1. The Fog 2005.............My my this was a ghastly piece of work.......No atmosphere....no likeable characters..everything that was bad was in this movie........
2. H2 ............Halloween 2 was a decent sequel...also had fitty Jamie lee Curtis in it......atmosphere..decent enough characters and a good bogeyman......As for H2!!!!! A lumbering bogeyman......chasing slappers and wallies..A stupid woman on a white horse... and a bogeyman who takes his mask off to reveal a hobo with a beard!!! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarh!!!!
3. The Omen............Basically the same film as the original shot for shot!!......without the acting and the atmosphere........garbage.....
4. Black christmas.............An eerie classic..turned into a routine slasher......................
5. Superman returns.............Just left me cold...................

The Fog in 05 was rubbish!
Superman Returns wasn't actually a remake, it was a sequel to Superman 2. It was still pretty poor though.
I thought The Amityville Horror remake was pants as was Gus Van Sants remake of Psycho. That was awful!

The Wickerman remake was so bad it was funny.
Italian Job (why bother doing it and changing everything that made the original good)
Alfie (Caine or Law? Hmmm tricky. Not.)
Oh, and Get Carter.
Basically don't remake Michael Caine films.

Re: Your worst REMAKES ?????
I generally hate remakes and there have been some stinkers including all of those mentioned above. A special mention for the remake of Psycho which was an exercise in utterly pointless film-making by a director who should know better.
Can't stand the Hollywood habit of taking non-English speaking films and remaking it in English. I watched The Raid recently and it was brilliant but Hollywood is going to remake it and it will be half the film that the original was. Wouldn't it be cheaper for the studios to buy the rights to these films and then just use their considerable resources to market them to the English speaking masses?

The wife and I watched it in the cinema with about 5 other people. Possibly the worst film I've seen at the cinema, along with Suburban Commando.

Re: Your worst REMAKES ?????
The pink panther is a good call......Martin was definitely no Sellers......
Sellars didn't make Clouseau funny by being stupid..he made him funny because he didn't realise he was stupid and had a giant ego....
Martin didn't get the character at all.....
Which in fairness shows the genius of Sellars.......who was wonderful in "The Magic Christian" and "Being there"............should have got the Oscar for that!!
A true original.............
Elm street is a good shout..........luckily I've not seen Psycho...

Even if it was, they apparently believe there's more money in Americanized re-makes. Which isn't to say they're always bad; Algiers was that rare case of a H'wood remake equal to the French original Pépé le Moko. The producers of the former had the rare (for Hollywood) good sense to cast Charles Boyer in Jean Gabin's role. The two movies together seem to be a case of cinematic doppelgängeren, or perhaps distant-but-identical cousins.

Re: Your worst REMAKES ?????
John Huston's The Maltese Falcon was a second remake within a ten-year period. Roy del Ruth's 1931 original had Ricardo Cortez and Bebe Daniels; it was made when sound was just coming in and it shows - painfully. Plus, they put in a happy ending(!)
Wiliam Dieterle's Satan Met a Lady (1936) had Warren William and Bette Davis. The characters' names were changed but it was no better than the original.

Re: Your worst REMAKES ?????
I particularly dislike the way American cinema distorts history to suit themselves and make it look like it was them that did it.
U-571 being a prime example.
In terms of actual re-makes. Rear Window, re-done purely for the benefit of Christopher Reeve was pointless.

Every war film distorts history..........Artistic licence..
The original rear window was garbage as well...one of Hitchcock's lesser efforts..
Remade "suspicion" too.....that was kack..

Wash your mouth out, Truss. Rear Window is a fantastic film and one of Hitchcock's most enjoyable. The remake with Christopher Reeve was utterly pointless and borderline inappropriate (why not just go whole hog and remake it with Steven Hawking?).
Steve Guttenberg starred in a rubbish film in the 80's called Bedroom Window which was a blatant rip-off of Rear Window.

Clash of the Titans (definitely at number 1!)
The Italian Job
Get Carter
The Jackal (remake of day of the jackal, which was also not that good)
Avatar (A remake of the Pocahontas cartoon)
Later this year I have a feeling I will be adding RoboCop to the list.

Re: Your worst REMAKES ?????
I heard Total Recall was a lot truer to the books than the Arnie version.
Personally I enjoyed it, not great but not half as bad as some remakes or even just new ideas producers have these days.

Re: Your worst REMAKES ?????
The Thing was a prequel Truss but it stole the name of the original and it was just a complete rip off of it. Dreadful.
Hampo you are correct with it being closer to the book especially with regards to the main character. Colin Farrell is alot closer to the guy in the book as opposed to Arnie but it just didn't need to be re-made.
In all honesty I tend to avoid anything Kate Beckinsale signs up for because she's absolute rubbish. Looks and that is all she has.
