Love Marmite - a Christmas Question
MARMITE: Gift of the Gods?
My question to the Rugby community at this wonderful holiday season is:
Marmite. Love it or not.
And I don't mean that vial Vegemite cheap imitation.
Under pressure or at times of significant stress, some people go for drugs, some for a smoke, some for booze. If on a remote farm, one goes for a cute sheep.
I go for Marmite on brown toast. I remember a few years ago in 'stan, all I craved was the lovely brown goo on burnt bread. A few years prior, I snuck a half-dozen jars to Iraq, in total violation of all rules (I hid the jars in my medical supplies). Today, with some personal family things, I went straight for it. Not loads, mind, but just two pieces of toast. Satiated and now happy.
We used to each Marmite on toast before playing Rugby, and sometimes it was part of training. What about you????

I would have happily let the world end today if the black nectar had been banned from the face of the earth.
Like you doc, on toast is the only way but with a healthy slice of cheese, please.... Mmmm

I'm with you all the way on the toast as THE comfort food but you can keep the Marmite.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/life-style/7961120/Sanitarium-can-t-confirm-Marmites-return The NZ Marmite factory is still closed due to earthquake damage
(just like rugby, NZ improved on the original British recipe, and coloured it all-black )

Glourious stuff! Much better than thr frankly weedy tasting vegemite.
There must be someone who is indifferent though?! It can't all be love or hate?!

Damn this forum!
Just when I'd satisfied my wife that my diet was back on track, what with Bran Flakes with semi-skimmed milk for breakfast rather than the good ol' bacon and eggs, I have let myself down badly this morning.
I've been banished to my den because I've devoured half a loaf's worth of toast, smothered in butter - real butter - and the wonder that is Marmite, along with a huge lump of extra mature cheddar.
Strangely I don't feel guilty

First introduced to it when the bosses wife bought out sarnies for us at haymaking time and have loved it ever since some 30 years on.

Vegemite for me. But if you Brits hadn't fed so much meat to your vegetarian bovines I'd be putting my hand up for BOVRIL!

Marmite is ok. I neither love nor loathe it.

Not possible Cyril. It's Poopie or bust with Marmite bud.

Re: MARMITE: Gift of the Gods?
I agree Tiger, I can only imagine Cyril is referring to Marmalade, something else I understand people put on toast occasionally. He can't possibly be ambivalent about Marmite!

When you say "Missus" you mean girlfriend right? Wives have a sodium allergy don't they?

If you want to put "a rose on her every cheek"... then Vegemite is the one and only.

I always assumed that the Welsh spread it thickly on their Bread of Heaven.
