Alex Brown retires
Couldn't see either of these mentioned so far but...
As our Gloucester brethren predicted, Alex Brown has retired due to injury. At 33 he's had a decent career length but it's always a shame.

Also Lee Byrne has broken a vertebra in his back. Time lengths mentioned are only up till New Year so it doesn't sound too bad.

Re: Alex Brown retires
Unfortunately this comes as no surprise as there have been rumours flying around for some time that his injury was career ending. It is such as shame that a player known for his durability should succumb to injury. He is still the record holder for the most consecutive starts, 87 I seem to recall.
He was as good a lineout technician as England have had in recent years. Unfortunately his lack of bulk counted against him at International level, but he has been a true stalwart at club level. Fortunately this is his testimonial year, so hopefully he'll receive a nice pay packet to help him on his way. He has been coaching the squad at the lineout whilst injured and I wouldn't be surprised if he moves into coaching on a full time basis.
