The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Amaile
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to Amaile on the eastern-most tip of Upolu Island in Samoa - the first place on Earth to usher in the New Year.
So hop on a hammock and let one of the locals pour a kava down your throat as you are trying to read Tusiata Avia's famous poem: "Wild Dogs Under My Skirt" to the sounds of the Yandell Sister's "Sweet Inspiration" blaring in the background.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of George Pisi, Census Johnston, Paul Williams, Tony Greig, Christopher Martin Jenkins, Mike Nicholls, Babsy and Jeremy Su'a above the bar.

In a way it doesn't matter to Glasgow really as they have no hope of progressing but imagine if they were in first or second place at the moment.
Evening all. I would imagine Saints are not best pleased with the Glasgow situation either.
I'm in the 'Wasps Nest' in Marylebone. Our pals who are going on the Lions tour are trying to sort out baggage allowances for the various flights and have figured out they can only take 23kgs each. The lowest common denominator appears to be Virgin Australia.

Not enough props!
Blimmin 'eck.
Lots of injuries I take it?
Enough props in their squad- not enough in their ERC squad.
It's very frustrating that they have fit front row forwards they have to leave at home. Surely some flexibility should be shown in these matters.

Decent half from the Dragons - 6-16 up. I can see why they struggle though. The first up tackling has been poor.
This is good for Wasps so far.

13-19 now. Bayonne try from a maul. Their subs have perked them up.

Is truck and trailer allowed nowadays? Bayonne do it quite a bit from lineouts. Think they'll win this now by having the stronger bench.

What a match! That had everything. Lucky, your boys did you proud, it was death or glory at the end, they would not compromise and go for the drop goal and a draw. Phillips is a big game player, a special talent. They did tremendously well when Bayonne went for it and could have pinched it. A classic old fashioned ding ding battle and a treat for the neutral. Excellent stuff.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Amaile
Di Canio brings out another classic paragraph:
He was one of the most talented players at West Ham and the fact his development was while Paolo Di Canio was there I am sure helped him.
He will probably say it didn't, but a lot of young players, like Michael Carrick for instance, have said that Paolo Di Canio helped them, so I am happy to think that in their achievements there is a little bit of Paolo Di Canio in them.

So was I, Prop, that's our second-string front row. The back row played well too, Lewis Evans plays his heart out and then at the last minute he goes too high on Mike Phillips and it's all over. Rugby's a cruel game sometimes.
Still, Rob Howley'll be happy with Mike Phillips scoring, although he probably won't have noticed what a great game Jon Evans had again tonight.

His break was sublime, but these players really need to be linking up when they break the line. The support for him was awful, although it didn't help that the ref obstructed Tuilagi!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Amaile
Very unlucky Dragons. They did not get the rub of the green in the first 20 of that game, but it was a spirited performance. They could have nicked it at the end.
Plus there was a fantastic scrum for them, where they drove Bayonne back 6-7m. Study the video of the engagement and timing, Dragons coaches and players.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Amaile
I've already had Coco Pops this morning, Prop, so I'll pass on the full English!
I thought he had a great game once again. As well as his break, he was unlucky to be brought down by the Bayonne fullback (the yellow card) after some great passing out of the tackle. When he kicked, he got good distance and found touch. How many times do we see Welsh scrum halves kicking poorly?
I said on the match thread that if any player's going to suffer selection-wise for playing for the 'wrong' region, it's him.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Amaile
Not at all!
I will have a vent though, while I'm here!
We were expecting a delivery yesterday.
Delivery window 7.30am till 5.30pm!
So we waited ALL DAY and tracked the package on line to see it was loaded on to the van.
5,30pm came and went.
No delivery.
After tea I checked again on line to discover they had called but no one was home so they left a card.
They hadn't.
Ran the number given but that is just their national office and they knew nothing really. Apparently the driver is supposed to take a photo of the house to prove he was here. The guy I spoke to said there was no photo. He said I should ring back at 8 this morning to find out what was going on.
I rang back at 8 to discover that no one knows what is going on, the lady there now says there is a photo but it could be of anywhere and, best of all, they can't talk to ME because it happens to have MrP's name on the thing!!!!!
Why didn't the man tell me that last night and then I could have breifed MrP who was out while all this was going on and so I didn't feel the need to burden him with all the details!!!!!!!!!! They don't see to realise that, if the driver DID actually leave a card yesterday he has been at the wrong house.

That is bad though. I was in the house one Saturday and I heard something drop through the letter box: it was a card from Royal Mail, saying they'd tried to deliver a parcel but no one was in. What a lie! They didn't even knock!
And you could be right, Glas. Gatland (and thus Howley) likes big, physical scrum halves. Never mind how poor they are at the core scrum half skills.

Seeing Les Mis tonight....can't blydi wait, hope it lives up to the hype!
Anyone seen the flashmob in Newport for it too?! They were brave seeing as it was Newport!
Playing Cardiff Met 1sts/2nds tomorrow so should be fun.
The problem he has Lucky is that if he moves where will he go? Bearman tried it and failed to get Welsh recognition and it's pointless moving to and English club which is apparently 'too far' away!

I hope he doesn't move at all, Prop. Gatland had to relent and select Lydiate and Faletau in the end after a season or so of ignoring them and going with the likes of Jonathan Thomas, so he just needs to keep plugging away. He's still young and he's not the finished article yet anyway, I suppose.

That's because I'm much to well brought up to post the emoticon that would be most appropriate!
On the phone with them again just now. Got poor MrP to aurthorise them speaking to me before he rushed out on the next school run. The woman said that she can get the them to redeliver the thing but she can't tell me anything else about it as I could be "anybody". I pointed out that the man she had just been talking to could have been anybody too. She didn't seem to "get" that!
They say I can't speak to the local depot because that's not what they do. I have to call the company we ordered from, they have to call the national office who then have to call the local office so I can give directions to my house!!!!
I'm sure there is an easier way if only I could think what it could be!!!!!

I have a similar situation at work, MrsP. I call the Newport office of one of our suppliers and if they don't answer almost straight away, the call gets diverted to a national call centre. They can't make any decisions there themselves and have to call the Newport office, then get back to me.
Another of our suppliers won't let me speak to their Newport office at all, even though it's just the other side of the river from here.

I had a delivery scheduled for a Saturday afternoon once, and made the mistake of ducking out in the morning for brunch. Got home at 12.10, and there was a card with 12.05 written on it ... and I can't even blame the delivery company mutter mutter

I do sympathise MrsP.
Back when I worked for a call centre I had those types of phone calls daily.
These big companies just pay for the cheapest courier service available and they spend more time dealing with complaints than they would have if they booked a proper service in first place.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Amaile
I can understand if things went wrong yesterday. Stuff happens. It's the lack of sense shown to try to prevent a recurrence today that really annoy me. One phone call could avert the same issues as yesterday. Happy Courier because he can find our house and Happy Customer because we get our delivery.
Problem solved.
But to be told,
"We don't do that."
Just makes me mad!
