Candy took 4-35. In reply NZ skipper Suzy Bates (126no) and Amy Satterthwaite (98) added 165 for the second wicket to power the visitors home.

A bit of a surprise that. Bates is still a top player though, and Australia are missing Ellyse Perry which could have made the difference.

Steady on Shelsey Ellyse Perry is a terrific player , but 8 wickets ...31 balls to spare ? There's only one of her...

The 2nd Rose Bowl match has just been completed at N.S.O.
I ran into some heavy traffic coming home today when going past the ground.
http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/current/match/584547.html
Australian Women won by 4 wickets with 20 balls to spare.
The White Ferns batted first with Amy Satterthwaite scoring 109 (119) in a total of 288/6. Plenty of 4s and 6s on the small ground.
The Southern Stars then replied with 289/6 with Meg Lanning 72 (53) and Rachel Haynes 70 (75) who had an opening stand of 131 runs.
So 2 more matches to go with the series tied at 1-1.

Tiny. The first pitch was laid in 1867 and it's probably 135-140m? x 125-130m? wide. The old Bob Stand was relocated there from the SCG in 1983. It's a very picturesque ground and only 2 km from me.
14 x 6s and around 57 x 4s I heard. I think they have a rope too but the girls can hit them onto the the grass bank on the eastern side and into the Member's Stand area to the NW. Blokes can hit them out over the roof onto Miller St... which is quite a busy road.
There's also the famous fig tree which is always in the way. Kids are often sitting on the branches so have to keep an eye out for any balls coming their way.

NZ's batting failed in game 3, all out for 177, and Aus made no race of chasing down 180-odd with Meg Lanning blazing a 50-ball ton, getting there in the 21st over for the lodd of Lanning.

Australia took the Rose Bowl series 3-1 after a 7 run win in the final ODI in Sydney. NZ nearly chased down Australia's 267/9 but ultimately lost too many wickets in the death overs, finishing on 260/8.
