The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Edinburgh
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to Hopetoun House, Edinburgh - where the Management Team for the 2013 British & Irish Lions tour party to Australia was announced.
“This is the next chapter in the 2013 tour story," said tour manager Andy Irvine.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Warren Gatland,
Andy Farrell, Shaun Edwards, Kiwi Pete's Grandfather, Rava, Rodders, Andy Irvine, Graham Rowntree, Dr James Robson,
Paul Stridgeon, Kip Keino, Baggage Master Patrick O’Reilly and Lawyer Max Duthie above the bar.

Afternoon All.
Home in time to watch the first of the local derbies. That pitch at the AP looks like a bog. I'd hate to be doing their laundry later...

Breaker - Quins had sold 70,000 tickets by last Thursday, so it should be around the 80k mark.
Lots of neutral fans in and around London go to this game; hip flasks to the fore
Right, time to slog up to the pub and see who's about.

We did thanks Penfro. I hope yours was good too Shame about the monsoon coming back to the Diff though. I had to wait in a phone box for my lift because the heavens opened as I got to the corner.
Good grief, this looks more like mud wrestling than rugby!

My mother (who's on the phone) is wondering why they're still playing in the muck. Typical mam...worrying about them getting a cold and the state of their "outfits" as she calls it.

They were unlucky, but could have gone for the drop sooner, missed kicks and went to the corner for no reward in the first half and had a few calls go against them. They were their own worst enemy though in my view. It's a pity Dan Evans was subbed, he looked assured even in the conditions. Classic old mud bath! Really enjoyed it.

It's testament to Darren Edwards' coaching ability that Tom Prydie (our best goal kicker) wasn't even in the squad. Absolutely gutted that the Blues are so poor and they've mugged us twice.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Edinburgh
How's Andy Tuilagi doing for the Dragons Rev. Other than Manu the Tuilagi brothers are starting to fade away a bit with Alesana in Japan, Henry getting near retirement and Vavae the 2nd youngest went to France 2/3rd div a few years back I think. Of course if you just looked at Freddie's achievements alone the family had given a fair amount to the Tigers!
I haven't heard much on Andy in the way of International rugby in a while though.

Got to laugh Glas.
King, okay aye. I wouldn't have started him before today, but the conditions meant that choice was correct. He's a lot fitter now and actually keeping the ball in contact (which he wasn't doing last season). Still not the biggest fan, though he took his try well today.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Edinburgh
Cheers Rev, He's looked a half decent player the little I've seen him but just hasn't looked as powerful as Manu/Alesana. If we're honest all of the Tuilagi's in the backs are fairly limited (though Manu's improving in that aspect) but they're just so powerful that they are tough to stop. I guess if you take away a bit of the power then the lack of guile in Andy's play probably gets exposed more than with the other brothers.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Edinburgh
Ospreys would be such a good side if they sorted their consistency out. They're making the Scarlets look like mere Pro12 stalking horses.
The goal for Ulster has to be a Top 2 finish (hopefully 1st) for a home draw in the playoffs and then from that point I'm much more worried about the threats posed by the Os and Leinster.

I'd be happy if the O's finish within the top four considering the schitt start we had this season.

Scarlets being crushed- Ospreys sending out a big message to their playoff rivals.
If we do meet them in the playoffs, it'll be the first game Ulster and Os meet at full strength because we had them away at the start of the season and the home game is on the 2nd weekend of the Six Nations.
They will be a massive banana skin in the playoffs if they don't make the Top 2.

Notch - the last two times the O's have won the P-12, they choked Leinster to rob the title - rather unexpectedly.

Yeah they did earlier Hound - a possible third by The Fat Hairdresser was inconclusive. Tavis Knoyle has just been binned (the second during this match for the Scarlets).

Yeah, thats their MO. Frustrating underperfomances in the early part of the season, senseless losses to less talented sides then they put together a sneaky run together in April/May to snatch it at the death!
Scarlets, on the other hand, have a fair claim to be the best Welsh region this season but if you look at this and the Heineken Cup you have to think no... just the most consistent. I'm sure if I go ahead and say this they'll shut me up at Ravenhill in January (sods law) but the fact they've been found wanting in all the really big games gives the impression they are indeed stalking horses as far as the Pro12 is concerned. Don't want to take away from the progress they've made but I think they are similar to Ulster in being overly flattered by a low quality Pro12 this season.
I'm not scared of playing the Scarlets in a Pro12 semi-final or final. Ospreys? That would make me nervous.
